I'm the proud owner of both vintage 35mm and medium format Gitzo tripods that I purchased in 1978... and they still work beautifully. Yet I wanted a ball head and something lighter for landscape photography. Both the Mountaineer Series 3 tripod and head are fine... ok. Best Tripod Ever
This is by far the best Tripod I've ever purchased. In the past 6 years I have had 5 different tripods,and I'm happy to say this one I'm keeping. I use it for city and landscape photography and it works great for both. Its light enough to carry for hours in the outdoors and hiking up and down mountains, and the twist locks legs are great compared to the clamp locks that I always had sand and dirt collecting in them.

Tripod
I use the tripod for a 4x5 view camera. Light weight, solid on the ground, easy to expand the legs and screw locks are tight without having to force it. easy to carry. Great product. Minimal gizmos on it and it works beautifully, smoothly, solid on the ground with legs at different heights and a heavy camera. Stays steady. Well worth the investment if you intend to do this for a long time or as a professional.

Buy Well Once
It's a Gitzo -- not much more needs to be said. I had a Gitzo 2 series that was perfect for what I needed. When I added some longer, heavier lenses to my bag, I decided to move up to a 3 series. Gitzo makes great tripods -- this should be the last one I'll ever need (which is what I thought when I bought the 2 series!).

Best tripod that Ive owned.
Easily handles heaviest gear that Ive placed on it so far (gripped D500 Nikon w/Nikkor 200-500mm). Seems solid & stable. Found no sign of vibrations in photos. Extremely well made & works smoothly with no issues so far. Wish that Id bought this one years ago & skipped the ones that I did.
