MeFOTO BackPacker Travel Tripod (Titanium)

Very good for my my intended purpose
I intend to use this for audio recording outdoors. For mono pass bys, and AB stereo recordings with an additional mic on my other tripod (a very expensive carbon fiber Gitzo), it will be really useful. I could also see using it with a smartphone for photography. I'm thinking of buying a second one. For the price (it is on sale), it's good value. The key is to recognise the tradeoff with this tripod. It is extremely compact, but this comes at the ... Show More

Great for the roads--near or far
Really easy to use, intuitive, no need for the instruction booklet. Product was heavier than I thought considering it is marketed for backpacking. Although it's pretty compact. Better to have a sturdier product since why I purchased a tripod is for camera stability.Clever retractable spring-loaded weight hook at the bottom of the center column for things that you want to hang and not have on the ground. Great company, responsive when I called to ... Show More

wobbly legs
I got this to be able to carry a small tripod in my backpack rather than using my longer tripod, which requires a larger bag. However, this tripod has a major issue detailed below, followed by the pros: Cons: - very wobbly legs: the bottom legs are extremely wobbly and I would say that they are far too wobbly unless you are in an area that has no wind AND you use a remote trigger to take pictures. Otherwise, it is likely to move, even if you hang... Show More

Solid Performer
This is a nice travel tripod for the money. It's light weight, stable, has a decent ball head and comes with a nice carrying case. It also converts to a monopod which is an extra bonus. My main cameras are Sony's A7R and a6000 which work well with this tripod. I have also used my Canon 5D MKII with the Sigma 150-600 lens without any wobbles. There are many great tripod options available and I think it's real important for you to understand what y... Show More

This tripod rocks!!
I purchased this tripod in 2013. It was probably the best tripod I ever bought. The best part is that if folds up which makes for a lot of carry ability. The product itself is well made and all the pieces fit well and are fluid. This is an ARCA SWISS plate type. Love it. The platform that fits onto the camera itself does not have a D ring locking system, but this is not a problem since the screw can be removed easily and a D ring installed in its... Show More

I would buy this tripod again!
I ordered this tripod to take to Europe. Since it arrived I have been using it and am very satisfied with the weight, ease of set up and take down. Due to the light weight, which is a wonderful feature, I will always have my camera strap around my neck when the camera is positioned on the tripod. As advertised this tripod is not for heavy cameras. However, if you need a tripod for travel and your camera is within the limits stated in the specs I ... Show More

Travel tripod
I own an Induro tripod but when I decided to go to the Galapagos, I knew it would not make the trip. I bought this MeFOTO based on the recommendation of a friend in our photo club, and have been so happy with it. I love the size - folding down to about 12 so that it fits into my backpack, and whilst the legs have screw release knobs(I prefer the snap open and close) the screw release works well. The ball head is easy to use. I'm a novice at using... Show More

The best compact tripod there is
Purchased BackPacker about 18 months ago and continue to be impressed with this product. The miniature dimensions when folded were the purchase driver at the time, can carry this tripod in my backpack, which makes it easy to carry anywhere - bicycle, hiking. Since I mostly take train and landscape pictures, this tripod is essential. Using D7000 with mid-weight (f2.8/f3.5 zooms from Sigma) lens, BackPacker is sturdy and supports the weight comfort... Great build, but...
I had a MeFoto RoadTrip and hoped the Backpacker would be a great fit for backpacking - as the name suggests. The build quality is excellent. The head supports about 7 lbs, but that is sufficient for most camera/lenses on a hike. One shortcoming is that the minimum height is just under 18 inches. (The RoadTrip can go lower even though it is a larger tripod.) That means it will not be suitable for short wildflowers. I hope MeFoto will release a fi... Show More

Great little tripod
What a great little tripod! Super compact, perfect for a DSLR and relatively small lens, but I also use it with a Nikon D2x and a 70-200 2.8! Now off course in that case the tripod becomes more like a monopod and needs very careful handling to avoid movement or vibrations. I travel a lot and this fits in my carry on on flights. I am used to big carbon fiber tripods (Really Right Stuff and Gitzo) but when I want to move around super light this does the job nicely. The head is Arca Swiss plate compatible which is what I have on all my cameras. Great value, cute colors, get one!

Love this tripod!
I am an amauture photographer in the PNW and needed a light, compact, sturdy tripod that would withstand my abuse. The legs are study, and everything seems to flow together, like everybody else I don't like the twist locks but you can't have everything for this price. The head is quite stout I'm using a Nikon d5500 and it doesn't budge. Only complaint is that it only locks in two positions, I sometimes feel as though it could use a couple more options. All that Mefoto would have to do is notch in a few more clamp points. But other than that, my favorite tripod to date!!!*

Light but sturdy
I got this for use while backpacking in the outdoors. It's light but sturdy at the same time so what's not to like? I'm using it with my Sony a6300 mirrorless which is pretty light as well, no where near the 8 pound weight limit. If you are using it with a full sized DSLR, then definitely upgrade to one of the heavier weight tripods. But for mirrorless cameras, this tripod will definitely get the job done. Build quality is solid, the tripod head pans pretty smoothly, and the option to weigh down the tripod with the built in hook is much appreciated. Would buy again!

Great for Some, But Not for Me
Well, I returned it. I think it's a nice little tripod, and it might be good for backpacking (as it's name implies) but, for my purposes, it just seemed not quite sturdy enough....perhaps a bit flimsy. And I didn't like that the center post, even at it's lowest height, places the camera some distance above the legs (B&H's photos indeed show the center column at it's lowest position), which can be cause for instability and camera movement. Obviously, this is a very well liked tripod but, for me, there were better options out there and I went with one of them instead.

Compact Travel Tripod
I was looking to replace a broken Oben tripod that was lighter and folder smaller. The MeFoto Backpacker was on sale and fit my criteria. The arrived the next day with a manufactured defect. Called BH and shipped it back within a hour after arrival. The replacement arrived five days later. This is my first MeFoto tripod and was expecting better build quality control of the product. My intended use this tripod is to photograph trail building in the National Parks. It fits in my pack, lighter than my old tripod but a little to short for my 74 inch height.

Nice for travel
I bought this for family vacations, but find myself using it more and more. As a travel tripod, it has it's limitations. It's maximum height is not that impressive. And it is not a stable as I am used to with the heavier tripods I use for video production. That being said, it allowed me to produce a number of long exposure shots that I would not have otherwise been able to capture. And, it fits into my photo backpack easily. If this is going to be your only tripod, I would not recommend it. If this is a second tripod for travel, it fits the bill.

Sturdy and Compact.
I usually hike with a friend and like being able to take a group photo, especially when hiking to Verkeerderkill Falls in Sam's Point Preserve. It is an extremely rocky trail, often with running water in Spring and early summer. With a backpack for my camera gear and a MeFoto WalkAbout as a hiking staff I needed a compact yet sturdy tripod. The MeFoto Travel Tripod fills the need. It fits in my backpack with negligible additional weight and sturdy so I am confident in setting up for the group shot with the falls as a backdrop. Excellent product.

Light, small and versatile
I have a Sony A7RM2 with a Zeiss 16-35 or 90mm macro. When folded this tripod is small enough to stick through my belt and carry it at my side. My camera is in a Spider Holster on my other hip. This gives me perfect balance and great mobility. I also own the MePhoto Roadtrip tripod but it is too big to do the same thing. The Backpacker is not as solid as the roadtrip but also not as portable. I would use the roadtrip for long night exposures to be sure but the backpacker works great. I don't always extend the smallest legs to get more rigidity.

Stable, confy & almost lightweight
Bought this tripod as replacement for a really weak travel tripod when I was in NY. It works great with my d7100 and its lenses, feel strong enough to use in almost every situations...but you should remember the main use of it..do not use it on windy situations or similar. Extensions and locking legs system is quick and hard, comes with two leg angle positions, and extra length for the single bar. Head is great too, with dual control for rotating it, but i'm not still confy with the plate (arca style)...always check if it's fitted correctly.

Best tripod for the money
I do a lot of traveling through out the year for work, but my primary job is not photography so there isn't a need to have a ton of equipment. When traveling I tend to keep to carry on bags and a backpack to move quickly and hide the fact there is a lot of equipment with me. When I'm not traveling it's in the woods and up mountains I go and this tripod is super light to travel and hike with. I use a Nikon D3 with a Tokina 16-28mm lens and it holds it just fine. The only down fall is you can get super super low to the ground.

Terrific Tripod
Love this tripod. Have a heavy Manfrotto that I have been using for several years - also a great tripod for many photographic situations but not travel or having to carry around from site to site. The MeFoto has solved this problem. Have used it a couple of times and I am thrilled. I purchased a second quick release plate for my 2nd camera. I am so glad I did. I can easily stitch out cameras with ease. This is so compact that I plan on taking on vacation next year. Due to its light weight not suitable for windy conditions.

Great little work horse
I recently went on an east coast trip and stopped by B&H store to purchase a small travel size tripod and opt for this one. Its sturdy and love how it extends to a full size tripod and yet can fold down to fit inside my backpack. I have a larger tripod that I attach to outside of my camera bag and most of the time it catches things and always end up banging on everything next to it. Now with this compact tripod its my least worry. It also have a removable top you can attach to your camera and snaps right it in with ease.

Excellent tripod for travel
I took the chance & bought this tripod two days before a trip to New Orleans. B&H shipped it immediately and I got it in time. Here are a few pros: 1) tiny. Fit inside my small sling bag 2)nice materials. feels sturdy. looks great. 3)does the job. Steadied my GH4 with different lenses without a problem. Felt sturdy even at tallest setting. If youre on the fence, I'd get it. Very useful as a travel tripod. I have a main video tripod but I feel like I'd reach for the meFoto first cause of convenience/quick setup.

Fantastic Tripod
This is my favorite piece of kit. I do a lot of photography while hiking so I needed something compact and light weight that I could easily carry up a mountain. This tripod fit the bill and at a very budget friendly price too. It's not too heavy, folds up small and extends easily. It is nicely constructed and is plenty strudry. I find myself grabbing this tripod over my big bulky manfrotto even if I'm not hiking just because it's so easy to transport. As a good bonus, it comes with a nice sturdy carrying case!

Very Solid
This tripod sets up quickly and provides a solid platform for my Nikon Coolpix A. I love the head with the leveling bubble and the limitless amount of adjustments that the head provides. The unit packs neatly into its own bag and is very easily transported in your backpack or messenger bag.. Very Big little tripod. The only thing I would like is if it were a bit lighter... If that's so important spring for a CF one. This is a very versatile well built tripod for the price and I am very happy with my purchase.
