First time a RRS product has disappointed me
Ive been a fan of RRS products for years. I use their ball heads, and their tripod brackets are on all my cameras and telephoto lenses. I like to keep L-plates permanently mounted on my cameras so I can quickly switch from landscape to portrait mode. This RRS L-plate for the Sony A7R III does not work well for my needs. In particular, the L-component does not provide sufficient clearance to access the Micro-USB port on the camera. First, with th... Show More

Several flies in this ointment
I've been using RRS gear for over ten years, and always been happy with the quality, design and implementation of the tripod heads and Arca-style plates. When I finally bit the bullet on the 5DS R, I first tried the L-plate for the OEM battery grip (BG-E11). Solid, well-machined, and perfect fit. But one small deal-breaker, for me. In the field, it's bulky enough to destroy the ergonomics of the battery grip, pushing your hand away from the contr... Show More

RRS L set for 5DS R camera body
My other base plates were like a universal plate that fits several cameras which makes them cheaper than the RRS plates. Some were proprietary in design, not Arca. if the plate came loose then it would either shift on the base or turn and not be parallel with the base of the camera. I always worried about the screw coming loose and was always taking ahold of the base to see if it came loose. The RSS plates are machined for the camera body that wi... Show More

Really Right L Bracket 4 Me
I have been using another type of Landscape-Portrait orientation rotating bracket on my tripod. But the design of that bracket results in the remote release cord becoming wedged and crimped while changing camera orientation from Landscape orientation to Portrait orientation. I was able to switch my camera into Portrait orientation position but with some degree of difficulty. So I decided to switch to the RRS L-Bracket which nescessitated adapting... Show More

Great bracket.
I ordered this bracket after few months of deliberating between this one and Arca Swiss Universal L bracket. Decided to go with RRS version for following reasons: - much longer rail on "vertical" (side) part of the bracket. Allows much better "centering" of the camera over the axis of the tripod head. Better side protection of the camera body and grip. - dedicated design following the contours of the body/grip. - instant access to grip batter ... Show More

Great base plate, overpriced L-bracket module
I bought this L-plate primarily for the base plate, which I intend to leave installed on my X-T2 semi-permanently for both tripod mounting and attaching a Peak Designs Slide anchor. The base plate is wonderful, adding just a little height but no significant weight to the camera which makes it more comfortable to hold with larger hands. It's well finished and follows the contour of the camera beautifully, and the strap attachment bar is perfectly ... Show More

Solid build, but...
The L-bracket from RRS is very well-built, however, the L-bracket surprisingly difficult to remove for the first time, even when not mounted on the camera! Moreover, there's no longer a magnetically attached hex key. Not sure about the design decision (or the comprise they need to make) there by RRS, I previously purchased L-bracket for 1D-X which did not have this issue, although it takes a hex key to remove but the key is nicely attached magnet... RRS Best Quality Out There
Really Right Stuff knows how to make great equipment and this L Plate is no exception. Terrific attention to detail and the quality is top of the line. The bracket does require an allen wrench to install and remove though but the great new feature with the 5D Mk IV L Plate vs the 5D Mk III L Plate is that the Mk IV L Plate has an allen key mounted right to the L Plate. Held in place with a tiny magnet it stows on the bottom of the L Plate. I woul... Show More

Arrived broken-TWICE!!
How can you break a RRS base plate? By adding a semi-useless feature. RRS makes great stuff (my wallet knows), but adding little magnets to hold an Allen wrench was not a wise move. It just adds something that can actually break. I bought the EM-1.2 plate and it arrived with one of the two little magnets having fallen out of it's socket. Oops. It's so small it will get lost in about 15 seconds. Makes storing the enclosed Allen wrench by one magn... Show More

Extremely solid, perfect fit, productivity booster
I'm still using a Mefoto tripod and slowly getting some RRS gear. This item fits like a glove and has already made moving between portrait and landscape orientation so much easier. When traveling though (without a tripod), I will remove it to lessen some weight. I like to keep the camera strap affixed to the camera and it was easy to do. I chose to not extend the L-bracket, so it fits snuggly against the camera's side. No problems in accessing... Show More

Excellent Choice for BlackRapid Users
I love this plate! It fits my 1Dx2 like a glove, can not twist due to the design, has built-in allen wrench storage and best of all, accepts QD push-button swivels. This is a perfect solution to anyone who uses a BlackRapid strap but wants to leave their base plate on all the time. The Really Right Stuff QD Strap Swivel (D-Loop) is a much more substantial point of attachment than BlackRapids FastenR-T1 bolt with D-Ring and less than half the pri... Show More

L- Bracket an Equipment Must
I have had L Brackets for every camera body I have owned since 2000 either by RRS or Kirk. The L bracket will maintain your camera centered on either a Ball Head or a Geared Head rather than off center when switching orientation directly on the head. I have found it faster to switch orientation using the L-Bracket than trying to rotate the heads. I evaluate each brand's features before purchasing and have owned both brands over the years. I perso... Show More

Great idea with major flaw
Thought about this for some time. Balancing in this way is much much easier for a vertical mounted camera, but there is a major flaw for mounting this on a Video Fluid Head - there is no mount or screw thread on the bottom to mount a plate perpendicular to this to go into a video fluid head. I had to improvise to make it work. If you want to attach the RRS L Plate to a Video Fluid Head, you'll need to attach the Video Fluid Head plate to the bot... Show More

Great with the A7 III
I had a couple of problems, but they were solved by reading the instruction sheet that comes in the box. The battery door must be removed from the camera and installed on the base plate. There is a little slider on the inside of the door to release it from the camera. Once the door is installed on the bracket, it does not spring open as it does when connected directly to the camera body. There is a very nice magnetized slot for the 5/32 hex wrenc... Show More

Solid L plate but installation a bit fiddly
I upgraded from a 5D3 to 5D4 and like others would have preferred RRS to retain the one piece L Plate design rather than go down the modular route as I shoot stills and dont have any need for the flexibility offered by the modular approach. Indeed, I seriously contemplated going with another brand but I have RRS ball heads and pano kit and prefer to keep it all in house. I could not attach the strap boss to the camera strap connectors the way R... Show More

You NEED this gear.
If you have this particular combination of body and grip, you are aware that it is neither small, nor LIGHT. Add a decent-sized lens and you have a moderately-to-outright heavy package for the average ball head tripod to contend with. I tried the flop-over method for portrait mode shots for the first few months I had my new D750, and then started looking for a better way. This bracket is IT. This gear screams quality from the first, and backs it ... Show More

Thank you Really Right Stuff!
Really Right Stuff has done it again. Another well thought out and perfectly fitting plate. The allen wrench is held in place by a magnet built inside of the plate. This plate was a must for me because I don't take my camera anywhere without a hand strap and I needed the extra strap attachment that this plate offers. These plates are also designed with the use of QD slings in mind. Check out the Magpul MS4 slings on Really Right Stuff's website (... Show More

Worth every penny and MORE (I am a very frugal person)
I usually do not write reviews. But I was very satisfied with this product. Before the purchase- Why should I pay 250!!! dollars for an L-plate? There are other products out there for far less! After the purchase- It all makes sense now. This plate is machined to extreme precision. One of the biggest concerns I had before I purchased this product was the possibility of scratches (plate rubbing against the body). This plate is designed so that i... Show More

Pricey but worth it
Really Right Stuff in general is on the high side. However, it's solid and works. The X1D is so portable that you want to walk around with it sans sticks. But, get it on a solid tripod and drop that ISO for razor sharp pictures makes a visible different. This L-Plate does a great job of securing the camera. I read another review here where the reviewer said this L-Plate was metal and would scratch the metal Hasselblad X1D so he never tried it but... Show More

Great piece of gear
Beautifully designed and executed piece of gear (I'm an aerospace Mfg. Engineer, VERY picky about stuff). Machining, anodizing, finishing, and fitup to the camera are all excellent. Design is well thought-out. A really nice feature is the strap attachment fitting, which interfaces with the camera's strap attachment via 2 small prongs. Use care when assembling this item to the camera and tightening the screw - be sure everything has slipped into p... Show More

Very good protection and Mounting Flexibility
I was pleased with using the RRS L-Bracket for the Sony A7RII. It provides protection for the camera, adds an extension to the body and a bit of weight which improves the balance of the camera with longer and heavier lens such as the 2470 GM. I bought the L bracket for the A9 with the same goals in mind. It is even more refined. The vertical portion can be easily adjusted and removed. It retains the idea of moving the battery door to the plate wh... Show More

Nice product
Just got a Sony A7RIII from B&H and needed to update my L bracket. I opted to purchase the RRS one even though very pricey. It fit the camera very well. It added additional "holding area" and is very easy to use with the Sirui Arca-Swiss ballhead. I keep on the camera all the time unless I am intending to primarily handhold when I add the Sony vertical grip. There have been complaints about the need to remove the battery door but I don't mind tha... Show More

Adds to camera handling
As expected with any RRS product, this L bracket fits the camera perfectly. It takes a little manipulation to get the side part all lined up. I ended up removing the camera strap support to get it positioned correctly then putting it back on. What I was not expecting was how the side bracket really adds to being able to hold the camera. On the right side of the 5D mkiv you have the hand grip to hold but on the left of the camera your thumb goes o... Show More

Expensive, but worth it.
If you use tripods regularly, just buy this! I waited far too long and struggled with poor quality plates that would regularly come loose. And I dealt with flopping my expensive camera and lens over to get portrait shots (not too often). I was concerned about needing to use a tool with this L-plate, but I have not removed it since I put it on. It is just as tight as when installed--months later.
