So far working very well.
I bought this unit to back up my bigger 4k raw video files and finished films. So far, this has worked like a charm. I plugged it into my 2018 iMac computer and no extra software was required. I am running 10.14.6 op system on iMac! Fast and easy to use.

The Best External Blu Ray Ripper/Writer Ive Ever Owned
After buying a number of less expensive Blu Ray rippers/writers to hang off my iMac - literally all of them inconsistent in quality, speed and ability to get the job done - I decided to try spending a little more money to buy this drive. I couldnt be happier. Yes, if youre using it to hang off a laptop and need to take it out of the home, its likely too big and bulky. But if youre not, its the very bulk, construction and solidity of the disc tra... Show More

Have bought this to use as a reader.A reasonbly price 'player' of watching blu rays, dvds and to listen to cds.I have no concern about speed of the burning process as the faster you burn, there will be a high chance of a buffer over run.Never the less,as far as burning onto blank disc,I don't use them.I am using this to rip CDs and DVDs onto external harddrive.I have discovered that the external box can accomodate other brands of drive. And it is fa... So Far So Good
I've only had the unit about 2 weeks but it is built solidly and comes with an LG drive. Works great. I'm tempted to buy another one simply because optical discs (unfortunately) are being phased out.

VERY FAST
This drive worked very well for loading huge programs from DVD to a new PC running Windows Pro 10 using the USB 3.1 ports on both devise. (Note: OWC also has a newer model that has additional output ports, including fire wire.)

OWC - Thank You for a Great Burner
As burners go, this one has the bases covered. Heavy duty design, with a number of options to burn every format except toast (maybe its an option-haha). I bought this burner to replace my built in burner on my iMac. It has worked flawlessly so far. My only criticism is that I cant operate it from my keyboard (open and close), not a big deal. As far my specs go Im using USB 2 and Mac OS 10.6.8 so this may be a contributing factor to it not respond... Show More

Huge, Heavy, Wont Play DVDs
A Blu-Ray disc would only play audio, which could relate to my Mac and Blu-Ray software. I tried a DVD for troubleshooting purposes, and it wouldnt play it at all. So this product is basically worthless. On top of that, it is huge, heavy and ungainly.

Undependable, poorly supported blue ray drive
I purchased this unit about 1-1/2 years ago. I had nothing but trouble with it. Over several times, OWC failed to help me to correct the problems. Finally I sent in the drive in to them and they told me it failed. This was, of course, after the warranty had expired! I would not recommend this product to anyone. Don't buy it! Get the Pioneer instead and save yourself a lot of pain.

M-Disc Burner
Wanted a better external dvd drive and could not even find the flimsy cheap one I had after moving. This one is rock solid. I can buy inexpensive 50GB r/w discs or expensive 100GB write only archival discs plus all the blu-rays etc. work. Feels like a heavy brick, very solid. Using Digola's free Door Control tray icon I don't even have to use the front button to open or close it. Only a couple of mnfctr's make these burners. Mine is an LG. Even comes with instructions on how to replace the drive.

Excellent blu-ray burner
Could not be any simpler. No drivers nor software needed for the drive. True plug and play. Very solidly built. Just connected it and then turned on the computer - Windows 10 Pro with a fast Alienware machine. Loaded Cyberlink Power Director 16 for burning and it worked without any settings needed. The drive was just there like it was native to the system. Have not tried DVDs or Mdiscs, but suspect it will work fine with those. Played some music CDs perfectly. This is one nice piece of engineering at a very reasonable price.

Works to Perfection
I was concerned that there would be issues with the various DVD capacities and options but this Reader/Writer handles everything I asked and needed it to do. Now I am also able to use M disc which was a big part of my decision to upgrade to this model. Terrific purchase at a reasonable price.

Good product. No complaints
Its a little bulkier compare to other external optical drives but works out of the box with my new ImacPro. Works also with windows based pc. So far DVDs and Blu rays work perfectly with ImacPro with the right software. The sotware included to make labes its 32 bit which 64 bit is require for new apple OS but still works for now. This package came together with ImacPro that I bought fro BH Photo. It fits righ under the ImacPro so its not noticeable. So far no complaints.

Works Great
I purchased to burn Blue Ra y DVD from my Mac Power Book. I thought I might need to use my compressor software also, but I did not need any other software. I plugged in the OWC unit and was able to immediately burn blue ray DVD's right out of the box.

OWC Mercury Pro external USB 3.0 Blu-ray burner
For me, the OWC Mercury Pro external USB 3.0 reader/writer was plug and play using Windows 10. Ive experienced no difficulties. The writer successfully burned pictures to M-Disc DVD-R and 1080i movies to BD-R. Im happy with my purchase.

Works like a charm
I bought this as an upgrade to a smaller portable Samsung BD-writer that would not work at all with my Mac and only barely worked with my PC. This is a truly plug and play device, very solidly built and as soon as I plugged it in to my Mac and turned it on it was ready to go to work. Burned a blu-ray containing my recently completed feature film in just about 10 minutes - very fast write speed and the disc plays flawlessly. Nothing but good thing... Show More

Wish I'd bought this sooner
Excellent unit, very professional finish with stainless case. Have only used it for reading CDs so far (over 50 in one session) and no issues so far. As a side note, had to buy an additional adaptor from US to AUS power plug.

Good solid product
Never heard of OWC but when I got the product it has the LG logo on it. It is very solid, with its metal body. When the tray opens it is the usual plastic tray that holds the media. I had bought an Asus external burner just about a year ago and was getting error messages when I burned dual layered blurays for storage (using Cyberlink's Power2Go 8). With this product I not only got my blurays to burn without errors but it burned it in about 15 min... Show More

Great Reader/Writer (despite some initial confusion)
This is a great burner! It is very fast, both in reading and in writing to discs. After my 7-year-old iMac finally bit the dust I needed an optical drive for my current set-up. This is a HUGE upgrade from the Apple Superdrive I've been using for years. The speed difference is so noticeable that I can't believe I was ever ok with using the superdrive for as many years as I did. Even if you don't write to M-discs regularly, having the option to wri... Show More

Great Player for Imac
Very pleased with this product. Seems to made far better than the Mac Superdrives or the Pioneer, admittedly it's more expensive than either. But it plays well and loads fast, I haven't burned anything, but I have no need to at the moment. For those complaining that it does not play blu-ray on mac. That is apple's fault, regardless of what drive you have, you will have to get seperate software to play it. Steve Jobs himself called Blu-ray a box o... Show More

OWC Reader/writer an excellent purchase
If you are looking for a 'plug and play' CD/DVD/BLU-RAY unit, OWC is the way to go. Never a problem and completely reliable. I burn a LOT of discs each week, CD and DVD format, and this unit has never let me down. In fact I have two...one for home and one for the studio. Highly recommend OWC products and this burner in particular.

Excellent value for the money.
This is a true plug-n-play product for IMACS. If it weren't for the fact that it's pretty noisy, I would give it 5 stars.

Versatile, fast, solid, reliable.
I much prefer a tray to those devices that suck in a disc and never cough it up again. (May Ma ini, e.g.) Since the superdrive in my Ma ini died (and Apple doesn't build them into anything any more), and since my MacBook Pro that did have a working drive died on New Year's eve, I was left with only the drive in my Mac G4, which still works perfectly after all these years. But even that wonderful machine will not last forever, so I needed a solid ... Show More

Non technical review
I'm very pleased with this drive for burining DVDs. So far I've just used it for burning single layer 4.7gb DVDs and watching one DVD (playback). First the look of the device is great, the aluminium casing looks great. Second the noise level is subtle - not distracting, lastly the speed for burning DVDs is much faster than the USB powered drive I'm replacing with it so overall I'm very pleased.
