Manfrotto 391RC2 3-Way, Pan-and-Tilt Head with 200PL-14 Quick Release Plate

So Far So Good
So far I am very happy with this head. It provides great maneuverability and the spirit level is very helpful; exactly what I wanted/needed especially for photographing families outside. No more guessing if my tripod is level. The grip action is pretty tight and requires some hand strength to depress completely, but as long as your not changing the position constantly it is acceptable. I am looking forward to the summer season with a very good tripod and head.

Awesome Product
This is the first ballhead and I went to a local camera store in Phoenix to test them out. What I learned is to absolutely get one with tension control such as the 496. This is solid as a rock and adds 4-5 inches to you monopod/tripod. The quick release plate auto locks when positioned and has a safety on the release. Locks down tight and a must have for monopods.

Just what I was looking for
I bought this in conjunction with the Manfrotto # 190XB 3-SEC/FLIP LOCK/ALUMINUM TRIPOD and it works just fine. Its heavy duty and is a ball so that makes it even better. I have no complaints

this is the best
i never thought buying a separate gear for a tripod was practical but i had no choice but get one of these and IM GLAD I DID. i recommend this gear to everybody. the grip turns any way you want. your camera sits on it safely. you gotta own one.

Smooth operation, quality head
I use this head with the Manfrotto 190XB tripod (package deal through B&H). This head and quick release allows for instant set-up and composition. The quality is quite good and the combination is fairly light weight. This tripod and head should be one of the choices one needs to consider among the others out there. I'm sure it will be a very favorable tool for many years to come.

Left handed and I love it!!
This is a real simple to use and very sturdy. I use this primarily with long glass. Can't think of any Con's at all. What a great value for the $$$.

A solid performer
I'm new to ballheads after using pan/tilt, and I've been very impressed with the clamping strength and build quality of this head. There's just a tiny amount of movement after locking the clamp but it's minimal. The RC2 quick release works nicely as well, with a very positive click when locking. It's more than ample (as could be expected by the weight limit) for my DSLR with an L zoom lens, grip, and flash.

Great Head
This is a really nice ball head. Small and reasonably light. It adjusts with one knob (just keep the friction knob loose) and tightens super tight. Great range of motion and the two 90 degree plane options make for quick changes and setups. The quick release holds tight. Best product I've bought in a long time.

Excellent Ball Head
I tried several different Giottos heads and was dissapointed (the knobs were easy to confuse which did what and the head would droop under weight. I was going to get the larger version of this Manfrotto head, but found that this one supported more than enough weight (Nikon D300s, Grip, Flash, and most lenses, combined only weight 9lbs). Plus, there is only two controls on this (verses 3 on the larger model). In reality, you only need the one knob to tighten and loosen. This is a great desing and well built. Awesome price as well.

Just what I needed!
I purchased this ballhead, along with the Manfrotto 190XDB tripod, based on the recommendation of Scott Kelby in his book The Digital Photography Book. It's the first quality setup I've owned, and thus far I'm very pleased with the purchase. The ballhead is smooth and can be rotated to any direction. I've used it primarily for portraits up to now, but it will also be pressed into service for landscape and travel photos. Highly recommended, and priced for those like me who are on a budget.

Cool ballhead
Once you get used to it, it's really easy to use and can turn in any direction, which is perfect! Coming from a flimsy tripod it took a while to get used to the grip, but I really like it now

First Pro-Rated Tripod Head
This is the first time I had to purchase a tripod head. It's been great and easy to work with since I got it. It is a solid construction, easy to manipulate positions, and stable. It attaches to my Manfrotto tripod snuggly and makes it appear they are just one piece. It's a great addition if you're working with a camera setup thats under 8lbs. I have mounted a Nikon D300s with battery pack (MB-D10), SB-800, and 70-200mm VR II and it didn't strain to hold it up at all.

Most effiecient ballhead ever
I researched many ballheads before choosing this one. I had the opportunity to go hands on at a local retail store. The product is very comfortable, easy to use, provides all of the range of motion I need, and well built. It is a bit more expensive than other products, but as is everything in this hobby, you get what you pay for.

Very quick, efficient
I have had this tripod head for a few weeks, and overall am very pleased with it. I bought it for speed and ease of camera positioning, and I'm not disappointed. I use it with the Neotec tripod base, which was also purchased for speed and ease of use. It's a great combination. The grip requires reasonable hand strength to actuate, even at the lowest tension setting. I have no problem with it, but I'm a 41yo guy with no health issues. I imagine it... Show More

High quality construction
Works very well and the design helps place the camera just about anywhere the user desires.

Quick- release ease
I found it necessary to attach a ball head for my monopod, and the quick release mechanism is the best part. I keep the quick release base plate always on my telephoto zoom lens. The locking mechanism is solid, and the added vertical inches makes a short monopod the perfect height. It would be even better if it had a spirit level. Don't buy this model if your gear weighs more than 3 pounds.

Great Traveler
I bought this to replace the head on my new Benro travel angel since I already have all Manfrotto quick release plates for my other tripod equipment and their plates are not compatible. I had the previous 486rc2 but it disappeared on a shoot. The added adjustment knob on this one is a nice new feature. The size and weight of this head is perfect for hiking etc, since my Monfrotto Pistol grip head would just add to much weight.

An excellent go-light choice.
Used with my Manfrotto 190XPROB tripod it is an excellent go anywhere, do anything combination for outdoors and nature.

Good but not for panoramic photos
I love the swivel head and versatility in leveling the camera. Works great for horizontal and vertical photography. Cons - not recommended at all for panoramic photography and it is a bit pricey.

This is the greatest Ballhead Grip
This grip holds my Canon 50D, and which ever lens I'm using. It does not slip. It's very easy to move around. The camera is very secure on this Ballhead Grip.

Doesn't hold up
I bought two of these about 3 years ago. For the first two years they worked okay, but then started slipping (wouldn't stay in position no matter how much I adjusted the tension). I recently sent the worst one in for repairs, after which it worked fine for a few months but now is slipping again. Both heads now need to be repaired. The squeeze-type handle is convenient and great for quick adjustments, but it's irritating and costly to have to keep sending them in for repairs.

Great Head
I bought this head along with the Manfrotto 055XPROB Tripod for my Sony A700. With the 16-105 kit lens on the camera, it holds and locks tight with no sagging. The friction knob is a nice feature. I do wish you could pan without unlocking the whole ball though.

Great but bulky
I love the fact that this could be converted for either left or right hand use. I love that you can use just one hand to use the ballhead, but at the same time I needed to use my other hand on the camera to also help steer it. It can be a little tricky to use as it is so bulky and therefore you need decent finger/hand grip to use it. Whether that will improve with further use it yet to be seen.

Really Easy to Use....
After struggling with a pan-head for many years, this is a really nice, easy-to-use upgrade. Motion is very fluid in all directions, and it is easy/quick to make small adjustments to the camera angle. The head is bulkier and a bit heavier than I expected. One issue is that I cannot exactly level the head, as you cannot twist (vs. turn) the head left and right.
