Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM Contemporary Lens for Nikon F

Ideal for low lighting shootingn and great close up lens.
I am a wedding photographer using Nikon D7000 with Nikon 18-105mm F3.5-5.6 lens for the past 3 years. However, I had to rent this lens at local camera rental shop for few weeks while my Nikon lens was in service to repair focusing issues (normal wear and tear). After I fell in love with a rental lens, I have purchased a new Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4 Macro lens using as a prime lens. I like this F2.8 lens especially shooting bride and groom under the l... Sigma 17-70 HSM Lens
Great product which takes really great pictures. Has a nice chunky feel to it producing very clear close up pictures and with a great zoom capability. Will probably be the lens I will use as a standard and certainly beats my Pentax 200 zoom out of sight. Probably a little bit pricey but I feel I am getting a quality product.

A great multi-purpose lens
I bought this lens for a few reasons. One, I have been extremely pleased with my purchase of the Sigma 150-600. Two, I needed to upgrade my kit lens focal void, as I sold back my old gear. Three, I have a couple of cameras and when I setup for night shots or star trails, have two wide angle, fast aperture lenses is nice. After using this lens for a little over a month, I have come back with pleasing results to show. This lens has more than paid f... Show More

My Walk About Lense
I have used mine for over a year on first a Canon XTi, and now a T5i (both crop sensors). I bought it to replace a Canon 18-85S when it no longer focused with AF on. I use it as my everyday walk about lens. It was durable enough to withstand an impact that shattered the protective UV filter and crack my XTi camera body. If something unexpected happens to this one, I will probably buy another. Note: I usually set my exposure at 1/3 underexposed.

Good Surprise
I bought this lens for my 60D and to compliment Canon L, & Tamron SP... 70-300mm lens. I have a Canon 24-105mm L and thought this a good lens to use when not taking the Canon out. But to my surprise when comparing these 2 lens, I discovered my Canon L was soft in comparison, the Sigma 17-70mm also had better color, contrast, and less flair. That was hard for me to accept at 1st, that this inexpensive Sigma was out performing or matching my Canon ... Show More

Excellent performance, quality consruction and low cost.
I purchased this lens to shoot wildlife (squirrels, birds, etc.) in a small city garden to produce calanders, note cards and post cards. The zoom range is perfect for the confined apace. For a lens in this price range, the construction is solid, the zoom is well dampened and image quality is very good across the range and excellent between f5.6 and f11. I have only had this lens for a month or so but at this point it is far better than the Pentax ... Show More

Great carry around lens
This is a great carry around lens. I have had it on my Canon 70D since I received it. It's light weight and produces sharp photos. Love it for portraits too! I haven't found anything yet that I don't like about this lens.

One Of My Favorite Lenses
I love this lens. I got it for indoor family gatherings and as a walk-around lens. It fulfills both needs quite nicely. It has a really nice closeup feature. Takes great closeup flower picture. They'll have to pry this one from my cold, dead hands. My only minor complaint is that I wish it had full time manual focusing. Then I'd give it 5 stars. If I could, I'd give it 4.5 stars right now but that's not possible.

Great lens for the money!
Has more range of zoom than a straight f/2.8 lens but costs much less! All photos I have taken are crisp and sharp! Much better than the normal kit lens. Coupled with a 70-200mm zoom gives a great range for most of my photography. This has been a very wise decision to purchase!

From There To Near
I use this lens as an all purpose, walk around lens. It is a relatively light lens yet performs a macro function well and the same goes for the wide angle, medium and portrait lengths. I bought this lens for these things and the only complaint I can think of is blaming it for not being something I didn't ask for when I made the purchase, such as a longer lens.

Versatile Utility Player
Extremely versatile lens that takes the place of kit lenses. I found this lens to be very sharp. The macro capabilities work well. The reach of the zoom and the aperture range work exceedingly well for various forms of photography. This really is a great all-around lens. Very pleased with this purchase.

Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 Macro OS HSM Lens
I bought this lens as an upgrade from the Nikon 18-55mm kit lens, for a Nikon D5200. The auto-focus is fast, and nearly silent. This lens has some barrel distortion, which is greatest at 17mm, and decreases as you zoom out, but it is easily corrected in Lightroom, so shouldn't be an issue. I haven't compared the old Nikon lens it replaced (18-55mm f/3.5) with an identical photo situation, but my impression so far is that it is a sharper lens. It ... Show More

Excellent wedding lens
This is the third version of this lens I have purchased to use when photographing weddings. A great lens in low light, especially with optical stabilization. Good zoom range for groups and general candids. And this lens is a full stop faster than the Canon version.

An excellent lens
Before buying this Sigma lens I used normally as every day use a Tamron 18-270. Now I prefer the Sigma 17-70. I like the sharpness on pictures and the macro photos.

Well-built, good looking, zoom and auto focus very smooth. Love that it is made in Japan. A big improvement over the kit lens on my Kikon.

Not Good Wide Open
I shoot a lot of sports and school events. Doing group shots and trying to keep mom and her phone camera out of the frame was always an issue, so when my old 28-70/2.8 was stolen I replaced it with this lens. I felt that the extra zoom range on the wide end would more than compensate for losing one stop of light on the long end. Unfortunately, what I found I was actually giving up was 2-3 stops across the whole zoom range because this lens is jus... Show More

For Canon T3i
It's a replacement for the EF-S 18-55 kit lens that came with my camera 7 years ago. I received it 2 days before my son's 8th Grade Graduation. I ordered it with a Hoya 72mm UV filter. I shot about 120 photos. The photos are real sharp indoors and outdoors. I got about 4 photos that showed vignetting, it may be due to the Flash or it may also be from the UV filter. You may have to remove the lens hood on certain shots depending on the angle the l... Show More

Dont regret buying this lens!
So, I was looking for a 2.8 lens and had a photographer friend tell me about this Sigma 17-70. I was iffy about buying a non Canon lens (yes, I am THAT guy) but I couldnt beat the price. My thought process was, that I could buy this for the good price and if I liked it I would sell it and get something similar from Canon. Well, after the first weekend of shooting with it I was blown away with the quality and the fact that it has the same directio... Show More

Excellent Lens!
I haven't had this lens all that long, but so far it has lived up to expectations. I bought it as a replacement to my Nikon 18-55mm kit lens and the picture quality is better, the motor is much quieter and the autofocus is faster. I only wish I would have bought this sooner!

Sharp and fast!
I only recently got this lens. I bought it to use for event photography, though I've not used it for that yet. I've used it for long exposure night photography, landscapes as well as portraiture. The lens worked flawlessly. Focuses quickly as well as it has a very nice and smooth bokeh. The colors and contrast in the photos are better than expected.
