Stable for video, Compact for travel
This is the second set of these we've purchased. They are lighter than many video tripods but sturdy and versatile enough for any situation. Fully extended, your camera is at the ceiling for great high shots. Pair it with the Manfrotto 501 head and you are set. We bought our first set for use with a Canon XL1s back in the early 2000s. That set has traveled with us all over. The weight is light enough that even after an exhausting day of shooting,... Show More

Benefitial Height
My other tripod is not equiped to extend in height. I was convinced to build a platform to film an event that did not include a stage of any kind. I knew that B&H provided the Manfrotto 028B Studio Pro Triman Tripod Legs that has a crank to extend the neck, along with extra leg extentions to extend over seven feet in height, which, with the head (501HDV Pro Fluid Video Head) and Camera (Sony Digital Handycam DCR-vx2000 NTSC), and necessary attach... Great travel tripod, if you're the hulk!
What's up fellow camera fiends? Hope you're all having a great day! I just received my Manfrotto 028B Studio Pro in the mail and let me tell you it is an impressive piece of kit. The legs are very solid and feel like they could take a beating better than Tito Ortiz in his last fight. The only drawback I can see is the weight. Obvioulsy it's not a problem for me due to my super strength, but normal humans would probably find it combersome to carry... Show More

Every professional should have one!
I use the Manfroto 028B Triman tripod(3) to support my Nikon D610(3). This tripod is a professional grade, sturdy, and reliable. What I like about it most is its fully extended height which put me & my cameras 8ft. above ground level which is well above the heads of any crowd I have encountered at a concert and other live events. When you're being paid to capture a moment, you can not afford to have someone walk through your frame. I have 2 028Bs... Show More

Tripod shows off legs
I use this tripod to support Canon Digital SLR cameras. While some may think this is over kill, I deal with lots of little children and this keeps the children and my camera save. Construction is true and strong, easy to raise and lower with crank and everything locks together well. Not much weight. Should be sold with a bag. Would be nice if on the center pole, when the legs spray out, that there is a screw to tighten down the sliding ring on the lower part of the pole. Other than that, I give this tripod a 10 and will be buying more for the people I work with.

Best value for the height
I bought this tripod for its height and use it as a supplement to my shorter (but faster to setup) regular tripod. There aren't many 8 foot tripods, and for the money this is a good buy. My other experience is with Manfrotto's 9 foot behemoth, which while very stable is overkill for most cameras today (supporting nearly 50 lbs) and so it is costly. Despite the thin looking legs I've found this to be very stable. It's not very fast to set up or take down - I wish the center column had a quick drop mechanism - but for a solid set of tall legs, this gets it done.

Big, heavy & tall--exactly what I wanted
This thing is a beast to carry around, but it's exactly what I wanted. I have a Sony 1 pro camcorder--something far smaller than this tripod's payload capacity--which I often use for shooting community events or small performances where there's no dedicated elevated perch for a camcorder. This was my solution for a stable tripod that ensures that I can always shoot over the heads of any crowd and never have a person walking into my shot. It's almost always easier to bring a small step stool and this tripod than to try elevating the camera and the operator.

Solid, reliable, pro-spec legs
Great product for use in documentary film-making (with a lot of running around, travel, and remote location work) and corporate productions. I use this with Sony PMW-EX1 and HXR-NX5U cameras and a 503 Manfrotto head. Very good, easy to manage leg height adjustment, an included spreader that does not stick when opening, and a smooth crank handle for those rare times when you just have to raise that center column a few inches. Tough construction (few plastic bits, thankfully), and quite comfortable to carry over a shoulder for hours at a time (if you must).

Rock solid
Though this is meant as a heavy studio tripod, I bought it to use as a sturdy base for a portable astrophotography setup. I needed it to support up to 20lbs of equipment that would be rotating on a gear, and couldn't move a millimeter. And I have to say, as long as there was little to no wind, this worked perfectly. Very pleased with it, though I would recommend using it for applications where you won't have to carry it much, as it is very heavy. If you know that going into it, though, then this is a highly recommended base.

simply the best video tripod
First off, a very good b and h salesman advised me of this tripod for my video production needs and I am so grateful that he did cause I am so extremely pleased at the strenght and veraitility of this product...i use it with a manfrotto 702 head and on heavy duty manfrotto dolly i can shoot well over 7 feet high with it and it is stable all the way....i live the crank turn for raising it...COULD NOT NE HAPPIER I EXTREMELY PLEASED WITH B AND H AND MANFROTTO for such a good product

Rock solid, lifts to the ceiling
Amazing tripod. Incredibly solid, even more so when the lower legs are not extended, and one lifts instead the center column. The column mechanism is so smooth, one could use it for special filming effects... If you want to be able to pan hi drag without having the tripod jump, this is the one to get. Fits with tripod head into theMBAG100PNHD bag, even, at the limit, with the very tall N8 head which I use. Just be careful with the column: your camera may hit the ceiling...

Good tripod, great height
I didn't intend to get this tripod, but the single-section-leg one was out of stock and I was short on time. This has ended up be a really great tool - relatively (relatively) light, incredibly tall, and releasing the legs isn't fussy. Great for getting up high in architectural work, 'light' enough to carry around on location, pretty steady. Spreaders feel a bit flimsy, feet seem inclined to turn a bit and let the spikes through, but for the price it's an amazing tripod.

Great piece of gear
I bought this as an upgrade to another standard Manfrotto tripod. I was a bit worried about the size but I wanted a geared centre column. In use this is a great piece of gear. It's heavier than my older Manfrotto tripod but far more stable and the ability to raise the camera with a crank is really great. I was also worried about the use of knobs to release the legs but in practice I find this a better system than the quick snap leg locks on my older tripod. Recommended.

028B Triman Camera Tripod with Geared Center Column
This tripod is everything I dreamed it would be. I've only used it at home so far to shoot birds on my patio bird feeder with my heavy 600 mm Sigma telephoto lens. The geared center column makes all the difference because it allows me to raise or lower the camera easily without having to do it manually. I bought this tripod primarily to use it outside when I photograph animals at the various zoos in the state and I'm hoping it won't be too heavy for me. Wish me luck!!

Beastly heavy, but excellent for elevated shooting
I shoot several events per year where I don't have the time, space, or budget to do an elevated video platform. This tripod makes it super-easy to position the camcorder above adult height to shoot over a crowd at seminars and other events where an elevated shooting position is the only way to keep a clear line of sight. So instead of an expensive elevated camera platform, this plus a small step stool will accomplish the same thing quickly, easily, and inexpensively.

I Love this tripod!
It is very sturdy and very professional. I shoot music videos and short films. This tripod gives me exactly what I need in terms of stability. I find myself making adjustments on my camera in the middle of a shot for aesthetic reasons and it allows me to do so without any shaking or vibrating the camera. It's a bit heavy so it's not really for moving around too much. Other than that, Bravo to this wonderful tripod!

Fantastic, amazing tripod! Solid build yet not very heavy
Very pleased with this tripod, needed something heavier and sturdier for my new Cinevate Duzi Slider + C100 and this did the job well! I love the geared raising of the center neck its so glorious and makes life easy! It's certainly a fine tripod for video field work even though it's sold as a studio tripod. I love it. It's certainly not as tank-ish as a serious heavy duty studio tripod so it perfect for what I do.

Not very portable
OK for studio work for large load, height is good, but... For transporting and out of studio work it is cumbersome and fussy. Leg struts bend and damage easily, takes time to set up. Feet spikes don't bite into ice (hockey team pics). For studio work, it's fine for portraiture but awkward to move around. Doesn't 'go low' for unique product shots. If you buy this, get a second (lighter) tripod for other uses.

Outstanding tripod for mobile usage...
I use this with the Gigapan Pro robotic tripod head, with a massive old Bogen ball head. Had been using a Gitzo, but it was too small: this works extremely well with the Gigapan Pro. At full extension I had to stand on a park bench to operate the Pro head and it remained very, very stable. It isn't the smallest to carry around, but it is eminently portable. I've carried it around NYC in July heat all day.

Stability and Flexibility
I ordered this tripod for my studio after becoming frustrated with the limitations of my previous one -- particularly for raising and lowering a large professional DSLR on a boom with counterweight for shooting product images and videos straight down. The geared function is excellent for making that positioning effortless, and the tripod is a great height and very stable! Very good value for the money!

Good and Sturdy
I'm mainly a real estate photographer, using lots of bracketed photos at slow shutter speeds, and I do some sports videography (dslr) for fun. This tripod is heavy but not cumbersome. I really like the build quality and it is quite stable even when only opened to a small footprint. For video, it solidly supports my 4 foot slider. I just need to complement it with a stronger video head.

Excellent choice for live events with DV
Used in live event captures with GL2s mastered down to DVDs. Just the right size. Fast and easy setup, stable and smooth. An excellent choice for the budget driven. Definately on the lower end of the professional scale but can still easily put out a smooth quality final product. My only question is how this will stand up to wear and tear over the years. We shall see.

Great tripod
I purchased this tripod so I could shoot over peoples heads. Tripod is a reasonable weight, extends well above my other tripods, is sturdy when it is fully extended, easy and quick to set up, and the footprint is smaller than my other ones (important because I shoot in tight spaces with lots of people). I love it and as usual, B&H gave great advice.

My go-to tripod.
I originally bought a pair of these tripods for interviews with two camera shoot. The center column is the perfect solution for quick height adjustments. VERY time saving. I found myself using it many other applications as well. Not crazy about leveling the legs but it does go to about 7 feet so it easily gets above heads when needed. Great product.
