Huge storage at a great price
I use this drive to store my media files (movies, TV shows, music, etc.) as well as my computer backup and it should be a while before I run out of space. The drive was easy to connect and was recognized by Win10 without issues. There are only two minor things I've noticed and they are not really problems. Good package but very noisy
Good price and specs in a solid package. The main issue is that it is a very noisy drive. Bought it to backup videos and images, so it does the job well.

Watch out for formatting
No problem with B&H - excellent as always. Drive hums louder than my other WD 8T (different model). Main problem was my computer (HP/Win7) would not boot with the drive connected. A little research told me it was trying to boot from this drive. It was formatted exFAT and while I could find no evidence that this would cause the computer to want to boot from the drive, I reformatted it to NTFS and it is now working. Too soon to comment on reliability but so far, so good.

Hooked on WD drives, but...
Buy one formatted for your particular platform. Although that in itself is a challenge as well if your system is only slightly dated. Because I refer their products to my clients, clients who aren't so eSavy, the hoops I had to jump through to format this drive for my mac was so PC. I know they would have great difficulty formatting the drive. For Mac: They assume everyone uses Apple's newest OS. So, if you don't, then you've got to wipe it and format it for your particular platform. It didn't make sense for it to be so convoluted a process. But, I would still buy WD products over all others.

Sweet, but one missing feature
Can't beat the price for a lot of storage, but I just wish it had a power switch. But I understand most if not all WD drives are missing this feature, so I guess I can't be picky.

4TB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive
Set-up was quick. Runs smoothly, no problems. I wish the newer model had an indicator light, like the older version to let you know that it is running.

Not Mac friendly at all!
The drive would constantly disconnect on it's own. I would have to re-start my computer and even then it mostly would not mount. I re-formatted the drive 2 times yielding the same results. I read similar reviews regarding this issue. I will be returning mine tomorrow and unfortunately have to upgrade to the double wide WD 8TB at $100 more : (

Noisy But Nice!
I purchased this drive to back up an extensive photographic library. It's a solid drive for a very reasonable price. It is noisy, but the din serves as the only indication that the drive is operating properly (no indicator lights). Bottom line: a solid drive for a great price.

Excellent value TBs/$
Great for storing my photos. Seemed slow to migrate all my files but I may not have used the best method. Wiped out the included software when I reformatted it.

Linux friendly drive
Drive comes with software for managing it on Windows and (I think) Apple, but I deleted the partition(s), threw a BTRFS on it, and it was happy as a clam.

Wouldn't buy again
Very slow and found it to make many concerning noises. I'm no expert, but it just doesn't seem like the best option out of all the drives that are out there. It does seem to work, but it has trouble mounting to computers, both my MacBook Pro and iMac take 3-4 minutes to show the icon on the desktop and connect.

Like WD drives, have several. All but this one had a indicator light which told me that it was powered up. I miss the light. I also miss the power switch which is no longer on WD drives (I like to turn on only the drives I need when I need them.) Didn't find an installation guide nor the Mac software. IF it was on the drive, it went when it was initialized so I could use it. Have 4.4TB on it and it is working just fine.

Adding One More to the Family
I have a slew of WD hard rives - the 1TB Passport, 2 x 5TB Elements, a 6TB My Book, and now the 8TB My Book. Each has been a faithful workhorse, even with a recent little hiccup. Solid backup/storage solution at a reasonable price
I've used internal WD drives for years now and they have always been quick and reliable. This is the first external drive I've purchased, though I've used build-your-own external solutions before. I bought this as a backup-only drive and I'm not nearly as concerned about response time or transfer speed as other reviewers seem to be. Solid performance and quality

System backups
We have been using MyBook 4T drives for our network backups for 3 years with no issues. We have out grown the 4T so we moved to the 8T. So far they are just as reliable.

The Best
I've always been a fan of Western Digital hard drives for over 10+ years, and this is one is one of their best. For being 8TB, the price is amazing. But most importantly, it's super reliable and very fast at USB 3.0 speeds. I'm definitely looking to buy another one as a backup to this one.

Seems to work fine
Hooked this up and transferred 1 Tb to it as third backup for my photos. Did not install any of the software that comes with as I already use WD Acronis True image for my system backups. So far working fine.

Good drive
You can get a seagate for cheaper with extra USB ports but they fail a lot. I bought 20 WD and 3 seagate drives over the years. 2 seagates failed. All WD drives still running.

Good but worrying.
I have a lot of external hard drive but this one (quite new) worries me. So far speeds are 100mbps speed which is pretty sweet mostly. But when I transfer small files sometimes it slow down to a few kbps for some reason. But the one big issue was that it makes screechy noises sometimes and it kinda make me think there would be hard drive failure. It still works as it is but that doesnt sound good. I stand by on WD hard drive since I have a few of them along with Seagates.
