Quick release plate from Manfrotto
I bought two of these quick release mounting plates, one to replace a plate from which the mounting screw had been lost and another for a spare. The mounting screw has a keeper to prevent it from separating from the quick release plate but one of mine failed or was lost and, thus the mounting screw was lost rendering that mounting plate useless. It would be nice if one could just buy a replacement screw

Great Head for Heavy Rigs
I find this to be a great tripod head for use with my heavy macro setups. The movement is smooth in all directions and locks solidly with a simple twist of the handle. The head is heavy but is to be expected since it is designed for heavy setups.

Great support
The only thing I had to get used to was the large handles but I will say that the 229 Super Pro Head does a beautiful job.

over due for upgrades
Have owned this head for three years or so. Had another one in 1999. The handles are uncomfortable cheap junk made to meet a price point. I replaced mine with one and three quarter inch billiard balls. Just right. I don't recommend regulation size. Tried those for a while but eventually removed them. The handles were too long. One reviewer complains of a sticky, or tight, gear. Do not use oil, or expect it to wear in. Oil will cause further tight... Show More

Great for large format
Very stable and solid. Have one (3039 model) for almost 7 years, now need to replace it...

A solid peace of equipment!
I was surprised to learn that B&H had the part in stock. I was ready to buy a new tripod or tripod head. The replacement part has a rubber platform grip that is much better then the original part. Thanks B&H for having the item in stock and saving me some money in the process. R/Very happy customer Quintero

Excellent Tripod Head
If the head is overly tight, use the adjustment nuts under each control handle. Note: they aren't shown on the instructions. Once adjusted this head is far better than the one it replaced.

seriously super pro
this head is made for control freaks and is heavy enough to stabilize the lightest tripod.

Handles in Awkward Places
its easy to adjust and holds well, but the position of the longer handle is awkward if you shoot a lot of vertical shots in studio. basically, the knob hits right at throat level. this wouldnt be a problem if you could swap it out for a shorter one but those two aren't interchnageable

Quick Release for my tripod
Works perfectly. In fact I was concerned because the tripod I have is an older Manfroto and I was concerned I wouldnt be able to get the parts I need for it. But B&H had it!! EXCELLENT service as usual.

Absolutely Brilliant
Definately not the lightest piece of equipment in the kit, but well worth it for the quality. Very easy to make minor adjustments with comfortable grips. Grouped with Manfrotto 190XPROB base makes for a very nice tripod. Biggest benefit for me was confidence in this setup to hold a reasonable weight in almost any position, even when in some comprimising spots shooting landscapes.

pretty good
I use this head with my gitzo carbon fiber legs to support my 4x5 monorail camera. It is a strong tripod head, the grips on the handles are a good shape. Brand new, one gear was tighter than the rest of them, making it more difficult to make fine adjustments. This is frustrating and I am hoping that with more use, the tight gear will get more lubricated/looser.

Love This Head
This is probably the best, professional tripod head I have ever used. It effortlessly holds my DSLR and each handle turns and tightens very easily. The bubble levels are great to make sure you have a level camera, especially for someone who struggles with a getting a level horizon. I have used other, less expensive heads, and have been dissappointed with them all. Either they are too hard to move or not strong enough to hold my camera. The 229 Super Pro Head from Manfrotto blows them all away.

I would buy tiis prodict again and again
Serious hobby with good equipment. Shots mostly from tripod. Digital photography with heavy equipment. Secure camera mounting. Fast flip from landscpe to portrate. Able to level camera without leveling the tripod in most cases. (only pan shots requrie tripod leveling) Handles could be better positioned for shooting up at angles above 25 degrees

Set screw.
After 20+ years of dependable service, the 1/4-20 set screw wiggled it's way out of the Quick Release Plate during transport and was lost. Had that not happened, the Quick Release Plate would have lasted forever. The Manfrotto tripod head and legs are still perfect.

Awesome! Perfect Fit!
Needed a replacement after original was lost.... this plate is better designed And more reliable than the original was! No Cons! If you need it, buy it, you will NOT be disappointed!

I would buy this product again
There are the mounting plates used with the Manfrotto 229 head. Solid! Can not be used with a 804 RC2 head.

Needs better adhesive
Can't they make one of these that won't fall apart? I've owned several of these and the glue always stops holding and the rubber eventually falls off. I owned this one for less than a week before I noticed the glue failing. Unfortunately, I haven't found anything better.

Better than the early Bogen unit
I am a professional and use the unit on a ball head in my studio. This also works on my Bogen tripod head as well so I can quickly switch between cameras. Much faster than changing lenses. I like to keep things simple.I have nothing negative to say about it. But it is greatly improved over the origal with lighter weight and better gripping on the bottome of the camera. The older one requires much more tension to gain the same holding ability.

Super Pro indeed!
I actually bought this head to replace one I had exactly like it - which I lost due to unfortunate circumstances. This is a very high quality head, with excellent, precise control because of the three separate adjustments. Can support medium format (like a Mamiya RZ67) and digital SLR cameras, no problem.

quick release plate
-It is a solid piece of equipment. -Works well with the tripod. -Wish there were a way to push in the knob (screwhead) at the bottom to be flush with the plate so one could quickly go between tripod and hand held shooting.
