Solid build - Poor design
What were you guys thinking who rated this a 5? If you put this on a DSLR the release lever ends up in your mouth when you look thru the viewfinder. To avoid this you can rotate the camera plate 90 degrees but then the camera plate hangs off the back of the camera (and looks ugly) and the release lever is on the left side - these are the only two positions possible. Hold on, it gets worse: Due to the cavities in the casting of the bottom block, y... Show More

Perfect!
I use the 323 RC2 System Quick Release Adapter with 200PL-14 Plate by Manfrotto with a gang of 200PL-14 Plates for all of my equipment. I filed down the top of the plate on my 679B Three Section Monopod (Black) so that I could screw this plate on directly. It allows me to fold out my monopod and slap down my 400mm f2.8 in two fluid movements. I have tried many solutions to this and this one is by far the best. I mount the 200PL-14 Plate backwards... There's not much to stay about this amazing Manfrotto product. It's simple, striaght forward design is magnificent and easy to use! Attach the bottom peice to any 1/4-20 tripod head, the other to your 1/4-20 threaded hole DSLR, GoPro Tripod adaptor or anything else thats the same measurement and you're golden! If you need to remove your camera from the tripod just un-click the locking lever and pull the camera towards you. It's a great feature to... Show More

Not for Manfrotto monopods or tripods
I had hoped to use this to mount a 300 f/2.8 Canon lens onto a monopod without using a head but using the same plate used on a 486RC2 ball head. The pin for locking lever extends below the base and interferes with the top plate of the tripod or monopod. I received the following reply from Bogen in response to my complaint:The intention of the 323 was to allow other manufactures of tripods andaccessories to accept the Manfrotto plate, and not to p... Very nice with a Cotton Carrier
I bought this adapter to go with my Cotton Carrier System. Basically, a round Cotton Carrier insert attaches to the bottom of this adapter. The camera has the quick release plate on it as usual, which clamps into the top of the adapter. With the help of this adapter, this makes the Cotton Carrier system a breeze to use with a tripod. The camera is clamped onto the adapter, and the adapter is firmly secured to my chest via the Cotton Carrier vest.... Show More

It's built like a Manfrotto!
I have used Manfrotto tripods and related accessories for many many years. Mainly, I do photography with DLSR and 120 film cameras, and videography using a Canon HF11. Recently, I purchased a Glidecam camera stabilizer and needed a quicker way to mount and dismount the camera from the stabilizer. Since I already owned a Manfrotto tripod, pistol grip, macro sled and a number of quick release plates, I figured the 323 RC2 quick release base and pla... Show More

Sturdy, foolproof, but not for NEX
I have used the Manfrotto RC2 system with heavier cameras and long lenses, and it's great. Very strong, solid connection. I've switched over to Sony NEX mirrorless, however, and the contact area between the plate and the camera body is very small. The camera rests on the foam and does not snug up against the metal portion of the plate. It turns too easily if the ball head is tight. Because there is essentially no solid area for the camera to cont... Show More

Solid well-made
How many of us place our tripod in only one place and that's where it stays? ANSWER: Nobody. Anytime you are using your tripod you are always moving it around. Being able to flip a lever and the camera is off, makes this a valuable piece of equipment. The quick release may be a little pricey, but it works great. On the other hand, paying the price is worth the excellent quality. My favorite feature is that you can purchase the top and base plates... Show More

Everything Works Together Now!
I have a Manfrotto 055XPROB tripod with the 323 RC2 quick release which I love. It's simple and sturdy. When I bought my new Slik Pro Pod monopod I wanted to be able to mount my camera without jumping through hoops so I got this Manfrotto 323 RC2 System Quick Release Adapter for the Pro Pod. Now I can swap the camera from one to the other in seconds. Plus I now have another plate to put on my other camera so everything works with everything else.... Show More

Solid, but slight flaw
i love the solidity of pure metal. i used this quick release on a tripod, steadicam, shoulder mount, and slider. so each of those has one of these. so depending on what i see, i move my camcorder to that tool. however, if you mount this over a flat surface with a surface area larger than the base, the axle that pivots the quick release lever protrudes down. therefore, if you tighten the base tight enough, the axle won't move, hence the clip, leve... I bought the Manfrotto 323 RC@ quick release system for my tripod. I use a BlackRapid camera strap and wanted to be able to remove the strap from the camera and mount it on the tripod quickly. Using the BalckRapid T1 fastener and the Monfrotto 200PL-14 plate fit my needs perfectly. Perfect for my purpose.
I bought this to use with a 701HDV fluid head for my 5D. The 701HDV has a quick release, but I found the longer plate that is used didn't leave much space for using the zoom and focus rings on some of my larger diameter lenses. Also, the 701's quick release plate alone was in the way when the camera was off of the tripod. I bought this and attached it to top of the quick release plate that came with the 701 head. It raises the camera and lens, wh... Show More

Quality I expect but small mounting issue
The quality is good and it works as intended but I had issues getting it to mount. The problem is related to 2 small protrusions on the bottom of the mount that keep it from mounting flat. One for the release lever and a deeper one for the little locking lever which extends down when you unlock it. When mounted to my Bogen 3028 head which has a 2.5" x 3" top plate it would not mount flat because of these. I had to create a rubber gasket to go und... Show More

Does exactly what it should
This lets you put a quick release plate on most standard screw fittings. The one unexpected feature for me was that it came with a screw thread adapter which allows it to be used with smaller (1/4?) threads as well as the typical larger 3/8 threads. I purchased this so I could use my DSLRs on some used video tripods I recently bought. Those tripods use large hexagonal quick release plates, but the same issue would be true if you had any other tri... Show More

Excellent Adapter
Many years ago I ordered a ball head from Manfrotto. The quality was excellent, but it did not have a quick release system. I did not want this at the time (big mistake). I have several Manfrotto ball heads with quick release systems, all are excellent. I always liked the original ball head without the quick release plate. It, however, was always just to slow to remove the camera. Then while looking in the B&H catalogue, I discovered the 323 RC2 ... Show More

Best Quick Release System
I bought the Manfrotto 323 RC2 System to stack on my vintage Bogen 3035 tripod. The 'quick release on that tripod is very sturdy but bulky and quite old-school. Now by adding the 323 RC2 System and 200PL-14 Plate to my tripod, I can quickly change lenses and cameras that I've equipped with additional 200PL-14 plates. Now that I've standardized on this QR system, no more fumbling around and wasting time when switching from tripod to monopod. Oh, a... Show More

Good Adapter, One Watch Out
I've more-or-less standardized on the RC2 QR plate across the board, so I was happy to be able to add an RC2 adapter to one of my non-QR heads. The adapter works well - in practical use, there's no difference between using an adapted head and a native RC2 head. Do be aware, though, that the safety locking mechanism does extend below the base of the adapter; if your existing tripod head platform is a large one, you may need to add some kind of spa... I'll be buying a second one
OK, it's not as nicely finished as the high-dollar jobs, but bottom line is it does the job and does it very well. There's nothing better than a monopod to keep those long lens shots sharp, but screwing it on and off is a pain. This quick release makes it easy, so I use the monopod more often and get more keepers. I'm using it with a Panasonic G1, but it should easily hold all but the heaviest DSLRs. Pluses: Positive lock, plus safety catch. Snap... Show More

I think I'll get a couple more of these!
I use the Manfrotto 200 PL plate on all my stuff, and love it to death. Alas, not all my mounts are equipped for the Manfrotto 200PL. This adapter fixes that. I just installed one on a Opteka Steadyvid Pro, allowing me to pop the camera off without messing up the balance or removing my existing mounting plate. The reason I did not give this 5 stars is that it has a little lock on a back corner that protrudes down. This required me to get some was... Show More

Dissapointed
I bought this for my Manfrotto 679B monopod, and it does not fit! The small hex head screw that that retains the spring loaded locking bar in place protrudes from the bottom surface. This fouls on the mounting surface of the monopod meaning the adapter will not screw on. The only option is to grind down the edge of the plastic mounting surface on the monopod, which is what I ended up doing. This was my only option, as I wanted the same quick chan... Show More

But I also have some odd mounts that don't use it. Quick and Easy
I would give it 5 stars, but because the quick release w/200PL-14 plate didn't work well with the Manfrotto monopod I ordered it for, I have to drop it to 4 stars. The camera base on the monopod is very wide, which is great for just a camera, but the QR adapter isn't wide enough to clear the base.
