Manfrotto 808RC4 3-Way, Pan-and-Tilt Head with 410PL Quick Release Plate

Amazing
This was expensive but the difference is like living in a different world. It does every task that I need to do requiring a tripod in my studio and in the field. Why did I wait so long to get this workhorse? Many possibilities yet to be explored in the plein air painting world of watercolor painting. Fabulous rig for a DSLR camera or a studio projector. Very happy camper! DanW

Good Head, hope its strong.
The Manfrotto 496 ball head seems like a good tripod head. The base of the head is smaller than the older mounts for the Bogen/Manfrotto tripods so the set screws dont really lock into anything. Its got a locking/tension knob instead of a lever so it seems with big objects on top it might be a little more of a challenge to reach the knob. Its got a separate pan lock that is a very small knob and though it is useful to have a separate release for ... Show More

Solid and Precise
Use primarily for still life macro work and its great! Easily holds my 70D, macro lens, ring light, and focus rail. The horizontal column feature is neat, but needs to be counter balanced with the macro setup on it and fully extended. Not a big deal as most shots dont require full extension. Tripod is very stable, easy to adjust, and like the rubberized leg grips. The geared head is amazing. Used in conjunction with a focus rail it allows for very precise control during macro shooting. Really fantastic. Quality pieces right here and very happy I invested in them.

Excellent tripod for all levels of photographer
You can spend a lot more money, even though this one isnt cheap, on a Gitzo or some other ultra-high end tripod. But this carbon fiber model does everything a photographer would want: light weight, very stable, easy to use and very effective hardware. I would recommend this to anyone at any level of photography.

Great buy
I have a 600mm Sigma. It is very heavy, and I am a small woman. This monopode head is extremally helpful. I loved the steadness on it, and made my task much easier.

For the first manfrotto release a plate that could accommodate an arca plate and 200 quick release plate. Good decision from manfrotto as you save money by using one tripod only to accommodate 2 different plates

Heavy duty tripod for my studio.
Sturdy, well built and is very versatile. I use it for portrait, home photos and table top product shots. Fast set up with only two latches per leg too.

Easy to Use System ...
This pan and tilt head is amazingly easy to use and makes minute adjustments a breeze! With the friction knobs, you can adjust the friction to your taste and feel. The pull out adjustment handles are really smooth and accurate for adjustments. Combined with the friction knob your adjustments will be spot on. It looks heavy, but I found it easy to handle and install. The quick release system works fine. Another great feature is that the handles ca... Show More

Sturdy and well built
I bought myself the Canon 70-200Llll 2.8 for Christmas and I took it out on a trial run and put it on my tripod only to discover it was too heavy for that head. I researched and decided on the 808RC4 and it works great. Its sturdy and well built and I have no issues putting any lens and camera combo on it. Good shooting to all of you.

In one direction, arca-compatible. Rotate 90-degrees, and it is compatible with RC2 clamps. Also fits FLM lever clamps.

Rock Solid Quality
Bought this to replace aMagnusPV-7450M that broke and couldnt be happier. The build quality is light years beyond the Magnus and functions much better. I primarily use this for still-life macro work and it is excellent. The tripod is very stable. It supports the heavy 410 geared head, macro focusing rail, and DSLR with macro ring light with ease. The 90 degree center column feature is really awesome and very convenient. Wish it extended out a bit... Show More

Love it
I recently handed down my former Manfrotto kit to my daughter so it was time for new stuff. This kit is fantastic. Heavy duty tripod and this geared head is a monster. I recently did a large food product shoot with the old Manfrotto and while it worked fine, this geared head would have made it so much easier for shot setup and repeatability. Im very happy with this purchase and you cant beat B&H for the price.

Sturdy versatile tripod
Very pleased with the quality of this tripod and with the diversity of how you can use it. Only downsides to the purchase was neither the tripod or head came with bags and its a bit heavy for traveling with.

Very functional
I like the 200PL quick release system and wanted this system on the new head I was shopping for. I also did not want a ball head for my purposes. Those two feature requirements greatly reduced my choices and the XPRO 3way was really my only choice so that is what I purchased to put on my Benro A373T tripod. The head works great, it is strong and very adjustable. My only nit-pick is the way the quick release plate seats in the head. On my other M... Show More

Excellent!
I have been trying to make do with cheaper tripods for years (less than $150). At a photo workshop on early October over half of the photographers has high quality tripods and ball or gimbal heads. I decided it was time to bite the bullet and buy a quality tripod. I decided on this one, not the most expensive but looked like it was well made. I used it yesterday to assist in shooting a wedding. Outstanding! I expect it to last me the rest of my life, Im only 90 so Im expecting a long and high quality experience. Im quite satisfied with my choice.

Good tripod, poor response from Manfrotto if problems
This is a great tripod. It had everything I wanted. Short enough to fit in my checked luggage, light enough to carry around, tall enough for me (6ft tall+). Only, the second time I pulled the center column up, the plastic rotator collar snapped. It still works, but it is hard to put back to the vertical position. I would have returned this tripod to BH, but it looked like a part that could be replaced fairly easily, so I tried going through Manfr... Show More

Nice and steady
Since I haven't got out to the fild still... I can just tell you that it is perfectly stable and holding Mamiya RB67 Pro SD with 250 mm KL lens without problems (cca 4 kg). We will see how it will work out in the field.

Flawed product and customer service
When using the 90 degree center column tilt in the field, the center column mechanism blew apart leaving me without a tripod, 4 hours from home. I sent in for repair by email, as that is the only method for contacting customer service. They literally didn't respond for exactly 4 months. Emailed June 11, response October 11. Will never buy manfrotto again.

Rock Solid
I bought this tripod seeking a very solid and stable unit for trips when I'm driving, not flying for a shoot. It is everything I wanted with Manfrotto quality to boot! I'm very pleased with my purchase and would do it again!
