My Favorite Lens

Aug 30, 2014

I bought this lens from B & H to replace my kit lens on my Pentax K30. I use this lens primarily for landscapes and is very sharp and well built lens with using the new composite materials. This will be my main lens. Prompt delivery and great service from B & H.

A Perfect Workhorse Lens.

Aug 18, 2014

The Sigma 17-70 is one outstanding lens. My primary use for the 17-70 is for underwater use used in freshwater situations as well as salt water. This has become my workhorse lens because of the great image quality, close focal length of 8.5 inches & it's Macro capabilities. This Sigma lens fills a need where a wide angle lens is just to large of a total viewing area for smaller subjects found and the macro capabilities are outstanding as well. Th... Show More

Love this lens!

Aug 11, 2014

I use this product for nature & landscapes and portraits. It's super versatile and has that macro feature which I love. not-to-mention, it's an F2.8 lens so it's quick and great in low light conditions.

Amazing Upgrade

Jul 31, 2014

I purchased this lens to upgrade from my D3200s kit lens. While the Nikon 15-55 is an Ok starting point this blows away expectations. At work I use the Tamron 12-50 with the constant 2.8 and honestly this lens is leagues sharper, with a much more accurate and faster auto focus.I feel like this lens would be very versatile, well versed for portraits and events. The decently fast aperture, impressive build quality and impressive image quality ensure this lens fights above it's weight class.

As nice as advertised and reviewed

Jul 30, 2014

As a pentax owner, I use this together with my 60-250 mm Pentax lens. This one is the walk around for landscapes, etc. I love my 60-250 and am tempted to use it as my walk around, but sometimes I need the wider angle and this lens delivers nicely so far. I have only had it a couple of weeks so don't feel qualified to say too much more right now. It certainly seems to be as good as other positive reviewers have said it is.

17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM Lens

Jul 19, 2014

Solid construction with an elegant look. Probably not a professional quality lens, but its not far off (being fixed at 2.8 throughout the zoom range would be awesome). Super quiet, super quick focusing. The business end is very large at 72mm, it kind of throws you off at first, but you will get used to it. I've only had it for about a month, but its been a great replacement for my 18-55 kit lens and I don't see a need for anything else in this fo... Show More

Sigma 17-70 f2.8 C - Nice Lens

Jun 25, 2014

Great All Purpose lens (Indoor and Outside). Have a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 which I use for shooting Friday Night Football games. Love it. *Note: just be careful when purchasing. There are several different versions (more improved with each new release). Make sure you know which version you are buying.

I would buy this product again

Jun 20, 2014

I have a 70-200mm canon 2.8 lens, and this lens is a great partner. I have used this lens a couple of time since I bought the lens, and I am very please with the quality. I used it at night with some flowers and also use it at car show and I am please with the lens. Great, quality and clarity.

Better than what I expected

Jun 14, 2014

A week back I got this lens and carriedout some low light and night shots both outdoor/ indoor with my Nikon D7000; the performance was more than expected. However, when it comes to portrait I would suggest to go for big aperture like f/1.8 and offcourse that would cost more. OS and HSM is really outstanding though I experienced AF stuck at some stage but later it worked fine. Overall a best lens for entry or enthusiast level.

Very good lens!

Jun 13, 2014

The macro capability of that lens is quite good. If you need a short focus distance, wide angle and a standard zoom range, this lens have it all. I did not find a nikon lens with all that. Previous version of that lens were not very durable under rough condition (humidity, dirt, impact). I hope this one would be better.

Very Goodbut Not a Keeper

Jun 11, 2014

For the price range and the catagory, this is a well considered lens. It is a bit faster than a mid-range kit lens and the build quality is on a high level. The only problem, especially for Nikon users is the availability of the 18-105 VR lens. At the same focal lengths and f stops, the Nikon either matches, or betters this Sigma and has the extra 50mm (in DX terms) reach which makes it much more versatile and useful as an all-purpose mid-range l... Love it so far.

May 30, 2014

I've had this a relatively short time, but it has already become my default lens. Very sharp, a little heavy, but no big deal. The only thing that bothers me significantly is the hassle involved going to manual focus. I don't know what the proper term is, but with my Pentax lenses I can do a quick auto focus then go to the focus ring without changing anything and fine tune the focus... I miss that.

Helps me take nice product photos of merchandise in my shop. The zoom feature makes it easier to get-in close to my subject with a minimum of physical contortion. I'm very happy with this purchase

Fabulous lens

May 29, 2014

A great value. I shoot landscape a lot and this lens produces very little lens distortion at the wide angle. It's fast aperture allows me to get the backgroud blur that I desire in portraits and the macro is banging. I get all of this versatility in one high quality lens and at a great price. I love it.

Excellent crop censor lens!

May 28, 2014

I shoot a lot of sweet 16's, barmitzvahs and other indoor events. I need a versatile, lens that focuses quickly in low-light and plays well with a flash. I was working with a 24-70 2.8 on my 5D classic but when I bought a 7D, I needed something wider. This lens is perfect! Every once-in-a-while I throw on the old 24-70, but I prefer this lens. It is sharp, fast and good. This really is the perfect mid-range lens for a crop sensor camera!

Better Than Expected

May 27, 2014

User reviews of the Sigma 17-70 suggested that the lens is lacking in image quanlity at its widest setting, but I have found little to fault at any focal length. Focus is reasonably fast (and silent), generally accurate, and sharpness is good. I have not fully wrung out the lens yet so I am allowing 4 stars (4 1/2 would be better, but I can't do that). The alleged macro capability is not what one might expect: A close working distance does not tr... Show More

Great Lense

May 23, 2014

I purchased the lense for underwater use, as Nikon has nothing in this range! It is tack sharp at both ends of zoom ,and gives me great flexibility on a dive. I looked at the previous version of this lense for years, but this newer version with macro capability is well worth it !

I bought this lens for when I am walking around with my family and landscapes. I also don't want to carry my heavy 24-70 f2.8 all the time. The auto-focus is fast & accurate. It's very sharp across most of its range. My only con it lens flare when shoot into the sun.

What a lens. A dream for novice and spro

May 21, 2014

I did not buy from B&H only because its available for a lot less (Sorry B&H Welcome to America) and 3 days delivery . Bought direct from Japan. This lens is awesome in low light, great with video, solid and super sharp picture. I am a novice and compared to my kit lens this is a big improvement. The lens cap is garbage and falls off, that is the only thing I can find wrong with this lens.

Light, Smooth, Sharp and its not Beer

Apr 15, 2014

Unless you opt for a very heavy lens, this is the best buy and the friendliest lens in this focal length range. Even the various guide numbers have been correctly placed to make use ergonomically pleasant. The action is smooth and firm enough so it doesn't swing by the intended setting. It performs well in low light and the results have been tack sharp.

I had been looking at this lens and wanting to get one for a while and finally went and bought it. So happy I did. Went to a garden show over the weekend and got some really beautiful shots. Tack sharp images, fast autofocus, good OS. Took some shots of my grandson in low light situation and was very pleased with results since this is one of the resons I purchased this lens. Would definately recommend this as a step up from a kit lens.

Using this on my Nikon D7100. I must say I shot a wedding with it. I got fantastic results! also used it for video. its not made for fast/quiet autofocus in video (no swm) but if shoots great video as well. for the price its so worth it. Fast autofocus for pics. you can spend 900-1300 $ on a lens but the difference is not worth that extra 500-700$+ in my opinion. you get your bang for your buck
