Excellent value; some flaws

Aug 26, 2010

Bought to replace a somewhat heavier tripod we've had for years that I've been holding together with bailing wire and finally gave up when I lost the mounting plate. The elevator gear feels rough. It may loosen over time, but you can really feel the gears meshing and binding a little as your turn. The handle for the elevator has only a 2 radius which feels a bit cramped, but does avoid hitting the legs. The tension control from twisting the colum... Show More

Excellent!

Jul 19, 2010

Excellent product! The tripod is sturdy and compact and also easy handling. I really liked the fact that it has a reserve pice in case of its loss. The price is quite attractive, I think it is not possible to find a similar one with such a good price.

Fantastic tripod for the price!!

Jul 12, 2010

I was very surprised about the quality of the tripod. The legs are supported and braced very well. You can hang your backpack on the center telescoping rod, which adds more weight to the legs. Very smooth, and fast to use. A fantastic buy.

I am an amateur photographer and I bought this as my first real tripod. I have been very happy with it so far- it seems very solid, is easy to use, and has worked well for me.

Perfect Purchase

Apr 28, 2010

I can hardly believe I got so much for so little money. This tripod is perfect in every respect. Easy to set up and easy to use. I had looked at many others before I purchased this one and every one of the features are perfect. What a deal.

Hi-Q, Low $ Tripod Loaded with Features

Apr 15, 2010

This tripod is very sturdy and the trapezoid shaped telescopic legs do not rotate. Being aluminum, it is also very light. The interchangeable camera plates and various levels make this a feature-rich tripod as well. The outdoor spike-feet allow it to be used anywhere. The only drawback is that the strap on the carrying case is not quite long enough to go around a shoulder, but it can be carried briefcase style so it doesn't matter much. It is also somewhat large, but not especially.

The Sunpak 8001UT tripod is surprisingly sturdy and reliable for the low cost. The bubble level comes in handy and the included tripod bag is great for transport. Perfect for my Nikon D5000.

This is the first tripod I ever had. It is light weight, easy to use. I have been using it in closeup shot of my wife's Hummels and it works great!

Better bargain...

It's lighter then it seems to be. The FREE carring case folds away easily when using the tripod. So far I've only used it for portraits and love it.

Smooth, Light, and Compact

Jan 20, 2010

I use the 8001UT Tripod by Sunpack for shooting DSLR stills and video. It's great for traveling and getting to remote locations where you never know when a tripod could come in handy. It's great because it's light weight - a mere 3 pounds. Despite being light weight, it is fairly sturdy and won't slide around too much on slippery surfaces. But be careful not to bump it! It has the ability to stick right into the ground and elevate to about 60 inc... Show More

Decent Tripod

Aug 2, 2008

This is a decent tripod for the money. Lightweight but a little cumbersome. I'm especially not a fan of the crank style middle column adjuster. It's just not easy enough to use though it does the job.
