Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC Lens For Sony A

Great Build. Poor Quailty Control.
1. Camera battery went down to zero over night. This happened two times on my 5DMIII 2.One forth of left side of image was very very blury. Top right corner was also blury. 3. Infinity focus was at the 1.5 ft. mark? 4. Build quality is good. Too bad Rokinon cannot get it right. At the very least, they should check their product before they send it out. Very disappointed. I bought this lens because I have read that it has very little coma. I was planning to use it for Milky Way Night Sky Photography. I have been photographing for 55 years. Been a Canon user for 25 years.

Exceptional wide angle lens
This is an excellent lens, if you want to get into wide angle shooting this is the absolute best choice for the money in my opinion. The chip communicates with my D810 nicely, but even with focus confirmation there is a small range of focus that is indicated as acceptable. To be sure of your focus the 100% zoomed in live view is the way to go. Build quality is excellent and the cap while bulky gives good protection. I find it's easy to stash it under my arm while shooting. All in all I love this lens, nice sharp images and easy to use if you don't mind manual focus.

Excellent manual lens
I'm no professional and wanted a cost effective lens that I'll enjoy shooting landscapes and nightscapes with on my backcountry trips, this thing exceeded expectations! The customer service rep on B&H chat quickly answered my questions and made it super easy to purchase with confidence. It's fully manual which for me adds to the fun and process but takes a little getting used to. It feels solid and well made. If you're on a budget but enjoy shooting everything from the Milky Way to extreme close ups of your pets face then you will have great fun with this lens.

Difficult to focus
One thing I didn't realize is that you need the eyes of an eagle to manually focus a super wide angle lens. It pushes you so far back it's hard to tell whether the details are sharp or not. Even using live view, I couldn't get my copy of the lens sharp. Giving three stars because some of this was probably user error on my part, but my picture quality was 1 or 2 stars. Also quite a bit of distortion on objects very close to the lens, but getting really up close to objects is one of the things you want to do most with a wide angle, so that was disappointing too.

Perfect Wide Angle Lens!
I use this lens for video and photography. I was impressed that 14mm wide lens practically does not have any distortions of subjects that I'm filming or photographing. For some reason the exposure simulation works only in video mode on my Canon camera. This lens is fully manual and you have to set everything manually, your camera doesn't communicate with the lens, however I'm into it, I love it! When I first got into photography back in 1998, my first ever camera and a lens was fully manual and mechanical, didn't require any batteries or memory cards :-)

Perfect wide angle lens! It's cheap too
This is probably the best and cheapest wide angle I've ever had. And also the widest I have! At first I was kinda unsure about using a pure manual lens. It turns out going manual with landscape is far easier than I thought. I often use the Canon 17-40L and also shoot manual but I have the psychological assurance that I can shoot auto with it. I've taken a lot of great landscape photos with this Rokinon lens. It's worst side effect though is the distortion but it's fixable in LR or Camera Raw. It's hard to find filters that would match this lens though.

Best bang for the buck!
This is probably the best wide angle lens you can possibly buy for the money. Sure it's not Nikon quality but it sure is not over a thousand dollars either. Using it with a Nikon D750. In my opinion so far, the lens is nice and sharp. Manual focus is a learning curve but I'm overcoming it. There is distortion which is easily fixed in a lens profile easily available online. Overall I'm very pleased with this lens and have received many compliments on my photos that have been taken with it. It's a win-win with this lens. Buy it now and thank me later.

Good for the price
I have this on a 6D and it's pretty good even wide open. Just like most other reviews, it's hard to focus. My copy, the focusing ring is very close to the markings on the lens so that helps a lot. During the daylight hours, wide open is not the best but still good. At night it's great. The build seems solid and the focus ring is smooth. There are nice positive clicks in the aperture settings. My main reason in choosing this lens is the price, it's a fraction of what a L series lens is and for how much I will be using it, it's a smart choice for me.

picture is sharp
the picture is sharp and good for someone who need a wide angle on APC-S camera. I mount it on my 650D(T4i). probably going to need it when I upgrade to FF. but the build quality is not I was expecting. My camera fell from 2 feet above ground and the lens crashed on the ground with the cap attached. the cap and the hood is now broken. both are made of plastic. luckily, the lens was not scratched. so I am trying to glue everything back on. The focus ring is also a little bit tight after the accident. This is the worst experience I had with a lens.

Great lens for a great price.
If you're looking for a full-frame, wide angle lens for a reasonable price, look no further. It's not so wide angle that the image seems distorted, but it captures enough to make it a great lens for interior shots. I use it for photographing architectural interiors and it has eliminated the need to stitch multiple photos together in Photoshop. Now if I want an HDR panorama, I can jump straight to the HDR process. I do wish it had vibration reduction and autofocus, but for the price I would not expect those features. The build quality seems solid.

Good lens, have had no issues so far
I originally bought this lens for shooting the Milky Way with a Canon 5D Mark II. I have not had a chance yet to really test it for that application, but I have done some general landscape shooting with it and was very happy with the results. Distortion was not a major noticeable problem for me and what was there was easily corrected in LR. I have not tried shooting anything where distortion would be very noticeable. Image quality was good, lens build quality seems very good (better than I expected). So far no issues at all with this lens.

I got what I was looking for - thank-you Photog Adventures
I have been searching may night sky photographers and what lens they recommend, and I saw this one via Photog Adventures . I decided to take the plunge and purchased this for my Canon DSLRs ( 5,6,&7D models ) and am loving the results. The AE chip works wonderfully with the camera, as I certainly grew-up manually focussing and the beep alert is a nice touch. Very good results on sunsets - awaiting to use it for my Milky Way shots in a few weeks. I bought one for my friend who shots on a Pentax and he is enjoying the lens too. Great buy !

Great Lens
This is such a fun lens to use. Its my first ultra wide angle lens and its field of view is great for getting interesting shots. Focusing can be tricky, but that's more a camera and my eyes kind of a problem rather than the lens. No its not sharp in the corners, and neither are most lenses like this, but its crisp most of the way through once you're stopped down to f8-f11. The build quality is good and it feels nice and solid. The focusing ring is beautifully smooth and a joy to operate. All in all, for the money, you can't go wrong.

Great quality for a great price!
Opted for the Rokinon over the 14mm Canon L lens since this lens would be primarily for wide angle astrophotography, Milkyway, star trails, etc. When the version with the focus confirmation chip went on sale for not much more that the non chip version, I had to jump on the deal. I Haven't had a chance to shoot the Milkyway, but I did shoot an hours worth of star trails, and it worked well for fireworks too! Build quality seems pretty durable. I expected cheap plastic, but the lens is actually heavy. I'm pretty happy with the lens.

Nice lens for the price.
I haven't been able to test it out at night due to cloudy skies. I have tested it taking pictures of my dogs. One of which is a black lab so in low light conditions she can be difficult to get pictures of. This lens however, can get pictures of her.The only issue is a photographer who isn't used to manual focus. I am learning. So far I haven't taken any horribly out of focus or under/over exposed. I have been playing with this lens in manual mode. I can't wait for clear skies to test it at night. It is a great lens for the price.

At night, this cheapest lens in my set gets most action.
I use this lens mostly for night photography on my EOS 5DSr and LOVE it. While this isnt its only use - used it in city scapes, landscape, and some creative shots -, it outperforms my L-series glass when it comes to starry skies. Just use live-view focusing and a strip of gaffers tape to secure the focus ring while shooting through the night. I never noticed focus drift in cold nights (unlike some bigger lenses do). So far, only the Sigma 20mm ART lens compares in image quality, but not in price, weight, and viewing angle.

Good for the price
I used the lens recently for some astrophotography where I needed as much speed as possible. It was quite sharp at f/ 2.8 wide open, which made it worth the price for me. I wish it had autofocus, but for $325 I can't have everything, besides the hyperfocal distance of a 14 mm lens at f/2.8 is about 8 feet anyway, so maybe autofocus isn't that important. I did have to try twice to get a good lens. The first one I bought was soft at 2.8 so I returned it to B&H and they sent me a new one, no questions asked. Good service, B&H.

14 mm Rokinon for Nikon
I got this lens primarily for night (star) photography. One the plus side, the chip makes it a snap to change f/stops directly from the camera body. The focus ring has the right amount of stiffness so there is no drift. I find the lens to be extremely sharp. The only draw back, and it is not a short coming of the lens, when used on a cropped (DX) sensor, it is effectively a 21 mm lens, hence the narrower field of view and reduced depth of field. Using it as a landscape lens is not recommended, as it does not accept filters.

Great lens for the price
I've only had this a few weeks so I may update this review but so far I really like this lens. It's manual focus only which I discovered after the fact. But at 279.00, the alternative was the 1600.00+ Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8. It feels solid - more than I expected for this price. The focus and aperture rings are well made and the few images I've produced are sharp. Looking forward to some Milky Way and/or meteor shots in the future - that will be the true test of this lens for me. The image below was taken with a Nikon D800E.

Impressive, and a great price.
I have only had this lens for a few weeks, but I can give it 5 stars. I am impressed by its solid construction, super sharp, color neutral photos, and how well it mates/handles with my new K1. The fact that it's a manual focus lens does not bother me at all. It takes a little getting used to, but the lens works perfectly. By the way, buying from B&H is great. When I bought the lens it cost $399. Two weeks later the price dropped $30. One call to B&H and I got my refund with no problems. I very happy with this purchase.

You get what you pay for....
Please note, this seemed like a good idea, but it by no means feel like the high quality glass I am use to with Canon EF Series Full Frame Glass. This feels like a toy with no weight and the clarity and crispness I am use to is just not there. I give it two stars since for the price, you can't beat it. If you are shooting something that is a horror, grainy type film for independent films, this is a great option. If you are shooting a Drama, this is not the lens for you. You can't get the imagery you would expect.

Excellent lens wish had auto focus
This is excellent lens for the price. performs reliable time again. But I returned the lens for lack of auto focus. I am not a professional photographer but opted this lens just considering price. But I found it difficult to use this lens especially adjusting focus (most of my landscapes I used close to infinity).I would still recommend this for semi pro and pro. I feel the distortion is less compared to other wide angle , sharpness is simply great for the price and certainly something worth more than $ bucks

Bought it, tried it, returned it; terrible vignetting!
A friend has one of these, so I decided to try it although it would be the only non-Canon glass I have (I have all "L" lenses); the Canon in this focal length is just idiotically priced for no more than I would use it. When I got it my tests resulted in horrible vignetting. One expects some on a wide angle lens, but all but 30-40% of the image was affected with vignetting. I am not paid by Rokinon to do QA for them, so I suggest they hire more testers before shipping out rubbish such as this was!

Second one purchased
As I have recently moved into a full frame camera from a Canon 70d, I had to change from another Rokinon lens to this one. I never appreciated it as much as when we visited Big Bend National Park in Southwest Texas and realized what the sky really can look like outside of the city lights. This lens, at 2.8 f/stop, was great and allowed me to capture some truly memorable shots. Manual focus is not really a problem in astrophotography and that is the predominant use of this lens for me. And great price.
