Best quality for price video camera of 2017

Jul 29, 2017

The Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5 is everything I could have hoped for. I am extremely content with purchasing this camera and overall this camer excels where more expensive cameras can't compare. The GH5 does what I expect it to do. It is extremely reliable and tough. I have owned this camera 1 month now and I have filmed with it in the African Bush, in the snow and in the rain and it runs seamlessly. I paired by GH5 up with the Rokinon 12mm T2.2 Cine ... Amazing Camera - Hard to believe!

Sep 1, 2017

I have owned 19 Sony cameras in 21 years. This GH5 was the very first non-Sony camera I have owned in all this time. This GH5 is mind-blowing. It's 10bit 4:2:2 HDMI out is spectacular. It's 5k sensor readout produces FAR more 4k detail than the GH4. It's literally as detailed as Sony's A6300 in 30p. Yes,...it resolves THAT much detail. The new Firmware 2.0 is going to make this camera even more insane. 6k, full sensor anamorphic 4:3 recording?...... Show More

Wonderful Camera

Jun 1, 2017

This is a truly wonderful camera. Once you make some adjustments to the AF settings, it works much better; not SONY better, but better. AF is the weakest thing about this camera. The menus are average as far as ease of getting through, but once you learn where things are you can get to them much faster. LOVE the touch screen that makes inputting settings a breeze as well as touch focusing. Post focus is amazing... choose your focus point AFTER yo... Show More

Best In Class!

Oct 20, 2017

For years I've used Canon APS-C cameras and lenses. And, like a lot of people, I was holding out for Canon to do something to compete with the current wave of 4K capable hybrid cameras. I was also hoping to move up to a full frame camera, so the idea of going to a micro four thirds Panasonic system was hard to wrap my mind around. But now that I finally pulled the trigger, I am really happy I did. The combination of features, build quality, ease ... Show More

Although I bought this with the intent to use it for videography, because of its video capabilities, I was pleasantly surprised at the stills the camera is capable of producing. The noise is minimal even for a MFT sensor. Definitely a run and gun camera or probably the best overall camera. If your intent is capturing video, but want to be able to take excellent stills, you should consider this camera. It may not take 50mp stills, but it'll take r... Show More

I'm producing cooking and exercise videos for a couple of friends to put on their web site to support a book they are writing on nutrition, exercise and cooking. I'm shooting in cine-d 4k 420 8bit 150MB. My rendered videos are 1080p. I set the GH5 up, start it with a full view of my entire scene. After that I pick up my Canon 6D to do roaming 'B' roll shots. Great Camera! Great Lens! Kitted Card Cant Do 400Mbps

Dec 4, 2018

I am really enjoying this setup. The body itself is all around fantastic and a joy to use. The lens is great as well. The case is basic, however functional, cant complain about that. The only possible gripe is that the card that came shipped with it isnt fast enough to do the 400Mbps video. Its a v30 where at least v60 is required to pull that off. To be fair this is a more recent feature of the body, and before then, the v30 would have been fi... Show More

It came with a learning curve for me. But after a few YouTube videos I was on my way. The image stabilization was the big selling point us because it was purchased for a jib. However, the 10 bit for 4K only works at 30fps, but someday I hope they will make a model with 4K 40 bit, 60 fps camera. Amazing Camera for Filmmaking

May 29, 2017

In my opinion the only things holding this camera back from being near perfect are the auto-focus and low light capabilities. The auto-focus isn't an issue because I focus manually most of the time anyway, which is easy to do thanks to the camera's focus peaking. And low light can be fixed with a relatively cheap lighting set up or with the help of some of the more expensive lenses on the market. The camera also has a built in histogram and zebra... I was going to hold off on upgrading from my GH4 to a GH5 because I was still really content with my GH4. After doing a little more research, I decided to make the jump. The main reasons I decided to upgrade to the GH5 was for the in-camera stabilization and the frame rate increase from 96 to 180 in 1080p. I've had the camera for 2 days now and I am very impressed. Great, but has a significant downside for video

May 30, 2017

I started to enjoy this camera very much, despite that it wouldn't work with my Metabones adapter for Nikon lenses (I only own one Panasonic lens). However, the Metabones incompatablity is nearly a show stopper. But, what was a show stopper was the auto-focus hunting during video record. You can't see the problem until you begin recording. Obviously, this is not acceptable. Unfortunately, I will return the camera until both problems can be resolved. (For Metabones users, Metabones did not reply to two separate emails asking if a solution was in the works for Nikon lenses and the GH5.)

Nothing Better for the Price

May 19, 2017

This camera is by no means perfect for video (what else would anyone purchase it for?) but it is the absolute best you can get anywhere close to this price. Pros: High frame rates, internal stabilization, full sized HDMI, greatly improved image from the 4, higher bit rates and 422 color. Cons: Noise in low light (better than the 4), very noisy at higher ISO (no point going above 1600), watch out for some weird artifacting when combining internal stabilization with lens stabilization and camera movement (note- I'm using an older model Lumix 14-140, so this could be part of the issue).
