The Argument for Aluminum

Mar 24, 2019

Tripods intended for carry in the field have tubular legs made of aluminum or carbon fiber, and some can extend upwards of 110. With massive legs 42mm thick and a total weight of less than 8 pounds, they are rated to hold up to 88 pounds of heavy photo equipment. The deciding factor of whether to purchase aluminum or carbon fiber is usually based on the tripods weight. If an aluminum tripod was available with these dimensions then it would be a p... Great - with a couple of quibbles

Dec 20, 2018

For reasons to follow, this is probably a 4.5 star review. For the taller photographer this is the perfect tripod. I can raise the camera to a comfortable working height without extending the center column. The resulting platform (with an Arca Swiss P0 head and up to a D750/200-500 f5.6 lens combo) is close to rock stable. If you give it a whack it will vibrate for a second or two, but I dont tend to do that very often. To the quibbles. As some... Show More

Solid, high quality, versatile. Not for lugging around.

Jun 24, 2016

I spent months researching the perfect tripod. I read all the opinions that you can't get a good tripod for $1000, and that buying an inexpensive tripod is only adding to the cost of the expensive one you'll eventually end up with. I decided to get this tripod with a Sirui K-40x for shooting near my house and my car. It's big and heavy, which are pluses in every circumstance where you don't need to carry it. I'm saving up for a carbon travel trip... Show More

Sturdy tripod at a bargain price

Jun 4, 2017

Shopped around for a larger, sturdier tripod (relative to the carbon fiber tripod I typically hike with) to use with longer and heavier lenses. Most were pretty expensive; of course there's the old adage about getting what you pay for. Ran into another photographer using the Benro TMA47AXL while photographing bald eagles at Berry College in Rome GA. Checked it out and I was very impressed, even more when he told me what they were selling for. Pur... Show More

The last tripod you will ever need for pro dslr work

Mar 7, 2019

So, story time, I bought this tripod looking for one that would be big and tall. Now big and tall for me being a 57guy is like 65, so I figured the 75 would be good and I would never have to worry. I wasnt wrong, but I definitely underestimated just how tall that is... So, I get the box and I think it seems like the box is a bit big, but whatever, no biggie, I bet the tripod is smaller. Open it up to an equally long box and I begin to realize ju... Show More

Great value

Oct 5, 2016

What I like: These go really tall, are really light and cheap for their height, and hold my camera securely. Also they come with really nice travel bags and plenty of hardware, including a short post for someone who doesn't want or need the center post riser. Minor gripes: They have blue trim instead of being all black, the travel bags aren't big enough to put the head in with the legs. What could be better: the locking mechanisms are sortta chea... Excellent Tripod, Thank you Benro.

Mar 29, 2017

I use this product for Track & Field Timing and mount 10 lb. cameras on it outside in the wind and elements. This is a great tripod, has excellent stability with a wide base, especially like the weight hook and it's very strong and easy to setup and take down. Love the twist and lock legs. It's also surprisingly light to carry and comes with a nice carrying case to protect it between meets. The most important part for me though is the height, it ... Show More

Great Product for the Price

Aug 13, 2015

This tripod is amazing for the price. There is solid stability even at full length with the column extended. There aren't a lot of budget friendly tall tripods out there, so this is a perfect fit. A couple cons though... Con 1 The twist locks feel and sound as if the threading is scraping and possibly stripping. I am fairly confident it will be fine and last a while still. Con 2 The tripod bag doesn't fit my geared tripod head. It's a nice bag, b... Show More

SOLID & TALL

This is my 2nd Benro product & I am beyond pleased with the build & quality & performance. I got this originally because I do mostly wedding Cinematography & I am up front to the left. EVERYTIME the Officiant says Arise, or Please Stand as the Bride enters I only see heads. My goal was to capture the Brides processional. With a 7foot clearance with this tripod, I have no worries, I raise it up & it clears heads & captures the Bride. The packaging... Show More

Great tripod but it's a BEAST!

Sep 20, 2018

Had been using Manfrotto but hate their new stuff--it's junk--and was looking for a better option. This thing is so much better and better-made than the Manfrotto garbage these days. I got this one--the extra long version--thinking I could benefit from the extra height. I shoot houses for a living and a tripod is a necessity. Unfortunately, this one is just too big for this sort of thing--I've ordered the shorter-version and it's much better for this sort of photography. It is an EXCELLENT tripod, however. Well-made and sturdy. Comes with a really nice bag and tools.

My new favorite

Feb 17, 2020

Upgraded to this tripod for its greater capacity and height. Definite improvement over my lighter weight Manfrotto. Can tell a real difference in stability in not needing to use the center column to get to the height setting sometimes needed. Combined with my Manfrotto ball head, it has been an all around quality improvement in my equipment. The only mod I made was to add extra padding to the upper leg sections using 1.5 inch inner diameter foam pipe insulation and covering that with my own custom made wrap. You cant go wrong picking this tripod if you are needing to upgrade.

Rock solid and Beautifully Engineered

Dec 4, 2016

Amazingly solid from just 18 inches off the ground to its full 7 foot height. That height opens up a new range of creative possibilities. The action is smooth, positive, and fast. The carrying case protects it well and looks very professional. I've had several other tripods, including one three times the cost of this one, but this is my favorite, by far. It's a LOT of tripod for the money. I use it with the best head I've ever had by far, an FLM CB 58 FT2, which handles a medium format camera with a large lens, no problem. They make a terrific combination.

This thing is HUGE!

Dec 9, 2018

Sometimes when I used my teleprompter, I noticed that my standard tripod just wasnt tall enough, especially when shooting people over 6 feet. With this new tripod, that is no longer a problem. The legs extend out, plus theres a very sturdy center column that extends up, for a max height of about 7 feet. This week I did a commercial shoot, and put a slider on top of this bad boy. I had to stand on a chair to run camera, and absolutely loved the overhead angle. This will come in real handyand gives me options I did not have before.

Big. Solid. Just what I needed.

Sep 18, 2016

I had a big video shoot coming up where I needed a tripod that would allow me to be very high up. This Benro was the perfect solution. It is totally solid even with the center column at full height. Granted I had a GH4 on it with an S4 Hybrid head so there wasn't too much weight, but it performed flawlessly allowing me to see over the crowd and get steady shots without any vibrations while panning the camera around. And, it is VERY affordable without being cheap in any way. It's extremely well made.

Tall, stable, nice working tripod for studio

Oct 4, 2015

I needed a tall stable tripod for some types of product shots and this fit the bill nicely. I am not a fan of selling our entire manufacturing base to China but this is a nice product. It has the height I need, it's stable at full height, and the leg locks and central column lock are smooth and positive. It is heavy but if it wasn't it wouldn't be as stable as it is. The price for a carbon fiber tripod this size was 4 times the price and I didn't want to spend that much. It's a great value.

Just perfect!

Jan 6, 2018

Wasn't able to find anything better than this Benro. 20 Kg or 44 Lb working load is no joke. Also got their ballhead with the same rating. Everything looks very solid, and very well made. A handy horizontal durable case with a handle and shoulder strap is included. This tripod also can be converted to a monopod. It comes with one extra set of feet (spikes). I'm very happy with purchase. I'll be using it for wildlife photography with a Nikon D500 and Sigma 150-600 mm lens.

Nice complement to my RoadTrip

Oct 25, 2017

Exactly what I wanted. Tall and very sturdy...Heavy, but not too heavy for its size. Because its so tall, I can leave the center column down all the way, not extend the legs completely, and still have the camera at eye level. This configuration provides a super sturdy platform for astro/long exposures. Definitely a home base tripod not meant for the backpack. All components are large, well made and tight. Fully extended you will need a ladder...Shaq would love it!

"AWESOME"

Oct 17, 2018

What can I say, this is the tripod I always wanted, it is super steady, very well made. I have a super heavy 150-600 Sigma and I always shooting things from far away, the previous one it would shake a little, enough to cause a blurry picture, this one seems like made of concrete. Of course, comes with a price, heavy, but it if you are a nature shooter and stay in one place, it is wonderful, I use it with a Gimbal.

brilliant tall tripod

Jul 7, 2018

This tripod is a god send for people who need a taller than usual tripod for their studio or for landscape photos. Even without it's center column, it's right at eye level (I'm 6 foot 4)! No more bending and crouching for me! The one draw back, is that it's heavier than most tripods because of its longer legs. The carry bag is great, with extra pockets on the side for your knick-knacks and a nice strap.

Love it!

May 13, 2019

Just what I was looking for. This is big and sturdy with only two twist locks per leg makes it easy to deploy. I want it for city work (short trips), not much hiking, so no need to spend the extra $$$ for carbon fiber. A nice enhancement would be that the legs had markers or etching at every inch or two to make it easier to open the legs at the same length. Not knocking it at all, because no others have it.

You get way more than you pay for.

May 12, 2019

Ordered this tripod as a replacement for my old Bogan. Nothing wrong with the old one except it is way heavy and not really a field tripod, more like a studio tripod. The Benro came with a great carry case, a dust cover, tools and replacement spike feet as well as a short center column. Stuff other manufactures at twice the price charge extra for. The build quality is excellent and should last a lifetime.

Beast of a Tripod!

Aug 16, 2018

Surprised about how big it was in person! Very sturdy and has more height than I will ever need. Not a tripod that easily portable when trekking deep into the woods when paired with a gimbal head, but if going to set up in one place and letting the wildlife come to you it's great! Also great for airshows, baloon festivals and the like!

Heavy, which is what I wanted.

Dec 18, 2016

This thing is a beast. Good solid feel, perfect for long exposures. You're not going to go on long hikes with it. If I were to critique it in the negative at all, it would be that the leg locks feel kind of gritty, not like a precision machine screw. I hope they last. Price vs. performance is very good. I'd buy it again.

Great tripod.

Feb 28, 2020

This is a solid tripod that goes high and low. It is not that light and not meant to carry into the wilds for long distances. Also, the tripod head extender is seriously damped which is good for not lowering your camera with a bang but got me a little nervous on first operating it, fearing I might strip something.
