Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC Lens For Nikon with AE Chip

For the Money: Wow!
I wanted a wide field lens to use with my Canon 60Da. I shot some 45 sec photos at F4 from a moderately light polluted site. The stars were sharp and circular from side to side. Very nice. See attached photo. I only boosted the contrast a bit. No other processing.

Awesome
Had this lens 2 weeks now...its a little learning curve being a manual focus lens, but nothing to worry about. Great lens at a great price since I cant afford the Nikon ultra wide lens.

At night, this cheapest lens in my set gets most action.
I use this lens mostly for night photography on my EOS 5DSr and LOVE it. While this isnt its only use - used it in city scapes, landscape, and some creative shots -, it outperforms my L-series glass when it comes to starry skies. Just use live-view focusing and a strip of gaffers tape to secure the focus ring while shooting through the night. I never noticed focus drift in cold nights (unlike some bigger lenses do). So far, only the Sigma 20mm ART lens compares in image quality, but not in price, weight, and viewing angle.

A worthy lens
Certainlygreat for the price, this all manual lens provides a means for learning some great new talents in manual focus and exposure.

Rear lens cap stuck. Wont come off.
Very excited to try this new lens, however the rear lens cap was stuck.. had to return it. I was not the only one who had this kind of problem after searching the web. It lacks the very minor final touch.

Favorite gift
Bought it as a gift, arrived quickly and safely as promised. The recipient absolutely lives it!

Great for night photography
I use this lens on a Canon 7D M2 camera. Set the focus manually in the day and put tape on it so it doesnt move and go out at night and shoot, 10 to 20 sec exposures on a tripod with great results. B&H are a great place for camera equipment.

Great lens in my opinion
As soon as this package arrived I took it out of the box and started practicing with it. In my opinion, this lens is a great lens and Ill continue to use it

Tack Sharp!
I use rear focus and it is a pleasure to use this lens with the AE chip. As you turn the focus control it just beeps when focus is achieved. Although it is not as convenient as auto focus it is fine for this type of lens. As with any wide angle lens there is a bit of a learning curve to insure that your image is level - overall a great value and a great lens. B&H is always a pleasure to do business with.

I wish I had bought earlier
Dragging my feet about buying this lens, due to some reviews, then realized B&H stands behind their products. I wish I had bought sooner!! Sharp! even at 2.8. Did not have the vignetting I had read about, mass production errors can be remedied by B&H return/ exchange. I found out infinity for astro photos, was indeed at the stop for my copy. Sweet lens, I should have bought much sooner, for the price, totally awesome! Focus confirmation beeps on ... Show More

I dropped it and it still works perfect!
Ive had this lens for about 5 months now and it is awesome! I have use it on my Canon 5D Mark III. I am an event photographer, so I use it for a few shots at the start of my events to get some shots of the venue before guests arrive. I would also like to include that this is VERY WELL BUILT! I am usually always very careful with my gear, but this one time I dropped it about 4 feet from the air and onto tiled flooring. Part of the lens hood ch... Show More

Bought it, tried it, returned it; terrible vignetting!
A friend has one of these, so I decided to try it although it would be the only non-Canon glass I have (I have all "L" lenses); the Canon in this focal length is just idiotically priced for no more than I would use it. When I got it my tests resulted in horrible vignetting. One expects some on a wide angle lens, but all but 30-40% of the image was affected with vignetting. I am not paid by Rokinon to do QA for them, so I suggest they hire more testers before shipping out rubbish such as this was!

Great for astrophotography
I purchased this lens primarily for astrophotography and landscape photography after reading positive reviews for the lens in those applications. After using it on a couple weekend shoots I feel it is the only way to get into an ultra wide angle lens under $500. As has been noted, there is some barrel distortion, and since the lens doesn't communicate metadata with the camera, you must import a custom lens profile for lens corrections in LR/... Show More

Great for astrophotography
Infinity focus was spot on, great lens for the price. Sharper than the Canon 16-35mm F2.8 at the corners for astrophotography. I use the canon 24-105mm F4 if I need autofocus for general use. You could by both lenses for the price of the 16-35mm F2.8

Good Value, Great Lens
Good for astrophotography with its f/2.8 aperture. Also nice for interior shots to include an entire room or large group. Focus ring has enough tension that it holds focus without need for tape or rubber band. I rcommend it to any Canon used looking for a prime wide angle lens.

Great affordable lens
WAY cheaper than the Canon 14mm lenses, and looks pretty good. Maybe not quite as pretty as an L-series Canon lens, but considering the price, it looks pretty fantastic. A wise purchase.

Not as sharp as expected
I purchased this lens specifically for the reputation is has for sharp astro-landscape photographs at f2.8, but returned it for the reasons listed below. For me the deal breaker was #5 and the reason I opted to return the lens for credit instead of exchanging it in hopes of getting a better build. I gave this lens 1 star, which in no way reflects on B&H. If there was a separate rating for B&H I would have given them 5 stars for their stellar serv... Show More

Great for Astrophotography
I used this lens for astro-photography and wide landscape shots. I compared it side-by-side to Canon's 14mm L series lens. Honestly, this Rokinon is sharper and has much less chromatic aberrations. The only downside to this lens, unlike the Canon, is its relatively intense distortion. (This is why you pay $2000 for the Canon) This will be noticeable when shooting horizontal landscape lines and cannot be fully corrected. But if you're plannin... Show More

Surprised
I'm very satisfied with this lens. I've shot nothing but Canon lens in the past. They are great and extremely sharp. This Rokinon is right there. Of course it's a manual lens but I was able to manage that effortlessly. Great results. Very hard to believe the price/ quality ratio. Really satisfied.

Well made ultra-wide lense
This is a really good, budget-friendly ultra-wide lense. The Rokinon 14 mm with the chip still is a manual focus lens, as is the Rokinon 14 mm without the chip. The chip version enables the lense to communicate with the camera for obtaining good exposure settings. The manual focus is a bit tricky at first. However, once I nailed it down, the photos are quite sharp. Definitely recommend this lense.

great bang for your buck
didn't even know a chipped version of this lens existed until i saw it on b&h! the chip gives the lens focus confirmation, automatic aperture, and sends exif data back to the camera. color contrast and sharpness are really nice, build quality is great. heavy vignetting wide open and the focus ring has a ton of throw but neither of these things were a big deal for me. replace the chintzy rear cap with a real canon one. super fun focal length and great value.

ok for the money
I read all the reviews about sharpness issues and decided to buy it anyway. Well they were right, sharpness falls off in the corners and towards the edge of frame. Also a fair amount of distortion on the edges as well. Otherwise its solidly built and smooth.

Excellent Lens for a Good Price
I use this lens for astrophotography and am very pleased with it. Stars are well focused at all four corners and center of the lens. I didnt need the auto focus model so purchasing the manual focus and exposure model works perfectly for this application.
