Great system
This was an upgrade for my existing Mark II. Great system, although i experienced rapid battery drain when using third party batteries. (Watson) I am getting over 900 images with the Canon original batteries, and about half that with the third party brand. I am glad Canon put a second setting in the GPS enable menu area. Canon reliability.
Ive tried a number of cameras and keep coming back to this one. The magnesium body. Ability to record raw video, which lowers import times as you dont have to decompress from lousy AVCHD when editing is a huge plus. Make sure you read the supported memory card list. Yes, Go Ahead And Upgrade!
As good as the 5D Mk III is, the Mark IV benefits from a plethora of updates and new capabilities that, in my opinion, make this a very worthwhile upgrade. Excellent upgrade to the 5D Mark III
I have owned every 5D camera and this one is the best! The Mark IV is more refined and has a quieter shutter. The addition of faster frames per second means I can shoot an HDR image quicker and thus have less lag in between shots. After one year of research and ruminating, I purchased the 5DM4 as an upgrade to my 5DM2. In the past 48 hours I have taken over 500 shots under every conceivable condition in my desert landscape exclusively using my 3 Canon red line lenses...16-35mm, 24-105mm, and 70-200mm. I have only owned the camera a week and have had it out only once. I have owned the 5D Mark II, 5D Mark III and now the 5D Mark IV. All were and are incredible cameras. I'm sure thus camera will receive a ton of detailed reviews. Mine will be very simple. I shoot street fashion typically using the Canon 85mm f/1.2 L II lens and upgraded from a 6D to the 5D Mark IV. I owned 5D MK2, mainly for photography, then skipped MK3, because I thought the improvements didn't quite justify the cost. What I was waiting for was simply more cross-type focus points, (which MK3 had, but that alone wasn't enough), Wifi & GPS, USB3 for thethering, and auto focus in video mode (possible now because of Dual Pixel tech). Amazing Camera, BIG learning curve
I totally love the camera after using for a month. Photos are amazing! So far my only displeasure would be the movement of buttons from where they have typically been on a Canon. For me, the RATE button is a total waste. I don't rate my photos in camera. I rate them in editing. Should have put the info button there. Such a waste of a button. An absolutely awesome camera
I upgraded to the 5D Mark IV from a 6D and couldn't be happier. The 6D is a fine camera but the 5D Mark IV is an awesome camera. The dynamic range is very wide and the 30 megapixels give you extremely detailed images. I've been impressed with the frame-grabs I've gotten from short 4K video clips of birds in flight...handheld too! I have had all 5D cameras over the years and this one is undoubtedly the best 5D ever made. And, of course, I am giving it 5 stars because the camera is fantastic. But... Long story short, it is not worth switching from Mk3 to Mk4. Period. After two wedding shoots with the Mk4 I can assert: 1. Focusing speeds of Mk3 and Mk4 in the low light is the same. 2. This is the third camera in the 5D line I have purchased. I had the original 5D - loved it and passed it on to my daughter when I purchased the 5D II. Loved the 5D II it was a great improvement over the 5D. I did not get a 5DIII but I just got the 5D IV about two weeks ago. Shot 4K 24p footage for a docu with it. I was concerned with the crop factor, even rented a wider lens for it, but it wasnt that bad. You can survive with a 24 mm prime in most situations that you need a wide. If moving a lot with a stabilizer, you might want to have a wider lens, just in case. I purchased this to upgrade from my 70d. From the very first picture, even just on the camera's screen, I could tell that the quality was steps above my old crop sensor. So Far So Good & Not Disappointed At All
I took about 1000 photos with my new 5DM4 and about 300 photos with my old 5DM3 at a mostly indoors event for a client. Using flash with both cameras for my indoor shots, I never needed to go above ISO 3200. Comparing the two, I'd say both came out about the same (i.e., no real issues with noise, really good images). I upgraded to this camera from a 5D Mark III. The pictures I take with the Mark IV are astronomically better than my Mark III. I went from making a bunch of edits to my photos to making very little.
