Switched from a Canon body to Sony and couldn't be happier

Sep 26, 2016

As a college student, I use this camera everyday. The low light capabilities are exactly what you think they are. It is fantastic and the ability to shoot 4K in Slog3 is incredibly useful. It is well worth the money, considering any Canon camera that comes close to any of the capabilities in the Sony a7s ii is upwards of $9,000. I cannot recommend this camera enough.

Pretty good

Nice body, fantastic video. Love the options it has for recording modes and such. Many customizable keys make me a happy camper. Video and pictures are sharp (12mp is just enough to quench my pixel peeping thirst). Only downside is the amount of dust that can creep on the sensor is astounding! Get a sensor bulb blower if you buy thid or any other mirrorless camera.

Great lowlight video camera

Dec 8, 2015

Purchased this for a documentary we are shooting. The image is relatively clean up to 32,000 ISO. Experienced a slight banding issue at higher ISOs shooting the sky at night. I am really enjoying the color rendition at night. You see this kind of color in high production nighttime aerial shots. One of my only complaints is the poor battery life. Lasts 45 mins max!

Game Changer

Great camera- from the sensor to the build and all the frame rates available to us, it was an easy choice. Using it with an Atomos to fully utilize its capabilities when filming- results are validation. Hard to get all these features at the the price point anywhere else. As a long time Canon user I was optimistic, but I quickly felt right at home with this camera.

Great Camera

May 22, 2016

A great camera, I primarily use it for video as a slider camera matched with my Sony PXW-FS7. Incredible images, takes a little to get used to. The menu system applies to both stills and video. However you cannot take a white balance while in video mode, you have to change it to manual then switch it back. Hopefully this will be resolved in a future update.

A great upgrade from the original.

Feb 23, 2016

I mainly use this for video, and it's all around a better camera than the original a7s. The body itself is easier to grip, the internal stabilization and 4k are fantastic additions, and more options for customizing buttons is great. On the photography side not much has changed, autofocus is still slow with a lens adapter, but image and low light are great.

Yes it is worth it.....I have not used A7S, but A7SII comes ready to deliver on same production values as any other expensive camera,FS 7,F55,F5 or even Arri Alexa...with SLOG 3 technology ..frOm experience, the IMAGE stood out on any screen even on IMAX....I wish SONY availed it the multi frame rates of my FS7......but that will be BAD BUSINESS for them...

Got it all, almost

Really beautiful picture, HD and 4k and a ton of options with the picture profiles, real pro - Love autofocus in video, and it is ok fast and exact with the right lenses. I use flexible spots, and if we were able to move it with a touch screen i would have given 5 stars, but there is different shortcuts in adjusting the buttons, to make it work eventhough.

Great Camera

Dec 23, 2016

Everything in this camera is great. The only thing I wish is that the colors were slightly more accurate (coming from Canon) but it's nothing that can't be fixed in post, just wish I could skip that step. However, the 4K is beautiful, stills are amazing, and lowlight is ridiculously good. The most perfect camera that currently exists at this price point.

Problems with this camera i am facing.

Oct 29, 2015

I am with Sony since 2011 always expect better and better from Sony. Already using A99, A7r2, A7s and now its A7s2. Quality no question about it. But please note the problems i am facing with this camera. 1. 2.2x centre crop when you shooting 120fps. Example if you using 10mm lens it will act as its 22mm. 2. You can't use APSC lens when u shooting 4K.

No overheating

Nov 8, 2015

Got the camera and ran a few tests, shot it in 4K at the highest bitrate and no overheating. Made it for the entire 30 minute record rescriction. I didn't do a second test after that though. The camera was a little hot to touch. One downside is the 2x crop when shooting at 120fps it's a bummer but no real deal breaker there. Crazy awesome camera!

Pretty amazing

Jan 3, 2017

I am a video guy, so I almost never take photos. This works great with 4k with focus assist. I wish the screen were bigger but I guess if you are doing a bigger production you would have a monitor. The negatives are that this thing eats batteries especially when recording video. Literally about a hour per battery. This is the future, Mirrorless.

Love My Sony a7S ii

May 11, 2017

Perfect for my needs. Wedding and event filming, plus a couple music videos and shorts here and there. The ability to shoot 4K of course is great. The stabilization is great. And it is fantastic, of course, in lowlight. Using a lens adapter can start to get tricky (autofocus is not as tight), so I recommend keeping it simple with native lenses!

YAAAAAS

This camera is absolutely gorgeous. From dynamic range to resolution to low light to weight to customizability... this piece of work gets it all done. Shooting with a varrio tessar zeiss f/4 16-35 mm lens is a blast. Working with purely 4k video capturing breathtaking imaging is unreal. This camera is going to take my videos to the next level.

Great camera for video and photo

Jul 22, 2016

Bought this camera for it's size and ability to shoot 4K and have the flexibility of photos as well. It's primary use is video, though, as I'd use a Canon Mark iii for photos. The quality is great. Battery life is less than other DSLRs I've used, but it can charge on a Micro USB which is very nice if you can rig a portable battery with it.

Great for weddings and uncontrollable light situations

Oct 26, 2016

Though the megapixels are about a third of its brother, the A7Rii, the 'S' kills the 'R' in video and low-light sensitivity. The footage generally has a yellow tone to it, so I drop this somewhat in post. Best option is to shoot in log or cinegamma4 so you have a flatter image that protects highlight roll-off and shadows. Great camera!

Love the camera but a big learning curve

Dec 8, 2015

Order a neutral density filter when you buy a A7sii if you are using outside. Practice using as many functions as you can to prevent embarrassment. Get a small flash- you want to use this in traditional family party settings.. No one understands what you are getting excited about with its lowlight capabilities.. Order a lager eyecup.

Perfect addition

Feb 15, 2016

This camera is the perfect addition to my gear. I also have a 5dmiii. I bring this camera out when I want to shoot 4K, or in low light situations where I don't have lighting equipment. Although I haven't tested it out in daytime, I'm giving this camera 5 stars based off of the great image it's gotten for me in low light situations.

One of the best Sony cameras.

Dec 5, 2016

Not without its quirks, but this camera offers incredible bang for the buck. The 4k image is beautiful, the HD is great too, and the dial/menu/modes are easily accessible when you set them up properly, meaning you can go from 120fps in HD to 4k and back easily without needing to spend minutes diving through menus. Great camera!

Ive had a canon 60D camera for 7 years and its intact! a 60D, and this one that was supposed to be great breaks with nothing... not cool.

BEYOND STATE-OF-THE-ART

Far superior to my excellent Sony NEX 7, the new Sony A7S II (coupled with a Sony/Zeiss 55mm lens) delivers portraits, nature still life's and even 4K videos of my grandchildren at play that astound all viewers. Though technically sophisticated, this instrument is easy to set up and use. I cannot recommend the A7S II enough!

Made me switch from Canon for video

Dec 4, 2016

Still amazed at the features that come in this little camera. Love the size and weight! Love the video features! And I particularly love how much customization you have over the controls. It really does allow you to get to things quickly. I'm keeping my 5DM3 for stills but this is my video platform now. Highly recommend.

Great Camera, Hard to Handle, Eats battery power like candy

Oct 24, 2017

I use this camera more for video than still photography. For that purpose, it is terrific. However, I plug in my Atmos Ninja blade to shoot 4K. The menu is a little overcomplicated, the design is a little clunky, but what the camera and lens can do is amazing. When the upgrade comes, I'll sell this for the next one.

Great Camera, don't buy for Slog-3

Feb 27, 2016

everything I read online was very true, except the only thing i am not very impressed with is slog-3. it is very noisy, and exposing 2 stops over every time will blow out highlights, making the dynamic range equivalent of the regular cine profiles. other than that, love the camera and would reccomend it to anyone!
