I have used mostly Shure products for most of my life for my live vocals, SM58, SM57, Beta 58, Beta87A, but also a Beyer TX60 for a while. My voice is not as loud and my tone is somewhat darker than most ppl. Finding a good live mic has been very difficult and I've come to depend on the soundman to sort things out. Sometimes this is not been such a good idea. Honestly I had no idea a mic like this existed until one month ago when I walked into a GC and A/B'd it against the Beta 87A that I was currently using (along with a handful of other mics). The EV-ND96 is louder than all of these with MUCH less feedback and a clear crisp sound. It does remove some lower midrange that all the Shures seem to have but get over it - this mic works! That lower midrange just muddies my voice up I realize. The top end is there, but amazingly it does not catch that feedback frequency that other mics in it's class do. If you are looking for a mic that has tons of gain before feedback and clears up the lower midrange in your voice - while still providing treble cut and definition - than this is the mic for you. I love it ... More

I play solo acoustic with vocals and on occasions a trio. I have used an ev nd 767 for years. Been playing 33 years in many settings and run sound for some large events. There are are allot of good mics out there and everyone has different styles and habits of how they work the mic but the Ev mics seem to shine a little more in natural clear response. Proximity effect and working range have always been a bit of an issue with a natural sounding mic. It always seems to limit your distance And makes it easy to get out of the sweat spot Especially when in a high energy setting trying to add more dynamics to your vocals. This Ev Nd 96 solves that as you can work the mic a bit father out and right on the mic screen without worrying about the changes in the eq as you work the mic. It's hard to have problems with popping P's or B's or S's even singing loudly right against the mic screen with this 96. Well done EV . I believe due to the larger diaphragm in this mic it feels a bit more open sounding to even when your right on it. Not going to replace a good studio condenser mic for recording as far as I can tell right now but the best dynamic mic I've used for that . But live solo acoustic vocals it's a very condenser like feel without proximity effect right on it. The working range is pretty amazing and reject feedback well For as clear Sounding as it is. ... I have a Sennheiser E945(Supercardioic) and I love it doesn't pickup feedback and it's as clear as can be but I needed something that would capture my voice clearly without having to be up close and still be very loud since I have a soft voice also for to not pickup feedback. I visited my local guitar center and tried the Shure Beta 87, Sennheiser e935, EV ND86. I wanted to stick to Supercardioic microphone so I asked for the EV ND96 and omg such great sound and it captured everything and was loud even at a distance and I compared it on and off with my Senn E945 and I love them both but I am looking to sell me Senn for this EV nd96. I can't wait. If you're having the same problem please do yourself a favor and test them yourself. I read and read reviews for months and finally I compared them all great mics and this one tops them all. ... More

I bought this mic 🎤 last week and I loved it sooooo much, super clear and crisp, loud, doesn't get any feedback at all and I sing in front of the drums. I had a Sennheiser E945 which is also a Supercardioic but this one topped it, I'll miss my Sennheiser less than what I expected, this one gets through the mixer so well and catches every detail so clearly. It blows my mind how great quality it is. I sing at a small church of maybe 100 members

I would buy this product again

Have been using an ND86 for decades and finally needed a replacement. The ND96 is definitely an upgrade that gives me good dynamics for both lead and backup singing. I can clearly hear my voice singing harmony parts with other musicians and can adjust tone and volume (mouth to mic distance) to get the best voice blending. The ND96 has two settings but I use the more powerful setting and rely on experience to make the best use of the power available.

I've tried the shore sm57, 58 Sennheiser e 935, 945, audix om7 and so far the Electro-Voice ND 96 what's the best yet 4 a natural clear and very loud vocal mic to cut through the mix in a live band situation. For me anyway. I was impressed enough to write this review.

I bought this mic as an alternative to buying the RE-20. Obviously the RE-20 is better but, with a little adjustment, this one can sound pretty close. I primarily use to for live vocals and podcasting. It's very warm and has great low end. It is marvelous for male vocals and more intimate vocals. I 100% recommend this mic. Only thing I don't like is the shape. It's a fine shape for live but it's a little weird for the podcast.

Best dynamic mic I've ever used!

Bought an ND96 to replace my trusty e935. The e935 is a really good mic, but the ND96 has this top end sizzle and detail that's not there in the e935. My band played in a venue with impossible acoustics and this mic was incredible! No feedback or mic boom noise at all. This mic acts like it has a compressor in it. The low notes sound as clear as strong high notes. For backing and lead vocals in a noisy atmosphere, this mic is awesome!

So just my opinion here. Sounds a bit Nasaly to me, maybe its just my voice, which is on that side of things to begin with. The low end is non existent here for the most part, but that is in the specs. I a/b it with the SM58 and the 58 was just warmer. I scooped out 1k-5k a little and it seemed to calm it down a bit. Great build constriction and design. It's just not for me.

yes I would buy this microphone again if anything happened.
