which 24 mm prime to buy
I was having a hard time trying to decide which 24mm prime to buy. I wanted to use this prime lens to shoot the stars in the wintertime when the sky is clearer. Basically, just play around with it. I have a 50mm f/1.4 prime (about 30+ years old) and a 135mm f/2.0 L series prime. (about 1 year old). I love both and wanted to complete my prime collection. Stared at that $1600 L series, but just couldn't justify the cost for fooling around. My... Show More

Great Value - Using Primarily for Video
I bought this to use with a 5D Mark IV. I wanted this focal length to use primarily for run and gun video interviews with a camera mounted shotgun mic. I was considering the 1.4 24mm L series lens but didn't want to spend almost 3 times as much for this need. Reading the reviews that said the image quality was excellent convinced me to give this lens a shot. I used it for the first time last week and the interviews came out great. Image qualit... fair quality for the price
The lens is ok, not super sharp, but from f3,2 to the f8 is very decent. You can only see this if you are used to work with high end lenses. Im used to work with the 35mm sigma art and the 35mm canon USM II, and you can se the difference. But I use this lens in f3,2 for weddings when Im only shooting the party with flash, so the quality is ok and it weights only a little bit so that is good for my back.

High-quality glass
I have had really good luck with sharpness and easy manual focus with this lens for astrophotography. And also general use during daylight hours.

Excellent quality images
I am primarily using this as an astro lens for night sky photography, and the manual focus adjustments are a little tricky, but with autofocus and IS on during the daylight, it is crisp!

Travel Lens for my 5DMIV
Whenever I travel a lot by foot, this is the lens that I use the most regardless of lighting condition. Aside from all the comments on sharpness and being light, its IS is simply superb. I've used it handheld at shutter speeds of 1/5 and the IS saves the day.

Great Wide Angle Prime Lens
From the first photograph with this lens on my Canon 5DS R, I have been very satisfied with the quality of the photographs. Excellent prime lens.

Great lens for the price
I use this lens on my c-100 attached to a ronin-m. The auto focus works good while moving around.

Exactly what I was looking for
I use this lens for portrait and event photography. I've been slowly replacing my cheaper zoom lenses with primes, and this is a great, affordable wide angle. It is very sharp and great in low light. I love that it has quiet focusing. It's a perfect addition to my gear!

A must have for shooting large groups in tight spaces
I am a nightclub photographer and need a wide lens with low aperture. I have been using a 17-40mm f4 but sometimes have to shoot as high as 8000 iso with a Canon 6D. The photos still come out great surprisingly, but I don't want to have to shoot that high. With a 24mm f2.8 I have a great lens that performs awesome in low light, even better with a flash, and is wide enough to get the shots I need, but still does not distort people when shooting ve... A beautiful lens
I wanted this specific lens for use on my Canon 5D3 on an 3 axis gimbal stabilizer. First, a small, light-weight lens, Second, a prime (a zoom would introduce a variety of focal lengths, but in changing focal length, it often changes the balance, which means re-balancing the stabilizer). Third 2.8 is better than 1.8 because I want more depth of field as I am using this SOLO without any kind of focus assist. That means I want to be around F8 or F1... Show More

Exactly Perfect
I got this lens specifically for use with my Canon 5D3, on a video stabilizer: the WenPad MD2. The wide angle is just right: very wide, but without distortion. I also preferred f/2.8 to the faster F1.8 because more depth of field helps keep focus. Since I cannot count on continuous focus and I usually shoot single person, with no remote focus puller, the key is to stop down to f/8 or 9 and set the focus to a safe distance. Also, the lens is very light, which is a plus on a hand-held stabilizer. I did an extensive series of tests and was very happy with the results. Also takes great stills.

Wish I had one earlier...
Excellent performance. Used on a Canon EOS 1D Mark II. Thought I could use it for macro, but was only able to focus at a limit of about 9in inches..

Perfect choice
This lens was the prefect choice for me needs. I am using it with the Canon 5D3 on a camera stabilizer, the WenPed MD2. It is lightweight, which is very important for using with the hand-held stabilizer, very wide, without distortion (24mm is perfect). 2.8 is better that 1.8 for this purpose because with the stabilizer, I plan to roam around shooting smooth shots, but not able to touch the lens to adjust focus. So most shots are at f 9 if I can p... Show More

I really enjoy this lens
I wanted to play around with Prime lenses. I have a Canon EF 100 Macro USM that has had great results and desired to try other prime lenses. I have found the EF 24mm f2.8 USM IS to be the most used lens when shooting landscapes. I was so surprised with these facts; that it is light, fast focus, and renders a sharp picture. Sometimes the technical information can overwhelm the creative power of a lens. Technically it has soft focus in the corners,... Show More

May well be one of the best camera purchases I've made!
This is a great lens, period! I bought this lens specifically to be used on a Canon 7D, where it's equivalent size is 38mm. I have been using the 24mm lens for street photography as well as landscapes and it's a stellar performer in both areas. The USM focusing motor is surprisingly quiet, and the ability to override autofocus with the focusing ring is a big plus. Light falloff in the corners is very acceptable, and I was amazed at the Image Stab... Show More

Great for real estate
I use this for real estate, inside photos. Although my zoom covers this range, its much heavier and with a higher aperture. This makes it much easier to carry and being able to take photos in lower lighting is a big plus. Thought about the 20mm, but sometimes for real estate, they start looking too wide.

Taught me a lesson
Having been a user (and lover) of the Canon 24-70mm zoom f/2.8 I, and now the II zoom lens and, understanding that the II is probably the finest lens in this range, bar none, I expected this 24mm prime to be a bit of an also-ran at 1/3 the price of the 24-70 lens. I HAD to buy it so it would fit into the sleeve designed for it on the DJI Zenmuse Z15 5D III HD gimbal on a DJI S1000+ drone. I had no choice. That was it. If I wanted to use that came... Show More

A keeper after all
I bought this lens for landscape and night photography. Wasn't willing to pay out double or triple the price of this lens and took a chance that it would work for me. At first I was not happy with the lens and was thinking of sending it back because it was not sharp at the edges. After working with the lens for 2 days and discovering it's sweet spot at f/11, I can say that this lens is pretty darn sharp. I own several L lenses and find this to be... Show More

Wonderful Lens
This lens has been a life saver on more than one occasion. It allows me to get a lot closer to my subject than my other lenses, which is necessary for some of my shoots. The bokeh is nice and the stabilization is great to have as well. It's one of my favorite lenses.
