Manfrotto 808RC4 3-Way, Pan-and-Tilt Head with 410PL Quick Release Plate

Sort of Arca Swiss but not really Arca Swiss
I got this ball head to put on my older Manfrotto BeFree tripod because Manfrotto says it is Arca Swiss compatible. I have the Peak Design plate that slips into their Capture Clip which are Arca Swiss compatible, and thought it would be nice to not have to switch between that and the Manfrotto plate all the time. However, it doesn't get locked in, because it is too small for the release system. For an Arca Swiss plate to fit on this head, it needs to be 42mm wide...the PD plate is 38mm. I guess that's why Manfrotto's description says it will work with 'almost all' Arca type plates.

Good all round travel tripod
This tripod is excellent to squeeze into my luggage due the 4 legs giving the ability to collapse down nicely, though extend to a comfortable working height in the field.

STRONG, RELIABLE AND HASSLE FREE

Great photography head
Attaches easily to a tripod with a 3/8" screw. Very easy to adjust the three-ways and the built-in level for all three dimensions is a blessing for quick adjustment.

Unfortunate had to return 2 units.
I received this item and the landscape to portrait unit was gritty and sticking. I returned and had another one of the same item sent and it too had the same problem. After 2 units directly out of the box having the same problem I chose not to go with this unit for fear of trust in the quality control on this product. Perhaps I was unlucky to get 2 back to back units failing with the same problem. Quite a shame because other than the gritty sticky issue this head was exactly what I was looking for. B&H customer service were excellent thru the return processes.

Well built
I just wanted a solid 3-axis head and this hit the mark. The extendable handles are more helpful than I expected. It's nice to be able to shorten them when you aren't using your tripod so they don't snag on things as much. The tension knobs are great for tuning the head to your camera's weight. I definitely recommend this unit, there's nothing to complain about.

Very versatile
This tripod and ball head combo are a very strong, stable and adjustable platform for my heavy camera and lens rig. The extra height is also a plus. It will take a long time to test the limits of its strength and adjustability but I can tell it will be a valuable tool to get those impressive shots! The extra gadgets included in the kit only enhance an already excellent value.

Precise but heavy
This tripod is precise and allows you to quickly level your camera. The tripod itself is a little on the heavy side, but it works very well.

Great combination!
I upgraded to the 405 from the 410 Jr. It is larger and the knobs are much smoother. I like the 3 bubbles. Really help for vertical shots. The 055 carbon fiber legs are lighter than the aluminum ones, but to not appear to add any shake.

Good product for good price.
This head works great with my 5D mark IV and the 24-70mm L lens. No issues with creeping at any angle or position. Holds the weight exactly where I place the camera so the subject doesn't drift out of the shot. The locking mechanisms work really well. Small, compact, and easy to carry while traveling. Might not be super-heavy-duty for some applications, but for the price it can't be beat.

Best tripod I have used!
I was using a a Manfrotto 195 with the same head until recently. I didn't change because of anything about the 195, but after a trip to Russia our host graciously let my entire family stay in their home for two weeks and treated us like royalty. I noticed that she had a certificate on the wall for completing photography school but she didn't have tripod. Not a Great Start
I bought this rig less than a month ago, and have used it on several occasions with great success. I've set it up as a normal tripod, and as a low level tripod, using the 90 degree arm. Works well. Doesn't when it's windy
The tripod gets a little heavy when the 100-400mm lens is attached. Fits on the side of my camera case back pack and makes a little heavy. Easy to carry when not strapped to the camera bag.

Sturdy
This is my first carbon fiber tripod legs. A step up from the cheaper all in one tripods I've used in the past and I would say well worth the upgrade. I've done some practice long exposure night shots in my back yard and it's night and day compared to what I was using before. Would recommend and a must have for long exposure images.

Worth the effort to buy.
Got this item in time for the eclipse. Put an 80d on with a 120-300 (6.7 lbs) Sigma and 2x converter. The ball head settled back alittle ( shooting almost straight up) , then held for numerous shots. Haven't tried the 90 degree offset yet but this thing works great.

Great Tripod
It is a wonderful tripod for a my Tamron 150-600 lense. I used it to photograph the solar eclipse almost straight overhead. The tripod center post adjusted perfectly to allow me to catch the shoots.

Solid combination
Steady mount for up to 300 mm DSLR. Did have some noticeable vibration when used in 20 mph winds, but otherwise good performance.

Solid Tripod
Over the last few weeks I have used the tripod in a number of settings. I have found the tripod to be very high quality. Some of my complaints are the same you'll see in other reviews of the product: no hole/hook to hang a center weight, lack of an ability to further hold the tripod down with peg leg attachments or other form. Very similar to the aluminum, which I purchased for my dad a few years ago. This one is worth the extra coin if you can get it on rebate.

Wow I love my new Manfrotto 055CX pro tri-pod and Xpro ball head. I got it and used it on the eclipse this last Monday. That is all I have had time to use it but I did love it. The $140.00 off plus the $140.00 rebate made it affordable for me as I am retired. The rebates and discounts go away August 31ST.
