Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC Lens For Nikon with AE Chip

Amazing price on a solid performer
I grew up without auto focus, so lack of AF on this lens doesn't bother me. At All. Picked it up in store Friday morning and was shooting in minutes. I kind of dig the distortion, that you have to expect with a 14mm lens, although there are plenty of ways to correct in post. I have looked at every piece of wide angle glass available for my D750, and this is the perfect solution for me to get wider than 24mm on a zoom. I know there is other stuff out there, but a 2.8 at this price is a great value!

Lens is a tight fit in the Nikon mount
The lens appears to be well-constructed and is reasonably sharp. As would be expected there is significant distortion in this ultra-wide angle lens, however, that can be significantly mitigated by applying the lens corrections in Adobe Camera Raw or other program. Personally I prefer to use an ultra-wide angle lens as a compositional tool for the perspective distortion of foreground objects rather than just taking in a wide scene, so the distorti... Show More

Good Value
Very good lens for the price. Not tack sharp but completely acceptable since I purchased this lens primarily for star photography

A great lens
If one is on a budget and wants a wide angle lens, this is the one to go for. I am extremely pleased with the build quality and sharpness of the photographs. Of course since its a wide angle lens there is some distortion but that can be easily corrected. All in all a great lens for landscape photography.

Best money I've spent on my camera so far.
I bought the 14mm specifically because I've enjoyed taking photos of the stars with my 17-40 f4 and wanted to take it a bit further. I read a couple of reviews of the Rokinon 14mm and decided to give it a try. Very happy I did; the lens surpassed my expectations. Full manual is not as much of an issue as I thought it would be, for my uses at least, and the IQ is great. Genuinely very surprised that this economic solution is as good as it is. Buil... Show More

Like it so far
So far I like it. Lots of distortion but was expecting that so not a problem. Delivery was really quick to Canada. I got a chance to test it out on the weekend and for the price I am happy with it. I attached a couple of pictures I got with it

Impressive, and a great price.
I have only had this lens for a few weeks, but I can give it 5 stars. I am impressed by its solid construction, super sharp, color neutral photos, and how well it mates/handles with my new K1. The fact that it's a manual focus lens does not bother me at all. It takes a little getting used to, but the lens works perfectly. By the way, buying from B&H is great. When I bought the lens it cost $399. Two weeks later the price dropped $30. One call to B&H and I got my refund with no problems. I very happy with this purchase.

Great lens!
I'm actually surprised how much I like this lens. The pictures are high quality with minimal distortion. I have not tried it in low light settings yet however. An issue is that it is difficult to manually focus, but that's my biggest complaint. Overall very happy with it

Blown away by the sharpness
Wow, I read good reviews about this lens but was very worried about the manual focus issue. I am using it on a Nikon D800 and I am amazed by the sharpness and image quality of that lens. Manual focus is very easy specially if you shoot objects that are 3 meters and further as the focus will get you to infinity. Highly recommended.

5 stars for the price!
I got this lens because the Nikkor version was pretty steep in price, and I wasn't sure if I would enjoy this focal length. Rokinon to the rescue! mere sub $400 ultra wide angle, that appears to be sharp sharp sharp all over. Manual focus only, but with my d750's and d800's, I had zero problem with the focus indicator, and it lands focus with some practice every time. Lens cap is well made and clips on to the lens very easily. Only bad part is th... Show More

Go to lens for the night
I found this lens extremely simple to set up for all my night sky photography. Although it is straight up manual, I found it easier to adjust for conditions than any of my other lenses I use for night time photography. Very pleased.

Great wide angle lens for the money!
Great wide angle lens. Better used up close then at a distance as it captures a lot of area! Manual focus only with AE chip that confirms focus. The instructions that come with the lens are horrible and aren't to clear on exactly how to use it. Had to Google usage and found the answer on the B&H website. Good job B&H!

Rukinon 14mm F2.8: Great for Milky Way Photography
Astrophotography is harsh on lenses when used wide open. Most show various kinds of abberrations unless they are truly premium lenses or stopped down a couple of F-stops. The Rokinon 14mm used wide open produces very acceptable star images over the entire frame when using my Canon T3i. No lens is perfect, but this one performs like lenses costing much more. A winner in my book. The attached photo is largely unprocessed; 20 seconds F2.8.

Excellent lens
I'm using this for night photography and was impressed with its clarity shooting the Milky Way. Easy to use: set at infinity and f2.8. Works well with my Canon 7D. Minimal horizon distortion.

tricky learning curve
I use this lens on a fairly old Pentax K-X. The manual focus ring is a bit stiff in my opinion and the depth of field isn't much different from f2.8 to f22. I also don't notice any change in lighting from the range of aperture. There is a silver button on the aperture ring that locks in place when turned all the way to f2.8 but I have absolutely no idea what it does. You can assume that I have no idea what I'm doing in general. However, I am able... Show More

Nice lens if you can get a good copy
First copy of this lens could not focus at infinity at f/2.8, and the right side of the picture was mush. B&H return policy is great, they paid shipping both ways and sent me another lens promptly. Second copy is much better. The lens is fairly lightweight, compared to the typical 14-24mm f/2.8 bricks and not much larger than a typical 18-55mm kit lens. Focus and aperture rings are smooth and positive. Moderately sharp across the whole frame, on ... Show More

Great lens for a great price.
If you're looking for a full-frame, wide angle lens for a reasonable price, look no further. It's not so wide angle that the image seems distorted, but it captures enough to make it a great lens for interior shots. I use it for photographing architectural interiors and it has eliminated the need to stitch multiple photos together in Photoshop. Now if I want an HDR panorama, I can jump straight to the HDR process. I do wish it had vibration reduction and autofocus, but for the price I would not expect those features. The build quality seems solid.

Would definitely recommend this lens
It's a handy little lens for night sky and landscape photography. I used it to stitch a 30 image panorama of the Milky Way, and it performed beautifully. Although a manual lens, it was very easy to use, and is very good at controlling chromatic aberration. At f/2.8, it still remains sharp to the edges.

Good entry-level wide angle lens
Bright, clear lens, not a lot of distortion. Takes good clear photos. I've had a lot of fun with this thing. Decent even in low light. A bit of a learning curve if you're not used to shooting without autofocus, but overall a fun lens.

Bang for Buck!
I bought this lens about a year ago based off of user reviews and I must say I am really happy with it. Well, I am a hobbyist photographer with a limited budget, though I am not saying you're sacrifice quality by purchasing this lens. The housing is primarily metal with a plastic aperture ring and fixed petal hood. They put the money is the glass. It's an extremely basic prime lens, which I like. Photos come out clean and crisp!
