These mics are great for recording. I havnt used them live yet but im sure that it would work out. And for recording, all u have to use on the drums are the 2 tom mics, the kick and the snare and it will sound great. Because of that, you can use the other 2 mics for other intruments such as acoustics,guitar/bass amps, piano, and vocals. It has a great price. I had some shure mics that did not do as good as these. CAD all the way! Buy it.

Okay, so when I got these mics, I wasn't expecting much, but the first time I used them I was blown away! And I haven't even used the full set yet!!! I didn't have enough cables to use the whole set, but I did a recording of my band jamming, and I used the bass drum mic, the snare mic and one overhead for the drums, and the two tom mics for guitars, and just ran the sound through a behringer mixer, and into my Line 6 toneport, then just did a raw recording with garageband. And it sounded amazing!!!! I was surprised on how well the tom mics did for micing guitar amps. And even with using one condenser only, the cymbals sounded crisp and bright. I would highly recommend these mics to anyone! Now I did have to do a little tweaking with mic placement as you do with most mics though. But these mics are a little more tedious to get the right placement, but it's worth it!!! The price is amazing, as for the quality as well! ... More

A great example of very inexpensive Chinese made musical instruments flooding the pro audio market these days, Built to be "pre-eq'd" for the drums and mission accomplished to a small degree. Kick drum mic can be made to sound ok with a huge dip at about 200hz, a large bump up at about 80 hz and a rounded bump up at about 5khz. All frequencies that the more expensive kick mics already have in place. The plus is that the kick mic will reproduce below 100hz. The snare mic needs to be added to at 6k and the toms added to at about 100 hz. The interesting this about this mic collection is that when listened to as a group, the overheads add snap and presence that causes the whole kit to sound ok. With a dip in the kick at 200hz, the overall picture actually sounds decent but the overheads must be there to create the entire image. If you want mics that sound better individually, you will need to invest a bit more. I would not recommend to a commercially competitive studio but would to a startup who is willing to follow the above guidelines. Marked as recommended but primarily as a price mark for semi pro application. ... More

these mics are a great buy like the title says. The only problem i have with them is the clips for the condensers are actually a little shallow when they go on the mic stands so make sure you have some adjustment rings for your stands. overall these mics are absolutely great. The bass drum mic i use on a floor tom and it really pics up the low end amazingly well. the tom mics and the snare mic (which i use on a high tom) all have a great sound to them i really think this set is excellent.

An outstanding product for the money!

I am a semi-professional traveling musician and I bought these mics as a back up considering most venues i play have torn up equipment.. if they have the equipment at all. I personally use the kick mic for my floor tom and the sound is seriously impressive. The snare mic definitely gives an excellent punch with it's crack which is hard to come by and the tom mics have been used to mic toms and guitars and have worked very well in both situations. The condensors work well for close hat micing as well as overhead work. Grab yourself a good kick mic and along with this kit you will be ready for anything. seriously. A definite good buy. ... More

The sound quality is quite good in my opinion but nothing special. My expectations far exceeded the price as these are extremely affordable. I was especially impressed with the mini condensers. Definitely works for my home studio. The included case is nice, but I have yet to test these for live applications so I can't say anything on durability. I have 2 issues with this mic kit that are both related to the rim mounts (clips). The wing nuts that are supposed to hold the mic angles in place do not work well. After each song I'm having to re-adjust the mics to point down at the toms, even on songs where I hit the toms minimally. They slowly point them selves up with each hit of the tom (defeating their purpose by aiming more at other drums than the target drum). I have the wing nuts as tight as possible and have even tightened the screws nearly to the point of stripping them. I guess I could try super glue next... My other issue with the mounts is that they do NOT stay on my snare drum. The more you tighten it, the more likely is is to fall face down on my snare drum (not to mention scraping the coating off of my snare head). And if I loosen it enough to not fall face down, then it falls off backward at the slightest bump of the snare with my knee or the rare instance I accidentally smack the mic while playing. In the mic's defense, I am using a snare drum with Sonic Saver Hoops (Mapex Black Panther Sledgehammer to be exact) and it is the only drum with this problem. The mounts hold rock solid (except for the angle adjustment) on my toms which have standard rims. This problem with the snare mic has ruined numerous attempted recordings and I finally ended up replacing it with another mic and dedicated mic stand. I couldn't use the mic included in this kit due to the rim mount being built onto the mic, using another stand with it won't work. ... More

when I set up sound I go for the same sound out of the PA as you wold get standing next to the instrument or drum. These mic's will give you just that with beautiful clarity. The only problem is that the rubber that stabilizes the voice coil on the kick drum mic broke and one of the wires inside of it was almost broke off. The rest of the mic's sound great though. Also if the condenser mic clips are too loose just clamp them tighter together and heat them with a propane torch gently. Let them sit till they cool and squeeze the mic's back in them. I haven't had any problems since. ... More

I must say this was a recommendation from another musician they had use them in Toronto as well as in Germany for recording and live. Some of the miking does take a little bit of EQ,however especially on a drum kit it depends upon the heads that are used. I have used these microphones for three years and have never had a problem. I have helped other musicians create CDs for multiple venues and all kinds of music. Whether you were a hard hitter or light, it is truly worth the amount of money. I have had the opportunity to use extremely expensive microphones and a very nice studio. I must say spending a little bit of time with these microphones on the software available today makes it very affordable for young musician or someone that is on a budget. My recommendation I would definitely purchase these again. Before purchasing take a look around the Internet and utilize guitar center for their price match program. ... More

Recording Studio: I have used these for recording and the sound engineer at the studio loved them. He said he only had to tweak 1 frequency and they were good to go. To be fair I use a drum tuner as well and the room was covered in sound proofing foam, etc. But everyone who heard the drums were very happy (also I use a bass drum sub woofer mic along with the regular bass drum mic). The sub woofer mic you have to buy separately from another manufacturer. Live: I used these for every show the band performs, and the sound man liked them enough to buy his own set. And every venue is different (size, stage height to ceiling, size of audience, inside or outside, etc.) so you have to be realistic. The sound man will have to tweak things. That's not just the drums, but vocals, other instruments, etc. But the built in clips make setup and breakdown a snap. Bottom line, they have worked out so well I bought 3 sets so I have backups, and I have already used the bass drum mic backup as the first one actually wore out. (Our sound man said that's normal, we've done hundreds of shows with these mics now, and he said just like a drum head, the diaphragm eventually wears out in the mics as they move with the air movement). ... After reading several negative reviews concerning the kick drum mic from this group, I was apprehensive about buying this kit, but decided to anyway, after all, I was offered a great deal! No problem! The kick drum mic sounded great! All of the mics sounded great! This made me wonder if some those remarks might have really been a personal tuning issue, and not the mics at all. It's a fact, if the drum tuning is off, and you throw a mic on it, you are just magnifying an already inherent problem! So with that being said, this CAD mic group does a great job of capturing the essence of the drum sound. Of course a good sound is only as good as it's sound system, and these mics will only enhance the experience! I don't know if I will get them out on location or not, but feel confident they would perform just fine! In conclusion this Pro-7 mic kit is well worth the money! ... More

Overall, a TERRIFIC set of mics for the money. The snare mic sucks, the kick mic slightly sucks, and the overheads will suck if you don't eq them right. Tom mics, same deal. I would almost replace them in that order. The kick drum mic works well for a bass cab. All in all, it'll get your drums recorded for a really decent price.
