3 Tries - All Fails

Sep 2, 2019

While I really like the mini-leg feature, the build quality on this monopod seems to be severely lacking. I have now had 3 different versions of this item, and the same problem keeps recurring. Namely, the thee stages keep falling apart. Release a clamp to extend a stage and the whole leg slides out. The first one I had developed this problem in the first couple of months. Under warranty from B&H, it was replaced at no charge. The second versio... Show More

Good Build, a little heavy and rickety

Jan 9, 2012

Maybe you just turned to this monopod with tripod capability for the same reasons as mine- tripods are cumbersome. You need to extend three legs undoing the many locks and that doesn't allow you to quickly be ready for shooting. I was at Grand Canyon with my tripod, trying to shoot the dawn, changing places, hurrying not to miss the light that'll never be the same in the next second. While tripods are made to provide great stability if you want t... Show More

Great monopod, fairly lightweight

Nov 20, 2015

I got this monopod from a packaged deal with my 5DmkIII camera and thought it would be a great addition to my sports photography gear that I am building on. I thought that this monopod was going be a throw-away product that I would want to instead buy a carbon fiber monopod to replace it... But to my surprise, this monopod is actually quite good. The build quality is good, it's lightweight and easy to use and I really cannot complain about anythi... Show More

Sturdy, well made, good value

Dec 16, 2014

I needed to upgrade my lightweight Canon 100 monopod to accommodate a heavier lens I recently purchased. I settled on this Oben with the VH-R2 tilt head. I knew from reading the specs that this monopod was a little thicker and heavier than the Canon one, but I didn't realize until I received it how substantial it actually feels in hand. (If weight were an issue I probably would have opted for the carbon fiber model, but I won't be carrying my gea... Show More

Pleasantly Surprised...

Mar 9, 2014

I thought when I saw the Oben AMC-2400 list in additional items included with my Nikon D800 body purchase that I'd sell it for whatever I could get for it. On inspection I got out a spare Bogen 3229 swivel and installed it on the monopod. I'm going to use this monopod. One should know that monopods like this normally do not come with a head so one must supply one before using the monopod. The monopod has a standard 3/8-16 stud for attaching a tri... Show More

Solidly performing versatile monopod

Jun 24, 2014

I recently puchased this monopod bundled with the VH-R2 Tilt Head for use taking video with a DSLR camera and 18-250 zoom lens.It is not as compact as I like when I am carrying equipment long distances for instance in some hiking trail settings, but as a sturdy base for a camera or video camera at a wedding or sports event it works great. I like the feet on the bottom and I think the sturdiness when they are used more than makes up for any inconv... Show More

Stout monopod that is up for anything

Aug 7, 2014

I got this monopod as part of a bundle that came with my Canon EOS 6D. I have to say, I was expecting something of mediocre quality since it was part of a free accessory bundle, but I am really quite impressed with the quality of this monopod. It is very well designed, easy to use, and seems EXTREMELY sturdy. The sheer size of the tubing, even the smallest section, is rather substantial. Coupled with the beefy clamps, I would bet that the 26.4 lb... Show More

Not my favourite Monopod-

Apr 1, 2015

As a sports photographer, monopods are essential and I have gone through several brands and models either misplacing them or breaking them. I though I'd like this mini-legs version for when I'm editing on the side of a football field while shooting so I wouldn't have to balance my lens on the signage board or in between my legs. However, the weight, and the locking mechanisms cancel out any of the benefits. A ball head is absolutely required, and... Show More

Well finished and robust!

I've always used, and been satisfied with, Gitzo monopods, so I would not have considered this Oben ACM-2400 had it not been offered free with another purchase. But after having used the ACM-2400, I am very pleasantly surprised! This is an aluminum monopod, similar to my older aluminum Gitzo, and not much heavier than my latest mid-range Gitzo carbon fiber model. Like the latest Gitzo monopods, the ACM-2400 features legs that do not rotate. But u... Show More

Solid, affordable support!

Dec 30, 2012

Overall, very happpy with it. The Oben ACM-2400 is a heavy-duty, thick monopod with a well-padded handle that can support a medium-sized ballhead easily.I get the feeling I'll get years of good use. Two things that stuck out to me: 1) It's not exactly *light*, but I no heavier than I would have expected, given the durability and that it's aluminim (not CF). Moreso with a head on it.2) I love that the clamps are adjustable (with an included hex wr... Show More

The Monopod was provided at no cost as part of my recent purchase of my 6D. Like anythig you receive as a bonus I was initially skeptical. However once I seriously started to look at it, my opinion of the OBEN changed. It is rock solid completely extended with no wiggle in the joining of any section. Good value, Solid product

Jan 21, 2012

Sturdy and solid monopod, and a surprisingly reasonable price. The extra lenght is very useful given that I'm over 6 ft and want as much versatility with the product as possible. The grip and extension locks all feel great, too, and makes for a confident grip on the camera during the shoot. I'm very mobile and alter my positioning a lot during a shoot, so I plan to use the monopod as a support that I can easily and quickly adapt so far no problem... Show More

These are initial impressions of the Canon5D Mark III and 24-105 EF L lens kit. It is a solid and impressive handful of hardware and software. Left in A+ scene intelligent auto it is a heavy duty point and shoot. Dive into the 400 page user manual and the options are nearly limitless. The magnesium alloy body is a featherweight. I love many thing's about this Monopod.I checked out a competing name brand's model and all the user reviews before choosing this model.I have owned a normal monopod from that company and so far this Oben seems as well made and sturdy for less money. Buyer's should be aware that they will have to wrap the legs in three places with electric tape or something not to thick so they won't rattle but will still slide into the bottom section of the mono... Extremely Poor Build Quality

Aug 25, 2016

The ObenACM-2400L seemed like a perfect fit for me with its self-standing mini-legs, but I've now been through 2 of these monopods and they both ended up in the same condition: a pile of pieces. The first monopod lasted just under two months before the entire unit literally fell apart in my hands. B&H customer support was excellent and they shipped a second unit immediately. The replacement unit also collapsed in pieces after very little use. For... Show More

Noisy But Fixable

Mar 27, 2012

I picked this over the Manfrotto model because it collapses shorter and seems more versatile, which is all true. It works well with my Manfrotto heads and sets up quickly, which is fantastic. The legs are pretty rattly when contained, though, as other users have noted, but here's how I fixed that: Place a single wrap of rubber or thick electrical tape around each leg at staggered increments, so the tape doesn't touch itself when the legs close up... First of all, I actually was surprised to recieve this Monopod as a freebie in my 5D order. I was expecting something a little lower end so kuddos to B&H (no surprise here!) for dropping something that can be used at a pro level. Locked the monopod under my rig for a outdoor shoot recently, and not only that gave me added stability on a 15-18lbs rig, but it held its own very well. Solid Monopod

Mar 21, 2013

I found this monopod to be solid and fairly lightweight. It is easy to use, though, I think it would be more of a challenge to make a monopod hard to use rather than easy! I also like the convenient attached hex wrench holder - so simple and obvious. I mounted my old school 80-200mm AF-D lens with my tank of a body D700 (using a ballhead) and the monopod was perfect. When changing locations I just simply kept the camera attached and slung the mon... Show More

It's a great monopod for my work, which often involves video during live events. While I prefer using one of my Manfrotto sticks, there are too many times when the sticks + dolly just aren't enough mobility. This monopod does the trick. I like the two-part strap, which has a belt hook. The strap is in three parts that correctly hangs the monopod off of my belt, allowing the monopod to swing naturally as I walk. I use this for taking video in places where a tripod is not allowed or in spaces where a tripod is not practical to use.The monopod portion is great in that you have a choice of being able to use a ball head or a video head without worrying about the head loosening because it has set screws that prevent the head from unscrewing while panning. The mini-legs are by concept a great solution. Cheap....

Apr 11, 2016

They claim the monopod has a chunky rubber foot. Ha! It lasted for about two weeks before the lower leg section basically cut a hole in it....causing plenty of dirt and clay to get jammed up in the leg. The lower section then was unable to retract, so I was forced to remove it to clear out the filth and muck. Must have lost something in the process as now the lower leg will just slide right out. This is a nice little gadget. It's much more robust than you might think. It has clamps to hold the sections. I prefer collets, but these clamps seem secure, and there is a little Allen wrench attached in a handy spot to tighten things up if they get loose. The foam grip at the top is very nice, and will help keep your hands warm when it is cold. The screw on the top is reversible so you have a 3/8 or a 1/4 attachment. You could attach a camera d... Convenient Monopod

Apr 15, 2014

As a first time user of any type of pod (tri or mono), I have found the Oben ACM-2400 to be convenient and easy to use. So far (only 2 outings), it is also rugged, easy to handle and comfortable to handle and hold. The only downside is not specific to this product, but to monopods in general -- while they are certainly better than trying to hold a heavy camera and lens without a pod, the mono aspect still allows the camera to move around a lot; i...
