I am an elementary school teacher and make reading CDs for my students to help them build fluency. Even I sound like a professional voice-over guy with this baby. I am looking for a decent preamp because my mixer's preamps don't get it done.

These mics are great sounding. They sound as good or better than the Shure Sm 57. The advantage is they are multi directional. With the Shure you have to have the sound (like your voice) aimed directly and closely into the mic. If you get at any angle you loose sound. These EV RC 20 mics accept the sound from the sides if the mic as well as the front. Of course you pay for it. Best thing to do is buy them used as they seem to be very sturdy and will last. Instead of paying $400.00 you can get them from $250.00 to $300.00. ... More

Oh yeah this is the one.

I use the RE20 on stage to amplify my different saxophones in concert. It's the best sounding mic that I have played in a live setting. It doesn't emphasize the shrill high end like many modern mics do. It has a large, full bodied sound that is true to your instrument.

Great microphone.

I used to use a Shure SM7B, the main reason I switched was because everyone has a SM7B nowadays, I wanted something that was different but still very good, I also heard about the reviews on this mic so I decided to pull the trigger. In my opinion this mic is better than the SM7B, this mic just sounds so much more clear and alive, which I like. It also sounds better with my voice as well, obviously the voice part will vary from person to person, but that’s just my experience.

Meets my high expectations.

As advertised, this microphone exhibits less proximity effect than your basic cardioid microphone. This has a welcome benefit when used close up with string instruments such as acoustic guitars. In fact, this might now be my go-to microphone for string instruments. I was concerned about the low output level, but my Sound Devices recorder and Metric Halo ULN2 have plenty of reserve gain without having to resort to a cloudlifter.

I would've given this kit 5 stars but there is a weird plastic thing that goes in the hole of the desk clamp that connects to the studio arm. To be honest I'm not even sure it's supposed to stay in there or just take out and throw away. Will, it broke already. The instructions weren't descriptive enough on what to throw away. It's the only plastic component of the studio arm that I didn't throw away, and part of me is still thinking that it doesn't belong, but who knows.

Bought for use on voice-over recordings, at which it excels, but it's an amazingly versatile, smooth-sounding alternative to a studio condenser mic. I'm reminded of my early days at the legendary Shook Shack studio (Jerry Shook, the great Nashville guitar player's place)- now I know why they had about a dozen of these, using them on kick drums, guitar and bass cabinets, fiddles, even vocals and acoustic guitars.

I noticed Christian from Spitfire audio used this on his videos which I’m a fan of, so I decided to try this out. It’s much better than my AKG 214 even though they aren’t really the same category of microphone, besides being large diaphragms at the same price point. Basically, it sounds like the AKG but with much better bass for vocals. Sounds very real with my Neve Portico and doesn’t have the, I wish this was a little better feeling, that the SM57 always gave me on vocals.

The best dynamic mic I have ever used to my (male) voice singing. For some reason, my vocals are suited to this mic more than several condensers I have tried. I have tried AT, AKG, SH and others that were two and three times the price of the RE20. On my voice, the RE20 sounds better to my ears. I have used a cloud lifter and ART Pro mpaii. I have not tried it without a preamp. It is very quiet. I highly recommend this mic. The only con would be ugly looking shock mount.

We do voiceovers once a week for videos which appear on YouTube, so we needed a solid cardioid for under $. I am extremely happy with the RE20. Good bass and very warm sound. I used the same mic when I was in radio so I knew it was durable and great for a wide range of voices. We do not have a sound-proof environment and this mic does a great job of reducing outside noise. I do recommend a pop screen with the mic.I'd like a $ microphone - but this is the best mic for the money.

I only have experience using these on kick and bass - I’ve heard they sound great on other things too, like voice and piano - but it my own experience, they do exactly what a mic sound do, idealistically at least: capture a sound. They don’t make your kick sound like something else, they don’t mess with bass amps’ sounds. Really consistently great mic for kick in and bass cab/amp. Would probably sound amazing on EGT too.

The RE20 is one of a very small handful of mics that are ubiquitous in top broadcast studios around the world. This package gives you everything you need to add the RE20 Sound to your recording arsenal - something everyone in VO should have. Combine this with a nice interface like an Apollo Twin X or a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 and you are ready to create broadcast-quality voiceover for film, tv, podcasts - whatever your genre. Highly recommend.

I ordered this mic after watching a couple of reviews on You Tube, just out of curiosity, because I was very happy with my Heil PR 40. Wow! when I plug the RE 20 to my podcast home studio I noticed that I sounded different, and by that I mean so much better! I think the Heil is still a very good choice for that price range, but now that I could afford the EV RE 20 I'm glad I bought it and now I use it as my main microphone. Heavy, well constructed, a really nice piece of equipment!

One of the best purchases I ever made!
