Let me first off just say that I am NOT an audio expert, but I do have a sense for sound and I have been very interested in being able to produce high quality video productions with high quality sound.I first tried a cheaper lav for just $ and as you would expect, its sound was sooo bad. It was low quality, noisy, and just sounded as if you were inside a box or something. After watching a couple of online courses on audio for video production, I soon realized that I need high quality gear if I want to be taken seriously. As I learned, No one cares when the sound is good, but everyone has a problem with bad sound.I researched intensivly on great lavalier microhpones because I really wanted something that is used in Television and that is robust and powerful.I soon learned that one lavalier microphone used in the online courses I had watched, was Tram TR50 (this one I purchased) and I quickly bought this one.I bought from B&H because they were the only one who seemed trustworthy in my eyes, and who had this TR50 in XLR hardwired. At first I had some internal noise problem and I thought I had gotten a bad one(I used it with Zoom H4n recorder which I hihgly recommend due to its awesome phantom power, better than its predecessors) but I quickly got this handled by using the Zoom H4n with batteries instead of cable. The sound this little fella produces is amazing. It is sooo tiny in size, smaller than one inch in size, and still, it produces ten times better sound than a huge and cheap lav does.It comes with great cable management so you won't have to conk so much which is great for newbies like myself. I record with 60-70 in recording level and the sound is awesome and it really has that dialogue-sound to it that I have been wanting for so long.Once you go Pro Lav you can't (and will never want to) go back to on-video mics or cheap lavs. I highly recommend this for anyone who want professional audio; and remember- your audience won't notice when you have excellent audio but they will always notice and get annoyed by your bad audio. If you want to be taken seriously on camera, this is one of the best lavs to get for its great price. I recommend it to anyone who, just like me, want to be able to get professional audio on a small budget. Thanks once again B&H for your awesome customer service, fast delivery and awesome collection of products.Best regards,MaxTheMarketer from Sundsvall in Sweden. ... The Tram TR50 is a great sound lav mic. Let me first get that out of the way. It's very clear, and does a great job representing the human voice without any mud or unnecessary frequencies. Here is the issue with the TR50. It has a VERY low output gain, and you need to boost your pre amp very loud to get enough volume out of this mic. If you're using a very high end recorder like a sound device, or another great pre amp, then you're fine, but if you are using any lower end recorder (like an H4N, H6, Roland R05, etc), you're going to get a LOT of pre amp noise, along with your signal. In comparison to the included Sennheiser ME-2 that comes with the sennheiser wireless, I need to boost the TR50 more than twice as much on the preamp to get the same amount of gain. Definitely consider whether this mic is good for you. If you have a great recorder, then I recommend it. If you don't, then get something else. ... More

I've worked around these units for years and they make for good sound. It's amazing how resistant to clothing rustle and other anomalies they are. I've used cheaper wired lavs and if they are not positioned just so, they can drive you insane trying to get clean audio. However, as bullet-proof as these units appear, the first one B & H shipped me was a dud. It seemed to only work when it felt like it. But I requested a replacement and, of course, B & H responded with their usual fantastic customer service. The second unit worked like it should (or at least it has so far). I'm sure it will be fine. As an aside, I do like the newer style phantom capsule. On the older versions, you could insert the 357 (LR44) battery the wrong direction. It appears they've keyed the opening so that can't happen anymore. You still need a T-pin to remove it, but that part is almost romantically a Tram feature. ... More

I got these to use them under clothing. The kit given doesn't seem to offer those capabilities, had to re-invent a method. To my surprise the (TD) Tape Down is the most useful of the items for that purpose, u can even put another one on top of it, binding skin and cloth together where the mic is not touching any of its bordered surfaces. Price is excellent for the quality and practicality. Other microphones are well on the competitive level, but not for the price. On the pickup side, they give great sound. they are well worth the money spent. PS: i got a big skin Band-aid and and glued it to the TD with the mic on all facing the clothing side inside towards the outside. No clothing sound ( I mean NO clothing sound at all) Happy to purchase them. These are industry standards and whomever you tell you got trams is directly impressed. ... More

These mics are good when they work. I bought two of them at the same time and used them for a wedding a month or so later and found out that one of them was defective. BH told me I was past my 30 days warranty and I had to contact TRAM. TRAM has no phone number for CS on their website. BH gave me a number to call but I have received a voicemail the last 3 days. I will never purchase a TRAM product again.

I am a professional videographer doing weddings, conferences, events, short films, etc. I use these on a regular basis with my Sennheiser wireless kits. I have attached a photo showing a comaprison of the TR-50 to the Sennheiser ME2 and Rode smartLav+. All 3 files were recorded with the lavs in the same position and distance from the source. The TR-50 has such a crisp audio file, with no excess noise. Well worth the money. The other two do a good job, the Tram just does an exceptional one!

I'm a local DJ who also provides live sound for ceremonies. Every set of lavaliere mics I've tried were great for recorded audio but had a terrible amount of feedback. I've been through the ME2 mics that come with the Sennheiser EW100 wireless packs and the Countryman B6. Both proved rather useless when it came to live sound. The Tran TR50 on the other hand has a nice flat natural sound that required very little EQ to prevent feedback. The Cable is very sturdy and should provide years of use. I LOVE these mics! The only drawback is they are a bit larger than I'd like, but with creative placement that problem is soon remedied. ... More

I'd heard great things about these lav mics, I bought two, and they did sound great. But both failed after less than an hour's use. The cords had suffered internal wire separation. On one, it was a failure right at the jack, as it would come on and off if you wiggled it there. The other just went dead, probably at the same place, but no amount of wiggling could make it live again. For the price, these should be more robust.

This mic will work with the ROLAND R-05 without phantom power or extra adapter power. All you have to do is turn on the PLUG in POWER in the menu settings. Also do this next step.. On the r-05 you can change the plug in power voltage from 0.9 volts to 1.2 volts. There is a hidden menu you can access by pressing the AB/Split button together with the Menu button. It will display what looks like the normal menu screen but with an extra option choice #8 that says Special Setup. Mic Bias which is default set to *0.9 v change it to 1.2v SO THIS WILL GIVE YOUR TRAM TR50 MORE POWER ... More

I've used Tram mics for 15 years and they are rally the best lavaliere mics out there. They are very discreet and the best for gathering sound in the worst conditions. My big problem with this one, which I haven't experienced with the previous ones, is the lapel/tie clip. When I took it out of its case and threaded the mic cable through it the clip part broke off even before the mic reached it. They clips I've had before were pretty rugged considering what they're made of. This one was less than useless. The mic is the best and the clip is the worst ... More

I use Tram 50's in corporate and narrative film-making. I have had several of them and I like the flat, rich response they produce. It matches well with boom mics. I don't care for the sound of mics that are enhanced in certain frequencies because, even though they may sound good on some people and in some situations, they tend to create problems with others depending on the voice. In addition, I want to be able to adjust EQ in post, and not have it burned into the original recording. These mics are also quiet and produce minimal rubbing noise. I have had one Tram stop working - probably due to a break in the wire. Talent can be hard on wireless mics and it's best to tell them to let you remove the mic because they tend to tug hard when trying to pull them out of their shirt. ... More

I've only used Sony and Sennheisers before and this is great. Neat small and rugged carry case for the lav and all accessories. Run on small calculator type batteries if no Phantom power is available. Great sound. Shot on a building where there was cell phone equipment and the camera front rifle mic was buzzing furiously (From a Sony dsr-450). The Tram had no problem at all and there was no interference at all. Practice with yourself using the vampire clips before puncturing your interviewees. They are good but its easy to stab ones self or wreck clothes.

I used to work with Tram TR50 mics years ago. The company I work for bought several Sennheiser Evolution 100 G3 Wireless system which came with a ME2 omnidirctional condenser mic. After one or two years of continual use, those mics eventually died. I recently purchased two Tram TR50 microphones with the 1/8 connectors to go with my Sennheiser systems. What a great mic! Great tonality, rugged, easy to use. The TR50 comes with several clips and other clip options from the B&H website.

I'm using this microphone for filming and videoing one-on-one interviews, and I've been very happy so far with the TR50. It sits very well against clothing (I use the clip-on piece). The sound is very clear, crisp and clean, there is very little clothe sound interference, and doesn't seem to pick up small cable movements. It does pick up ambient noise, so try to minimize those. The microphone is surprisingly light, so doesn't drag down light fabric clothing. The carrying case is very compact and lightweight. Yup, so far, it's great.

We use a pair of these for capturing dialog for educational video. The output is fairly low, so the camera and mixer self-noise become more of an issue. I have used these for voice-over work as well. Will work in a pinch, mounted on a small foam block using the vampire clips. Stuffed the other end of the block in between the knobs of my small-format mixer and let the talent do his thing. The sound came out clear and intelligible, but with nowhere near the punch and authority of a large diaphragm condenser. No problem, it was not designed to produce that sound, and did quite well regardles. ... More

The Tram is a great mic. I used to use these 20 years ago at another company. Since starting my own company I have been using the supplied mic with a Sennheiser Series 100 wireless. That mic got damaged and I bought the Tram while waiting for the Sennheiser to be replaced. Good frequency response and a multitude of mounting options that come with it including the excellent vampire clip for hiding the mic when necessary.

This microphone delivers INCREDIBLE sound quality. The accessories that come with it enable it to be used for a variety of positions. It's hard to see it with a clip, which is fantastic. What beats all however is the sound quality. VERY crisp and clear, as if the person was right in front of you. It's not the cheapest, but definitely worth every penny if you want EXCEPTIONAL audio quality.

I have over 14 years in film production doing commercials for businesses, event videography, short films, ....ect. For this price point they are the best I've used, and a standard in the industry. Buy them you won't be dissapointed. I recently used them for a wedding and put one on the groom and it even picked up the brides vows extremely well. Has a great tone out of the box, not needing much touch up in post at all, no high end hiss...amazing!

Im a sound recordist, sound technician, boomswinger, sound mixer, sound man, you get the picture and I used the tram TR 50's on a recent feature film for five weeks. NOT ONE russle from clothing against mic and skin was heard because the mic itself is so conveniently placed in its cradle. Also no wind was detected at all when we were shooting external scenes and this was without the wind jammer. The trams are brilliant for features, dramas and commercials. Highly recommended.

I use these TR50 microphones with a Zoom H4N recorder to create an independent sound track for video/DVD production and I find they work very well indeed. Small negative point is that the microphone XLR connector is quite large/bulky and when the mic(s) are connected to the H4N recorder, the connector(s) hinders concealment of this portable recording unit when it is strapped/attached to your body.
