WD 4TB My Book Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive
Works on all my computers and TV's.
I can transfer video from PC then play it on all my Samsung TV's. It powers down when not in use so you can leave it plugged in to the TV. I've only had it a short while but it seems to be the same great quality of my other WD drives. I'm currently using 11 WD external drives on my PC's, laptop and TV's. I also have other brands but I now only buy WD.

Love these drives
I have more Western Digital drives than probably anyone. They are reliable and fast. I have over a dozen of this specific drive and I really only get problems with them when I accidentally drop one on the concrete floor. And they still usually work after that! I own some drives from other brands, but always seem to return to Western Digital.

Not Mac friendly at all!
The drive would constantly disconnect on it's own. I would have to re-start my computer and even then it mostly would not mount. I re-formatted the drive 2 times yielding the same results. I read similar reviews regarding this issue. I will be returning mine tomorrow and unfortunately have to upgrade to the double wide WD 8TB at $100 more : (

Clunky
I have 8 other WD desktop drives. All have worked well, no failures yet. This drive sounds terrible but it works. Not convinced that it will keep working though. I copy all my photos to 2 different drives, then store each drive in a separate location. Thats my solution rather than a RAID. WD drives have all been great except for this one.

WD 8TB My Book Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive
To be perfectly honest, I buy most of my purchases on price. When I was searching for an 8TB drive, B and H photography came up as the cheapest price. They also offered a quick and reasonable delivery via DHL. I would recommend B and H for good price and good service. The hard drive is as expected from WD, working well.

WD SOFTWARE WOULD NOT LOAD INTO WINDOWS 10
SINCE THE SOFTWARE THAT COMES WITH THE WD MY BOOK COULD NOT BE LOADED INTO WINDOWS 10 AFTER THREE HOURS OF CONSULTATION WITH WD AND WINDOWS, I AM LEFT WITH AN EXTERNAL HARD DISC AND USING WINDOWS FILE HISTORY TO BACK UP MY COMPUTER. IF THE DISC HAS A LONG AND TROUBLE FREE LIFE, I WILL BE HAPPY, BUT THAT IS YET TO BE SEEN.

Great buy and large capacity.
Decent speed and large storage capacity make this drive a winner. I am using it to not only back up my entire system, but as an additional drive. I do wish that the unit had a light on it to let you know that it was active. The drive is very quiet. B and H service and prices are always great and I enjoy shopping there.

Works well; high capacity.
I use this hard drive as a backup for my MacBook Pro and second hard drive. It works very well. Only small issue, is that is must be formatted for use on a Mac. To be sure, this reformatting is quite easy. The 6TB size is nice and large, plenty of room to backup a 4TB external drive and the internal drive on the Mac.

Video Editing and mirror back up
Bought two of these as a double backup RAID drive for my video files and work on 3/2/17. Impressed with the build quality and packaging. Using on a Mac laptop. They are ever so slightly loud when you plug them in to the wall unit. I wish read and write times were faster. Bang for buck though seems to be worth it.

Wouldn't buy again
Very slow and found it to make many concerning noises. I'm no expert, but it just doesn't seem like the best option out of all the drives that are out there. It does seem to work, but it has trouble mounting to computers, both my MacBook Pro and iMac take 3-4 minutes to show the icon on the desktop and connect.

Looks better than the old model but......
This drive works pretty well for about a month plus now. The only thing that worries me that this new drive start to make some mechanical click sound. Not often but it's there. My old 4tb wd mybook still works well without any noticeable problem. Conclusion: This still a cool looking, working drive by far.

Great for Time Machine Backup. Very quiet.
I bought this to give me more room for all my backup files. I use it on my Mac Pro Tower with Time Machine. It's very quiet. I was able to move my older 4TB My Book to my wife's machine for backup and to use her much older 3TB My Book as an external hard drive so she now has more storage on her iMac.

Whoa, 10 TB!
I was in need of more storage space, and short of buying myself my own cloud I resorted to two 10 TB hard drives. The transfer from my original 4 TB drive was slow, but that may be as much a computer issue as a hard drive issue. I never had any WD drives fail on me, and they are reasonably priced.

Good price for the size, but slow drive.
I purchased this drive to use as a network attached storage device to store our music, movies, photos, etc. It's a great price for the capacity, but it is very slow and is constantly spinning down. I would only recommend this as a backup drive for this purpose or connected directly to your computer.

Good Capacity
I bought two and they are as fast as external usb 3.0 usually are. The disc is slow to build up to operating speed. Since I turn off my pc at night, I have to start the drives 15 to 20 seconds before I boot up my win 7 pc. If they last more than a couple of years, I will up my ratting to five stars.

Great External Hard Drive
My 3 TB Seagate External Hard Drive went along with 80000 images. I was devastated . Luckily I had done GoodSync Backup and was able to get all my images back onto this 6 TB WD External Hard Drive. I bought two of these , the second one for backup. I plan to buy a third to keep off site.

I am very happy with this drive
I put off buying an external hard drive for a long time. Now that I have finally bought one I am very happy. Set up was extremely fast. The unit is almost silent and does not take up much space on my crowded desk. This drive will be used to store all the images from my photography business.

The Best
I've always been a fan of Western Digital hard drives for over 10+ years, and this is one is one of their best. For being 8TB, the price is amazing. But most importantly, it's super reliable and very fast at USB 3.0 speeds. I'm definitely looking to buy another one as a backup to this one.

Not as fast as the older, smaller drives...
USB 3.0 is a plus. Nice sized storage for the price. Compared to my older 2TB WD drive, (circa 2010...which recently started dying!) I have noticed that it takes about 20 seconds for the drive to spin up and display the contents. Mind you, the drive is always plugged in and always on.

Another WD external drive for my system
This is my third WD USB drive -- I keep getting them larger and larger. This 8TB drive will probably stay hooked to the my PC, while my older drives (2TB and 4TB) will shuttle back and forth to my bank safe deposit box with my redundant backups. (No, I do not believe in the Cloud)

no LED light or other signal is confusing
This device works fine, neither faster or slower than other similar. But the absence of any indicator showing that the device is "on", transferring data, or is just active at all, such as LED light commonly present in older WD MyBooks and other brands, is quite confusing.

Noisy But Nice!
I purchased this drive to back up an extensive photographic library. It's a solid drive for a very reasonable price. It is noisy, but the din serves as the only indication that the drive is operating properly (no indicator lights). Bottom line: a solid drive for a great price.

Enough Room to Roam
It really is about the size of a book. The unit is reasonably quiet and does not seem to generate much heat for such a large capacity drive. I have not really tested the data transfer rate but it does seem to be fast enough. Its nice to have lots of spare space.
