Epson Metallic Photo Paper Luster (8.5 x 11, 25 Sheets)

Excellent metallic photo paper
I feel I have to write this review for two audiences. The first audience is those of you who have never tried a metallic inkjet paper before and are curious about them in general, and the second audience of course is those who have used other brands of metallic inkjet paper before and are interested in how this Epson version is. I've been doing some test printing with this paper in a few sizes including 17x22 and as a comparison, I've been printi... Show More

Amazing Prints
This paper is extraordinary with the right subject matter. The images seem 3 dimensional and really pop just like commercially printed metallic prints. But it's effect isn't apparent on all images. It's difficult to explain which images work best but you'll get the hang of it after a few tries. I am using the paper on an Epson XP-15000 which has the T312/T314 Claria Dye cartridges. With that combination I am getting dry prints in ... Show More

Best For B&W Prints
I ran a comparison of the Epson Metallic vs the Epson Premium Glossy on two different photos - one in vibrant color and the other a high contrast B&W. The printer used was the new Canon ImagePROGRAF Pro-1000. As a professional photographer who has printed thousands of inkjet prints my trained eye could not distinguish a significant diffference in contrast and color saturation/luminance in the color comparison. However, in the B&W comparison the i... Show More

It's ok
I was looking for another option related to the epson exhibition fiber in which epson suggested I try the new metallic papers. The paper I feel is very similar to the smooth pearl from ilford. It is very white which is good in a sense where it holds colors very well but the only thing I don't like about it is the fact that the paper feels too thin for my taste. If the paper was a little thicker, I would say that it would feel more professional to... Show More

Nothing bad to say
The price is reasoable, a few dollars less than Ultra prem Luster. The prints are wonderful. I am a photographer that processes and prints his own prints. I had a difficult time deciding which was metallic and which was regular Luster. Other than the paper color itself, and a slight metallic sheen, only my wiofe could pick out which was which. The paper is a whiter white than Luster non metallic. Negatives. Using the printer profile from Epson pr... Show More

Metallic Paper Delivers Great Images
I recently purchase a pack of Epson's relatively new Metallic Photo paper. I've been using it to print black and white photos on my Epson R2400. I have been quite impressed with the result. The tonal range is great; deep blacks while preserving highlight and the sharpness of the images is impressive. From some angles the images appear a little glittery, but overall I'm very pleased. Epson Metallic Photo Paper pretty cool
I didn't know if the Epson Metallic Photo paper would work on my older R1800 Epson printer, so I ordered a package of 8-1/2 x 11 to try it out before I bought the 13 x 19 size. It loads well and the Ultra Chrome Ink used on the R1800 works well on the paper. I like it and will continue to purchase it in a variety of sizes. It has a subtle sheen to it and is a little heavier paper. So, if you're afraid to try it on an older printer, maybe this rev... Show More

Excellent
I'm using this in an Epson 3880. I find this an excellent medium for some of my favorite image types: extreme macros of insects, detailed portraits of raptors and other birds, colorful landscapes and similar things. It would also be superb for B&W images. I wouldn't call this a general purpose paper, but once you learn where it works, it's really terrific. I've used other brands of metallic paper, and Epson's produces the most predictable metallic paper I've used and gamut is very good.

I recommend this paper highly and will be buying it again.
My wife and I are primarily Landscape Photographers based in NC although we travel extensively to othet parts of the world. For the last six months all of our images have been printed on EPSON Metallic Photo Paper Luster or enlarged further and printed as Canvas Prints. I find this paper to have a very high photo luminescence and color fidelity. As a result I have reduced the number of prints enlarged on Metallic Panels. All of my paper prints are with my EPSON printers.

Epson Metallic Photo Paper Luster
I tried the 8.5 x 11 size first to see if it would work on my older R1800 Epson printer, and it works beautifully. Nice paper, nice sheen, nice weight -- I may use it instead of regular luster paper from now on, because it really doesn't need any gloss optimizer, although Epson commends that the gloss optimizer be used on the metallic paper. I sometimes have trouble with the optimizer smearing, however, so if I have a problem I can just turn it off. I like the paper.

Disappointing because of the base.
I have been using Inkpress Metallic Glossy for a certain photo series (it's definitely not a general-purpose paper). Decided to try the Epson equivalent. I was much disappointed because the paper is decidedly less bright and less white than the Inkpress and carries a slight yellow cast, a bit like a very out-of-date silver paper (for those who remember those things). I will return to the Inkpress paper.

Super sharp prints with metallic sheen
The very best metallic paper I've found so far. Printing B&W and color prints on this paper using an Epson P800 produces the sharpest prints I've seen from the P800. The paper base is very grey so you wouldn't want any of the base showing in framed photos. The sheen is amazing with no surface texture. A very unique look similar to sublimated metal prints.

I would call it Glossy paper with a metallic sheen.
I really wouldn't describe this product as metallic rather I think it is a super glossy white. However, some photos have a sort of metallic sheen but others just look super glossy. I have purchased many boxes of this stuff and really love it for presentation prints. If gloss is what you want...you probably won't find any glossier paper.

Very sharp, but white is dull
This is a very nice paper if you like to examine your print details closely because the resolution is much higher than non-metallic paper. However, the downside is that whites look more like steel than white, causing the overall image to look grayish. The gloss isn't as smooth and glasslike as Cibachrome, but it is pretty decent.

Metallic Photo Paper Glossy
I use this paper when I want the color and details to pop. It also renders beautifully in B&W. This paper is very similar to Red River's Pearl Metallic, and in the larger sizes, it is cheaper. I am amazed to find such a good paper at such a low price. I do wish that it was thicker; I fear that over time the paper may buckle.

Great paper
Printing is challenging with every paper.Metallic photo is a great addition. My printing experience is limited , but I surely advice Epson to give specific brief instruction , video or audio for each paper. Because a poor print discourage to print more or even use or buy printer.Overall paper quality is excellent.

Great for black & white prints!
I still shoot a lot of film and the metallic photo glossy paper is best for fine details and excellent contrast for zone system style photos from scans of black & white film. It closely resembles silver prints made in a traditional darkroom. Unfortunately it does not do as well with color, therefore just 4 stars.

New experiment
I use metallic papers for some type of photos. The results are great but the papers are difficult to handle. This is my first try with Epson metallic papers. So far the handling is difficult but I guess it is the nature of the paper. I need to set-up the printer differently. The colors, etc, are excellent.

This Paper Makes Sales for Me
I'm stuck on this paper. I've never seen my prints look so nice. Anyone who sees them is very impressed. This paper is making sales for me. My use is for very highly saturated colors. They do pop off the paper like people state. There is a 3D-ish effect in the prints. I highly recommend this paper.

Spectacular character of clear water and bright contrasts
Excellent gloss finish with particularly beautiful character to clear water areas (they seem to have real depth). Also gives sparkling contrast between contrasting areas. Depending on the image type can provide a very nice difference from regular glossy prints. Terrific results for fireworks.

Great Product
So far I have made one print using this paper. The image was chosen for its specific characteristics being suited to the media. The image quality is comparable to a silver based print on metallic paper. The next test is to see if it drymounts easier than its silver based counterpart.

It is okay
I decided to try this out just to see what it was like. And all I can say is that it is okay. I have used the Red River Polar Metallic paper before and I like it better then the epson. I have also tried the Epson Metallic Glossy and I still like the Red River paper better.

Color prints true
I have only used about 10-12 sheets of this paper so far. It seems to print true, colors are natural, not too vivid. Slightly disappointed by the amount of sheen, I have seen other papers that seem to have a more vibrant metallic sheen than that with this Epson paper.
