i bought this mic for my husbands birthday present. this mic is just plain awesome, upgraded from a Sure SM 58, this mic has the best clarity, you can hear every word and note as clear as a bell, didn't realize how muddy every other mic sounded until this one!! not to mention the look is HOT! one trip to Sun Studios and he knew this is the one he wanted just for the look, we thought it was a little pricey at first but the sound quality is so good the price is worth every penny. he plays classic rock, country , alternative and it works great for all, no feed back! buy it , you'll love it! ... I was truly impressed when the functionality of this device matched if not outshined it elegant design. The style speaks for itself. I tend to play blues / oldies so the tone this mic produces is perfect, however I would not advise for use with hard rock or heavy metal as distortion may cause feedback.

i bought this mic about a week ago from GC Clearwater and I have to say that I am truly impressed! I have used SM 58's forever and I wanted to go a different direction. I wanted to break out of the box. Guitar players have so many options to look different.. What do vocalists have?????? The Super 55! As good or better than the Beta series! If you want to be different and still have great quality. Get this mic!!!

I wasn't sure about buying this mic at first, because I always wanted the popular Shure 58. I would switch form the Shure 57 and Audix 05 for my gigs, and both mics work well, but the look of the Shure 55 is what sold me. Sure enough the sound is attractive as it's appearance, and I have received many compliments about both. If you care about the presentation of the band, GET IT! The sound quality is outstanding as well, you won't regret it!

So it looks great, but does it sound great? More importantly, is the sound worth the price? Yes and Yes. For a dynamic microphone, this microphone exhibits unusual clarity and shine. And although not too many passive dynamic microphones cost this much, this microphone is worth it, both for it's durability and sound. Now the downside is that it cannot be used for anything but vocals, due to it's tuned frequency response. For a microphone this good looking, I doubt you'd want this thing down by your amp cabinet, but still, for this price, it's a one-trick pony. If live, studio, or broadcast vocal sound that can kill, and an attractive package is your need, then get this microphone. ... More

It has very good rear rejection. But not as good as the 5575LE. But, it sounds great right ought of the box. In fact, you can just about level your EQ to flat and you won't add or take away much of the frequency. This mic has good gain before feedback. It sounds great playing my harmonica in front of it. And even with high frequencies of the harmonica it resists feedback very well. It has a really tight dynamic range. In my opinion, the Beta 57 sounds just as good. So, if you have a Sultry Lady singing Sexy music, she needs one of these to complete the picture. Hey, we all know, perception is a big deal on the stage. But, even still, it's a great buy for the sound and quality. It's hyper cardioid, so you have to stay on axis or only ever so slightly off side to keep down the plosives. But, that's just good mic technique and everyone knows this. Proximity effect is noticeable, but we also know how to use that to our advantage as well. ... More

I bought the special edition Black and red version of this mic and never got to use it until recently. No one really needs to tell you how great it looks with its durable and rugged black metal frame and Powerful red foam to compliment the color scheme. I can say comfortably that i payed for the quality of sound in this mic and the look was just a nice sales tactic. i don't think nice mics have on off switches but that would have been nice but that's like my only complaint.

A vastly improved classic microphone

This mic essentially has the same super-cardiod capsule as the Shure Beta 58a. This allows the mic to rejects feedback and achieve far higher gain before feedback than the Shure 55 II. The mic has a classic vocal mic boost and produces a great vocal sound. The mic case work is extremely well finished and the mic is very heavy and only appropriate for stand use. If you want a classic mic look coupled with a very high quality capsule, this is likely your best option.

I've had a Shure 55 type 2 for years which is an excellent mic. I now have a Super 55 and have made some comparisons. The Super 55 provides better feedback rejection, lower distortion, considerably more gain, and a slightly higher high frequency extension. It's an excellent mic.

I've long loved my Beta 58. If someone's voice is really beautiful then I think a condenser sounds better, but a supercardioid dynamic is perfect for me. This mic is basically just a Beta 58 (same capsule inside I'm told), with sexier packaging. The only thing about it is that it does indeed struggle with plosives (as you've probably read before). I put a little extra foam inside it and that helped a good bit, but it still struggles with the plosives more than a Beta 58. But I've naturally adapted to this--I find myself subconsciously turning my head a tiny bit off axis sometimes. The mic really is gorgeous, and for the one man act that I am it does impress enough to keep it over the slightly cheaper Beta 58. It really does look good when there's a light on it! Anyway--great mic. Basically a better looking Beta 58 that has a bit of a struggle with plosives, but in my context is totally worth it. ... More

Only had it a short time, but I know two other people who use this microphone in clubs and it always performs well. Works great for a duo, a lot of sound and doesn't tend to feed back. Used for two band practices so far and it performs well and sounds great. Already had an incident - a band member packing up accidentally tugged on the cord and the stand came down. Doesn't seem to have affected the mic at all. I bought this for my daughter, who is a singer in my band, and she loves the vintage style.

I will always have a Super 55 Dynamic Microphone.

This is for me the best microphone ever made. I play alot of Elvis, old southern gospel, oldies and country music. I feel like I am at the Sun Recording Studio in Memphis with Sam Phillips at the controls. This mike takes all sounds to another level and you dont have to be right up on the mike. I love reverb when I sing and this mike brings the reverb to a level that cant be matched. For me this is it !!

Would be 5 stars, but I haven't put this on stage yet. I'm sure it will merit the 5th star, but until I use it on a gig.... So, I had my good ole sm58 on one stand and the super 55 on another - controls set flat. The 55 is the clear winner. Clarity is terrific - better high end than the 58, and as I pulled the vocals into a softer tone, the 55 kept them clear - 58 was muffled and lost. Price is expected for such quality.

What a gorgeous microphone!! I'm a professional musician who has always used a Beta 58 and never thought twice about using otherwise until a sound guy at one of our shows offered to let me try the Super 55 Deluxe. The sound quality is just as great as the SM58 if not better, but what made me very happy is that I have a MUCH better response when using the Super 55 along with my TC Helicon VoiceLive 2 harmonizer. It registers my voice a WHOLE LOT BETTER and therefore generates a lot tighter and better sounding two and three-part harmonies for my performances. All this plus the added benefit that the microphone is just a GORGEOUS tribute to the golden era of the 50s and the perfect companion to my collection of Gretsch hollow body guitars. No cons to this product whatsoever!!! ... More

First things first buy a pop filter for studio use because this mic will make P's and B's sound like a bomb going off on a vocal take. Aside from that this mic gives off a ton of great vibes and cancels out the rest of the band perfectly. Also If you have a singer that can sing really loud it is worth wile plugging this thing up to a colorful preamp. The saturation and distortion you can get on your vocal tone is almost motown. Long story short BUY one and a good pop filter I'm slowly falling in love with this mic and plan on buying at least one more. ... More

Great mic which doesn't pick up unwanted sound from the band, but picks up vocals cleanly without having to get right on it. However, it does have a "threshold" break point where if you run the volume high so it picks up well from 6" or so and then you get very close to it the output volume increases dramatically to the point of distortion. Then again, I have only used the mic for a few hours with the band so I'll probably get used to not getting right on it like I always have had to with my old Shure Super Pro and SM58. ... More
