Feels soft loaded
Would be great for mirror less or a DSLR with no big lens. I will likely use it with a 4x5 field camera but a Toyo Rail Studio camera does not do so well on it. That is a long load but well within the claimed weight it supports. Seems to flex a bit much. So four stars because it is decent and I may be pushing it a bit with 4x5 use but I think it's claims are a bit much. My favorite quick release though.

Almost Amazing
This unit is really good in almost every way. The only issue I have is that the height adjustable center colum never really fully locks. Even when you screw the clamp down as hard as you can a bump will knock it out of wack. There is always a slight back and forth on the pan axis. It's only small but enough to throw your shot out. I'm using a MVH502AH video head and the handle tends to get bumped a bit as its large. this has been causing me some issues. Other than that this tripod is great.

Nice versatile pod.
I have had my MT055xpro3 tripod for a couple weeks now and have put it to some good use on recent outings to Yellowstone NP. It's a sturdy mount and has no problem handling the weight of my 7D MkII w/ 150-600mm lens. Set up and takedown is super fast compared to my other tripod with the twist type leg adjusters. Plus it is way more versatile with the 90* adjustable center pole and multi angle leg adjustment. You can adjust this pod so as your cam... Show More

Love the Manfrottos!
I owned a different Manfrotto tripod and loved it for the flip-locks. To be honest, I don't like the twisting knobs because I can't instinctively turn them the correct way. So I found myself needing to shoot from near the ground and needed a tripod that could go really low. I have that now with the Manfrotto MT055CXPRO4 Carbon Fiber tripod. No more lying on my tummy in the mud, bugs, and sticks. And the center column easily converts to an arm that you can use for flower photography. The Manfrottos are well made and that's another reason I stick with them.

Don't let the legs slide and slam into place
Just as another reviewer experienced, I also had a leg fall off while extending the legs. It was due to the weight of the legs, and the force that is experienced when you let the legs slide open and suddenly stop at the end. If you are worried about the legs coming off you can tighten the screws down that keep the clamp on. It is habit for me now to keep my hand on the leg as it slides down and to grip just a bit right before it is fully extended... Show More

Great Tripod
Wow! I've heard and done lots of research before this purchase. I did my homework and this tripod is all that. I was looking for a buy once cry once event and definitely worth the money. The adjustments are great and precise. I purchased it as a companion piece to my Kowa TSN-82 also purchased from B&H. Great products and unbeatable pricing. I think this is a 20+ year investment and worth every penny. Great pricing and the product is top shelf. W... Show More

What a piece of junk! What has happened to Manfrotto????
I had a set of 055XPROB for years. Using them daily doing real estate photography (3-6 shoots a day). They were great, a tank, loved them. Unfortunately, they ran out of gas recently so I needed new legs. Figured I'd stay with Manfrotto and go with what replaced these. Wish I hadn't! First of all, these things do NOT feel like the tank that Manfrotto legs have felt like in the past. They feel more like a toy. Hard to explain but they just don't F... Show More

Amazing build quality. If you really want to shoot like pro I would highly recommend this.

Loved it and than it broke after a week!
This is a great tripod for the price and combo! The gear head is awesome, the tripod is nice too but when extending my leg the other day it completely flew off and almost broke my mark iii and tilt shift lens.. in front of the client I was shooting for. I've had the tripod for 3 weeks and haven't used it much and it shouldn't be falling apart especially for over $300. I would have given it 5 stars.

Double Check when you get it
When to this to hold my Manfrotto Geared Head - Worked perfectly- Much lighter than my previous tripod which I had some difficulty with going up and down stairs. The reason for the 4 instead of 5 rating was that the first time out with it, as i was extending the legs, two of them slid off the end of the tripod as i was holding it up and released the clamp. Apparently not clamped with enough pressure. Used the adjustment driver (Supplied) and have not had it happen since.

So far, I like it.
I have used the tripod only one weekend so far, but I like it. Have not used the folding arm function, but tried it in the living room. I was concerned whether I could adjust the camera to a horizontal view using the arm where the camera will be vertical in its regular position. With a pan/tilt head, looked like I could get any position I desired. I have had several Manfrotto tripods and the one beef I've had is there was no way to tighten the le... Show More

High Quality
These items - the tripod and the head - are nicely made high quality items made in Italy. All the parts work smoothly. The tripod is stable. The weight capacity is fairly high. The center column can be moved to horizontal which is useful for straight on overhead shots of objects. The feet do seem to slip fairly easily on a smooth, hard floor. This isn't really a problem, but if the feet were a softer rubber or polymer of some type, it might be an... Show More

Excellent buy!
This tripod and head have changed my whole attitude toward using a tripod. Easy to set up and use, large handles on head adjustments very comfortable. Only change I'd make is the attachment screw on the mounting plate, don't always have a coin to loosen/tighten.

I would definitely buy this product again.
Rock solid, light weight. easy to use tripod. I have used this with my Tamron 150-600 lens as well as macro lens at 90 degree angle for flower photography. I use this with Manfrotto 804RC2 head.

Light and sturdy
This is easily the best tripod I've ever had. It is light, and very sturdy. Even fully extended, it doesn't fell all vulnerable and spindly like others do. Solid stuff, and the quality is self evident. I bought mine to anchor an Edelkrone Pro Med slider, which can hold 30lbs (14kg), but only if mounted on a solid tripod... since it moves 18 (500mm), it could easily tip over if you had a tripod that is too small, or too weak. The Manfroto o55 hand... Show More

A must for anyone copying art.
If you do any art copywork (paintings, drawings, etc.), this tripod and geared head are exactly what you want. The geared head is heavy but well made and allows you to finely tune your composition so that you are completely level to the ground and artwork. Skip the ball head, you'll go nuts. The tripod is very sturdy and will not shake. One nice thing about the 550 besides the ample height for getting centered on large works, is the 90 degree arm that can be used to take photos of smaller art on the ground, thus it functions as a copystand too. Don't hesitate. This is what you want.

No need for an extremely expensive carbon fiber tripod
I find the weight of the tripod is not too hefty, at all, for transport as opposed to the specs I see on carbon fiber based tripods that are much more expensive, and to which you sacrifice weight capacity, unless you plan on re-mortgaging your house. The overall quality of the tripod is excellent for durability, sturdiness, usefulness, looks, and aesthetics in design. It is priced well against competitors and fully made in Italy, giving it a form and design edge.

I would buy this product again.
Very well built equipment. The head is a serious thing- there is weight to it, but sturdy. Not something you want to take hiking, but for Real Estate photography, it is perfect. The tripod is awesome, but watch out for those snaps... they will pinch you good. I'm very impressed with the total quality.
