Great compact from Sony

Dec 16, 2015

I shoot with the RX100 III more than 9 months. Before I had a RX100 who was a really great camera and make my enthusiast with the RX series. First of all, the RX100 III makes for such a small camera stunning photos. Its very well build. The perfect (second) companion for trips and Holidays. It is the camera for having it mostly on automatic (the Green setting) or SCN modus. Go on safe and the results are 98% superb. The buttons are too small en t... Show More

Small but powerfull

Nov 9, 2014

I use this camera for travel, because of its size. For studio shooting I use my Canon Mark III, but for the travel it is too much to carrry heavy chunky camera with lenses unless I have a specific project to work on. The Sony DSC-RX100 III is an amazing camera because of its size. That small camera can take incredible photos, almost comparable to big DSLRs and high quality HD video. It is in my opinion gets as close to perfect camera as possible.... Show More

Love it

Mar 29, 2015

I travel quite a bit, and I travel light. I previously have owned a Contax G, and Lumix GF-1, but this little beauty just hits most everything right. While I have inadvertently entered into menu items because of the buttons on the back, I have learned how to hold the camera to avoid this - and I am pleased with most of the photos on the automatic setting. Its a smart little camera with big results. I'm very happy with it. The viewfinder is stunni... Show More

Wonderful Camera

Sep 30, 2014

This is an excellent camera that is very easy to use. The Sony menus are clear and very intuitive. Photos and AVCHD videos are great. The camera is a bit heavy but its made of high quality aluminum and not some cheap plastic. I love the built in EVF it works great in bright sunshine when the LCD is difficult to see. The zoom is a little short, i would have preferred a 10X zoom. The camera is expensive but its worth it. The large sensor makes all the difference in photo quality. I have a micro HDMI cable and i view all my photos and videos directly on my 50 HDTV and the quality is fantastic.

Believe the hype!

Feb 22, 2015

I never thought all the controls of a big, heavy DSLR could be found on a tiny, light point & shoot - but here it is! I need a viewfinder to avoid camera shake, and the DSC-RX100 III has that and a whole lot more! We bought this as our go to video camera for our Disney trips (lots of low light there), but it's the camera I choose to carry around for those everyday shots in my purse. The convenience of the WiFi is great - I can get a good, quality shot and transfer it directly to my phone to upload to social media - no more grainy, bad quality shots to share with my friend and family!

Perfect pocket camera for me

Aug 3, 2017

My wife and I travel quite a bit. My primary camera is a full frame SONY A7 and a growing collection of expensive (and heavy) lenses. On those days that I end up shopping or just touristing the RX100 is always in my pocket. Most of my shots take full advantage of the many automatic features of the camera with the ability to fairly easily 'tweak' camera settings when I need or want to The only reason that I did not rate the camera a 5-star, is I wish that it had a bit more reach. 24-70 is more than adequate for 95% of what I do, but 24-100 would bump that to 99%. A great camera.

First impression was good, but...

Apr 1, 2019

This camera has potentially great image quality, both still and video, but is so overly complicated, menu wise, its frustrating, and the .pdf download manual barely touches the surface. Example: I occasionally like to use the miniature effect for my doggie, so I set up the A (aperture) mode for that, but then ALL the other modes, S, P, Auto are then also set for miniature. Today I had it set to S priority, with other parameters set to auto (ISO, ND filter, metering, WB) and the pics were way overexposed. It seems the only mode thats usable (for me) will be the green auto mode.

Pricey, Pants Pocketable, Great IQ

Jul 12, 2014

I moved up from original rx100 to m3, for all the features I wanted: Pop Up EVF, relocated flex-back flash, 24mm wider view, tilt lcd. WiFi works well, lets me send pics of my Grandaughter to my smartphone and email to Grandma instantly. Image Stabilization is definitely improved, I am getting blur free slow shutter shots handheld that I could not get with original rx100. I wish it had a way to use an external mic for music recordings. You need another camera for more zoom, see my review of jacket pocket Oly Stylus 1, or check out shoulder strap sized Sony RX10, or Pan FZ1000

Really like the DSC - RX100 III Sony

Aug 20, 2014

I mainly use a Canon DSLR with an assortment of lenses. BUT it is not always fun to carry that much weight around. I have owned the RX100 III for a few weeks and am amazed at the quality of the images. If you expect to replace a DSLR, forget it. But it is close enough that I will not hesitate to carry it instead of the 7D when the occasion is appropriate. On a 20 mile bike ride it proved to be really a wonderful camera, with lots of shots suitable for display on a web site. The automatic settings are really good and I like the ability of using manual settings. Great purchase.

Great camera, just not right for me

Jul 6, 2014

Everything about this camera - size, lens, capacity in low light, sensor - lives up to the hype. But as much as I like it, it forced me into a choice that did not favor the camera. The few days I shot with it I had to decide which camera I would take with me. Even though it is small, that was not sufficient motivation for me to take this and my DSLR. And I prefer shooting with the DSLR because I can better see what I am shooting and I have a lens that gives me a far greater range of options than the Sony. I just can not figure out occasions when I would prefer the Sony.

Great pocket size camera

May 10, 2015

This is a great camera for travel. It has DSLR sensor quality, a lot of manual controls, and excellent photo quality. It is also very small. I have a few small complaints, but they are minor: 1) You cannot disable the LCD display (or turn it off) when not using it. You have to turn the whole camera off. It would be nice if you didn't have to do that. 2) The battery life is ok, but not great. If you take a lot of photos, you might want to charge it after a day of shooting or it may not make it the next day. Otherwise, it's a great camera that is still worthy of 5 stars.

A small gem for work and play

Apr 3, 2017

I can hardly count all of the wonderful pictures I have taken with this camera. It's small and light enough that I can carry it everywhere, but it also takes great-looking pictures. The zoom range and the flash are just enough to be effective. I work in PR and I have used this camera for countless social media posts, portraits, videos and more. Sony's wireless app for transferring pictures is clunky but it's good enough (I have an iPhone and I wonder whether NFC would provide a better experience for android users). My DSLR sits on the shelf thanks to this camera.

Excellent compact camera

Jan 2, 2015

Amazing picture quality in such a compact body, on par with my APS-C dslr with 24-70 lens. Low light performance is still not as good as DSLR or mirrorless cameras but it's expected. Enough for most of the night scene like streets, city view etc.The wifi sync to computer function needs more work... takes 3-5 minutes just to get started, really annoying. Wifi sync to phone/tablet, however, is blazing fast and easy to use. Battery life is about average. Got around 100 shots in real life with mixed EVF use. Need 1-2 back up batteries for daily hiking.

GREAT Pocket Camera and much more

Sep 8, 2014

Having carried large cameras and gear for a long time, I just got tired. I always wished there was a high quality camera that is small enough to carry around on a daily basis, without sacrificing features and image quality. So.... I bought the camera 2 weeks ago, and am very impressed. Great images and video, relatively easy to learn the functions. If you don't need a selection of lenses with you, this camera might just do the job. Unless you have small hands, you will have to get used to the small size, but I quickly got used to the compact size.

Terrific Compact Camera!

Mar 25, 2015

This Sony RX100-III takes incredibly detailed images which is the reason I bought it. I did side by side shooting with this camera and my Canon G15 (which I always thought was a pretty good camera) and the difference in image quality was very noticeable, both in RAW and JPEG. Even though it zooms only to 70mm, with 20 megapixels, I was able to crop the image to match the one taken at 140mm with my G15 and the quality was still better even with cropping half of it away. I highly recommend this camera to anyone who wants good detail in their images.

Quality!

Jul 6, 2014

We love the fast lens on this camera. We carry this camera while sailing, fishing and camping. It is great for indoor and low light shots with the fast lens. The picture quality is outstanding. The camera feels substantial and has been easy to use.The adjustable screen is very handy and you can not the addition of a viewfinder. I would prefer to start and stop videos with the shutter button on the top of the camera, but ce la vie! However the lack of filter threads is a bigger issue. Check out the filter adapters when you purchase this camera.

Great camera but appears a little fragil

Jul 11, 2014

Purchased as a second camera to my 5D Mk III. A camera that I can have with me at all times. A bit large to just put in a pocket but small enough to carry on my belt. Image quality is excellent, also love the lens, f1.8, still able get blurry backgrounds with such a small camera. Found the menu system easy to navigate and with enough manual control to suit my shooting style. My main complaint would be the flip out screen appears to be a bit fragile and it does not clip in to the closed position very well. Also the fit in this area is not 100%.

DSLR Resolution in a Smaller Package

Jul 9, 2014

I've been quite impressed with the image quality of this camera. As a digiscoper this camera has replaced the Nikon V3 as my go-to tool for recording birds under high magnification. With the 40X eyepiece on my spotting scope the RX100 III at 70mm gives an EFL of 2800mm. This requires a fast, sharp lens and the Zeiss f/1.8-2.8 delivers. Focus-peaking provides critical focusing and 10fps means sharp images even when the birds are moving. ISO is usable to 6400 so fast shutter speeds are guaranteed even in low-light situations. Wonderful camera!

Love this little pocket camera!

Mar 5, 2015

So far I have had the camera for a week and it is giving me all that I had hoped for...a travel shooter that I can use for our upcoming trip. Since I usually use my NIKON D700, this is much easier to pack. Photos are good with some artifacting and chromatic aberration on close inspection but pretty darn good. Still learning how to use it and will mostly stick with the RAW settings. Have NOT been able to get it up and running with WiFi yet. Will have to trouble shoot that with Sony I guess. Overall, a great buy and B&H always deliver!

An Excellent Little Camera

Apr 13, 2015

I had the RX100 a couple of years ago and returned it after several weeks. I bought the MK3 a couple of weeks ago and it is much improved. You have to remember it is not a DSLR but a very good little camera. I can now have a camera on me at all times. I found setting the camera up to my liking very easy and the results I'm getting are excellent. It is what it is and there is not another camera this size that can produce the same image quality. I am very happy with it. BTW, the new EVF is a godsend -especially when shooting outdoors.

The Serious Photographers Compact!

Apr 29, 2015

This Sony Rx100 mk3 is a beautiful compact camera for the serious photographer, especially for those who want a camera with them all the time. Results are very impressive from a very high quality lens (24-70mm) The great thing about this camera is that it can shoot in many modes including RAW format which is obviously a must for any serious photography. Build quality generally is very high and compliments all the other many hi tech features of this camera. A highly recommended camera if the price tag works into your budget.

Excellent images for a pocket camera

Aug 13, 2014

My rating is based on comparing this camera to other pocket cameras that I have used. I have been looking for a small light camera that will produce the best possible images. So far this seems to qualify. It is small and light enough to be always available. The viewfinder eliminates the problem of trying to compose the an image when shooting in the bright sun. The fast lens promises to be very useful for taking photos in available light. I have only used it about a month, but so far I have been very satisfied with it.

So far, So very good

Aug 5, 2014

We bought the Sony DSC RX 100 M3 based on a recommendation from a friend who is knowledgeable about digital cameras. We are about to go on a trip to the Far East and wanted a camera that could capture both large and small images with accuracy and clarity in a variety of light settings. We tested the camera on a family vacation and it produced great pictures--sharp and clear, in a variety of light settings and whether we were close or at a distance. It holds great promise for the images we hope to capture on our trip.

Not as good as I thought it will be...

Jan 18, 2016

Pros: Small and easy to carry, pocketable, Awesome built in flash, Good low light performance, ISO upto 5000 usable, Easy to navigate, Good built quality, Adequate battery life, Sharp image. Cons Only in 24mm you'll get f/1.8, by 35mm it's f/2.8 Who should buy This camera is for the person, who doesn't care about DSLR like images, who is upgrading from point and shoot, vloggers. Why I returned There are better options for me in less price as I do street photography and this camera is not fit for my needs.
