It's good to suffer

Aug 15, 2018

This isn't a comprehensive review, just some observations. Physically this camera is really nice; it feels solid in the hand and the controls are well-organized and provide good tactile feedback. The user interface is simple and rational. In that respect it's about the best digital camera I've ever used. The protruding lens mount means you can mount Sigma's DSLR lenses directly on the camera. I guess that makes sense, but I would have l... Show More

Better than my SD1 Merrill

Aug 11, 2018

I've borrowed one of these SD Quattro H bodies to use with my four Sigma SA mount lenses. It's a lot faster to use than my SD1 Merrill. The auto-focus seems to work more reliably, the review screen is better, the battery lasts at least as long, and the resolution of the images is better. Some people complain about noise, but I don't find the images from this Quattro camera to be any noisier than those from a Merrill camera. The big advantage of t... Show More

Fantastic camera.

Jul 6, 2018

I really love this camera. Yes, I suspect that if you're reading this review you probably know all about Foveon sensors and Sigma cameras. I'll make just a few comments about the camera and system: 1. The camera is built like a tank, and like a tank it's a bit heavy. 2. Although it shoots DNG, I shoot only X3 RAW format. I've been told that the quality is maximized by doing this, although I haven't independently confirmed that. I proces... Show More

Excellent Camera

Apr 26, 2018

The Foveon processor produces dazzling landscapes. It converts to Infrared. This gives me a walk about travel camera with regular and IR capabilities. The sensor is larger than a regular mirrorless crop sensor; therefore, it is a bit heavier. Very satisfied after my first use.

Not my First Foveon Camera, more of the same, but better

Mar 23, 2018

This is not my first Foveon Camera, and I would recommend anyone interested try one out first before owning. They produce incredibly sharp results with a different pallet of colors. But they are tricky, and you need to go in willing to learn how to edit a bit differently then with a normal Bayer style camera. As for the camera, it produces some incredible colors so far, and actually feels quite nice. The menu system is actually quite well done... Show More

Excellent Camera - Very high quality for the money

Sep 19, 2017

For those of you who are considering going full frame the SD Q H offers a great alternative for those looking to shoot non-moving targets. The camera produces outstanding color images, reminiscent of color slides, deep saturated natural colors, but with a pop which will make you really like the out of camera images. The quality and handling of this camera is way above the price points, but it is NOT a general purpose cameras. Low light performanc... Show More

Great B&W camera

Jul 9, 2017

The primary reason I purchased this camera was for B&W pictures. Here is a sample taken very late at night. SIgma 35MM art lens. ISO 100, F8, and 5 second exposure time. This is the JPEG - no post processing. I will add additional reviews as I test more capabilities.

Disappointing performance

May 8, 2017

This camera and lens are built like a tank. Beautiful construction and qualty. I really wanted to like this unit with the high resolution and unique image characteristics. But post processing was its undoing for me. One has to use The Sigma processing and it is slow and uncomfortable after being so used to Photoshop. For the person willing to put in the time this camera is a steal.

Fills Its Niche Very Well

Mar 1, 2017

First thing to say is that this is not a general-purpose camera, though Sigma seems to promote its Foveon products that way. It's a studio camera, a portrait camera, a landscape camera, a camera that's happiest on a tripod, being used by a careful photographer to make photos of exceptionally high image quality. It's slow to work with. Batteries don't last long -- get two or three. Focus isn't quick. There's no image stabilization in the body. It ... Show More

First true mirrorless camera

Feb 27, 2017

First true mirrorless with interchangeable lenses camera from Sigma! Large sensor, good dynamic range, focus peaking for great manual focus. Splendid images! Easy to configure, simple UI. SD cards! I had trouble with auto focus on the 28-70mm EX and 12-24mm DG HSM lenses. Most of the time I use manual focusing for great detail or bokeh. Autofocus can't guess (unless powered by AI) where my focusing choice is! You need two batteries, one charging and the other one in the camera, for uninterrupted shooting. I use the camera for landscape and portrait photography.

Not Really APS-H

Dec 26, 2016

Sigma sdQ: 23.4 x 15.5mm Sigma sdQ-H: 26.7 x 17.9mm APS-C 1.5x crop: 23.6 x 15.7mm APS-H (Canon) 1.3x crop: 28.7 x 19mm It's really about halfway between the current sdQ and Canon APS-H.

What I was waiting for.

Feb 24, 2016

Since I had to put my little APS film camera away in 2004 and took up digital photography, I have wanted to find a camera that shot in APS-H (Wide). One Pro Canon did have this but, at a high price. If I can get this baby with a 16-50 or just a real 24mm for under $, I'm in.
