Very impressive and versatile
I am not an IT or Systems engineer so I am still trying to figure out all of the capabilities this thing supports. It has a lot of business class support but also media, surveillance, backup capabilities that can benefit home owners. There is a learning curve for those of us that are not well versed in IT stuff but there is a lot of documentation and and help articles. I am having fun learning and figuring out everything that I can use this system for.

Great Storage for photos and surveillance
I purchased this single unit for my main photo storage and to handle video surveillance with IP cameras. Works great for both tasks. I have used synology NAS devices for a few years at work (20 clients) and they are perfect for sharing, backups. Very robust software, easy to configure. Surveillance takes a little bit of tweaking between the camera settings and the synology surveillance software, but it is very reliable.

Worthy upgrade
Replaced a DS210J that has been running flawlessly for 8 years. The reason for the upgrade is a 4-disk array and quad-core processing. I am very happy with the result, 4-disk SHR setup with the base RAM install. Very happy with the result! I have multiple system backups via TimeMachine, Media Server and Photo Station running and the processor rarely goes above 20%; RAM usage also minimal.

Mainly for plex
Recently picked this up specifically to use as a plex server to watch my 4k uhd mkv rips. So far so good as it direct plays my high bandwidth 4k movies perfectly through my network to my 4k TV. Its my first nas so there has been a learning curve but nothing to complicated as Ive been able to figure it out and am learning other ways to utilize this amazing device!

JUNK.
Ok Now what it is doing is changing the names of the files as it writes them, if i save over a file it saves a new one with a different name. like this it adds bunch of numbers and deletes the original name Original file name: 2MovieCollection_DVD530x298 What it names it : Adobe Photoshop CC 20172946349024397 look at the attached file.... JUNK!!

Great Machine
A very nice upgrade from the previous versions. To start out the new sleek chassis has been updated since the older one was from 2012 (DS412+). Easy memory access, now you can insert SODIMM sticks without having to tear apart the chassis. New SSD cache slots on the bottom make it a nice feature to have.

Great system
I purchased the DS918+ as a huge upgrade from an older Ready NAS 212. Software is easy to understand and deploy. Using 4-6tb red drives and although it took quite a will for the data to transfer and for the data consistency to update I could not been happier. B&H was a pleasure to deal with.

Total waste of time
Slow transfer speeds, documentation isn't written for average consumers, setup isn't for average consumers. The transfer speeds were just abysmal, made the unit useless. There may have been ways to speed it up, but communication with their support took forever too, so I returned it.

Unit and Software Top Notch
This unit and the synology software are working very well. Im not real sure what to say, expect Ive used many of these both myself and for clients and all are working as advertised. If you are looking for a NAS you will not do better than Synology. I can promise that.

Configuration no so easy
Physical setup was easy as was getting the software loaded. Setting up the RAID was okay, but a good tutorial is missing. I also have not gotten it setup as a personal cloud yet. Kind of difficult to figure out how to do that. What I attempted fist did not work.

SYNOLOGY is the best for your Computer Work Area!
I like SYNOLOGY SERVER because of its capacity and because it doesn't take up much space. I was able to recover the data I lost when I had to change servers. I just ordered a couple of disks that I plan to use for my media files. Thank you! Esther

Perfect replacement for DS415
Needed a replacement due to a failed motherboard on my DS415 . The migration to the DS918 was seemless. Was up and running in 15 minutes with no data loss. The locking drive bays provide additional security over my prior unit. Recommend this unit.

extreme value privacy/saving
Excellent NAS, I moved all my parents media (movies, music, family movies, pictures, and migrated them from iCloud Drive to this). Saving a bunch of money and we are in control of our data. Finally have the 3-2-1 backup for all their stuff.

I previously had a very old 4 bay Synology NAS that I loved but was out of support and was running out of space. I got this new one and 4x12 TB Seagate IronWolf NAS drives and had it up and running in minutes.

Quality NAS
NAS arrived quickly, as expected. Easy to set up and access from a mobile device or PC. After 3 weeks, I have only scratched the surface of this device's full functionality, but I am more than pleased so far.

Plex Worthy
This is my first NAS and I'm very happy with my purchase. Plex works great on here, but you will need a plex pass to use the hardware transcoder. Also, the Nvmessdcache is AWESOME and very helpful.

Fabulous NAS!
I upgraded to this Synology DS918+ from a 4 bay Synology 418+ so that I would have more storage capacity. I also allowed me to selectively encrypt some folders. So far it is operating perfectly.

Wow.. this thing works great
This is my first NAS. I set it up to burn my DVD collection to my own personal cloud. There is a slight learning curve but the free apps they give you are great for this! Well worth the $

Junk
I save files to it and the files do not appear on the drive, It Crashes. Synology Customer support is Junk they are clueless. from what i am going thru with this i do not recommend it.

Faulty motherboard
The start button keeps blinking and does not allow to proceed further which means there is problem with the motherboard. If this is a known issue B&H should not sell such products.

Best NAS I ever owned
I'm really impressed with this system, easy to setup and it works very well, also not too noisy. Great buy and I can recommend, especially as a bundle with the Synology router.
