BUILT TO LAST

Sep 2, 2018

While shopping for a mini tripod for my soon-to-be Nikon Coolpix P1000, I came across this little Joby. I needed something that was rated for at least 3 to 4 pounds, so I figured at 11 pounds, this wouldn't let me down. And let me tell you, when I opened it, I was like Wow! This thing just screams quality. From the sturdy rubberized feet to the ballhead, this thing is built like a tank, with not so much as a single flaw in fit, form, finish, or f... Show More

Almost perfect, but the stiff head makes it annoying to use

Nov 26, 2017

I bought this tripod to use with my Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II. The camera plus lenses I have come to about 1lb, and this tripod handles it in pretty much every orientation I tried. The slightly smaller size compared to the GorillaPod 1K/Hybrid makes it the perfect size and weight for traveling light. The legs aren't quite as long or stiff as the 1K/Hybrid, but it's perfect for what I need. The only negative thing, which is also the reason I'm r... Show More

Works Great for my Canon M50 Mirrorless!

Jun 11, 2018

This thing is so versatile! I use it all the time for both video and photography. I wasn't sure if the 1k capacity would work well for my Canon M50 mirrorless (Joby's description says it works for "most" mirrorless cameras), but it has been perfect! I've used cheap flexible tripods before with other cameras, and have never been happy. This one is SO MUCH BETTER than anything else out there. Even with the lens adapter and using larger diameter EF ... Show More

Poor quality, over-optimistic weight range

Aug 18, 2019

I purchased this 2 years ago and used it perhaps 5-6 times under very easy conditions. I hadn't used it more often because I found the weight rating to be a bit optimistic - I'd purchased the correct model for the camera/lens combo I usually use but still found it to wiggle quite a bit, needing to use a 10-second timer or remote to give it time to settle down. Just went to use it today and the plate assembly literally fell apart before I could ev... Show More

It's ok

Sep 13, 2018

I bought this in hopes of not carrying my full size tripod around everywhere while on holiday. I hoped it would hold a D750 with a 50mm lens. It did with the legs upright but when extended out to the sides, to get a lower vantage point, the legs would not hold the weight. If the legs were extended beyond about 45 degrees, they would not hold the weight of my camera/lens combo. I don't think it weighs more than the 6lb rating of the tripod. I also... Show More

Extremely useful and portable

Aug 15, 2019

I am not a fan of carrying tripods around NYC as it can get tiring and annoying going through the subway with a large one. When I found out about this I saved up my money and bought myself one of these. I still enjoy long exposure photography and if I lived in any other city a regular sized tripod would probably not be so much of a problem. But this gorilla pod fits easily in my bag with my camera and a few other lenses which makes it less of a p... Show More

Upstanding edition from Joby

Apr 8, 2018

This is my first Gorillapod as I saw reviews on previous generations and the designs appeared to have significant flaws. This version appears to have fixed the previous flaws and works exactly as intended: grabbing onto rails/rigid structure, standing steadily on three legs, or being manipulated in any manner as to foundate my Canon 6D + 35mm L II lens. I have wrapped the legs around bars/rails quite a bit and see no degradation in joint strength... Show More

Great for travel

Jun 11, 2019

There are times when you travel and wish you had a tripod. This one did it for me. It's sturdy but flexible and the ball head is very good. Don't get me wrong. This is NO SUBSTITUTE for a carbon fiber tripod or even a less-expensive aluminum unit (I have both) but it doesn't weight much ... fits into a backpack or over the shoulder bag .... or in a carry-on suitcase. I found it be perfect for my Canon SL2 or GX5 when I want it for a sunset or in ... Show More

Good combo

Apr 29, 2019

This is a good combination kind a want both of these tripods what I like about it is the silver it gets as high as my normal heavy duty tripod but its light its Sturdy and it compacts down very nicely and easy to pack around and the JOBY I had looked at these and thought do I really want something like that they look a little dorky but now that I have it and Ive been able to use a little bit I just love this thing because I can wrap it around som... Always with me tripod

Aug 19, 2019

As we travel about photographing landscapes and wildlife, I often wished I had a tripod along. But with the amount of hiking we do to our destinations, the normal tripod was just a bit too much extra baggage to carry along. I now have the Gorillapod strapped to my backpack and it is always with me ready to go when the situation warrants that extra stability for the perfect shot. It wraps about fence posts, tree limbs, interpretative signs, etc or... Show More

Clutch if youre on the go

Dec 4, 2018

I was looking at something compact that can support a Hefty Full frame with a medium zoom attached, this did this trick and its very light weight and can be thrown in any back pack really. I cant say its perfect, but its quite versatile and steady if placed correctly. Im currently residing in NYC and it fits well for the fast paced on the go lifestyle. I wouldnt recommend using this tripod on a windy day/night or somewhere theres excessive vibration like the bridges, or an overpass for example. Other than that, this tripod is a very useful tool that does not break the bank.

Love it - Wish it was a little longer

Jul 28, 2018

Very useful little tripod! I use it often for my point and shoot for YouTube videos when vlogging, but I also use it to hold my D750 when setting up multiple angles for interview recordings. Easy to use and set up at different angles on a variety of surfaces, even though the legs are pretty stiff at first use. I wish the legs were also a few inches longer so I could get wider views, as well as having it stand taller on flat surfaces. But great tripod all-in-all. Love that it's secure and strong enough to hold heavy cameras but also light weight to be easily carried around.

Some limits but what I wanted

Nov 9, 2019

I mounted a Vanguard ball head on the Gorillapod with no problems. The versatility is its strong point, stability can be an issue with my DSLR. If it's straight up it's pretty solid but a little less so when flexed into odd positions or when you turn the camera portrait, you just have to let it quit shaking. It satisfies 2 things I wanted it for though, being able to use it in odd places (like the edge of a table) and easy to carry (with the ball head attached it straps to my bag). Getting the legs completely straight again might drive you nuts, they don't bend easy.

Great for traveling

Jan 17, 2019

I purchased this tripod for my Nikon D7200 when my wife and I were about to go on our honeymoon. We were going oversees so I wanted something light and easy to carry around. This Gorillapod worked great, held my camera with no issue, and I didnt miss having a full height tripod because I could always find a tree, pole, wall, etc to mount the tripod higher if needed. This Gorillapod was very small and light so we could take it anywhere in a backpack without feeling like it was slowing us down. I would highly recommend this tripod, especially for traveling light

A bit weak in the legs

Feb 28, 2020

I was hoping for something a bit sturdier. Yes, it's an alternative to my metal tripods & definitely easier to pack and carry. But when I put my camera on it, with a lens that makes the total weight well below this tripod's claimed limits, it's too shaky for a long exposure. A colleague says he gets the best results by wrapping it around a solid object like a lamppost, but sometimes I just want to put my tripod down and have it do its job. I'll keep trying with this, but I'm a bit disappointed so far.

Put it in your backpack now!

Mar 8, 2019

Great little GorillaPod. The ball head kit works super well. I have not experienced the issues I saw with quality in other reviews. The legs are stable and a little stiff, but they hold their positions well. Still flexible enough to wrap around rails. Good size too so it is easy to just throw in your pack and forget about it. I did not take out my tripod once during my four days shooting around NYC. Did videos and long exposures and they all came out great.

Put this almost anywhere and it works

light weight and easy to carry in your bag or suitcase. This is a small but very useful tool. I carry both the Joby GorillaPod and my Manfofototto befree travel tri-pop when I'm traveling. Love them both but the Joby is more rugged and it seems to in use more. Maybe its because it sets up with little effort. Maybe its because it can be used in a variety of ways. If y ou want big this is not the item for you but if you want a tool you will use buy the Joby.

Great product, works perfectly, solves many problems

Aug 27, 2018

Excellent design and build quality. I tried one of the "knock-off's" and it is nowhere near as good as this. From mounting my video production monitor to my tripod (a SmallHD AC-7 with a gold mount battery -- lots of weight) to putting a third camera into a tight space hanging from a ceiling beam, this GorilllaPod will always be in my production bag for when a special need arises. A real problem solver. And, a nice tabletop or floor level tripod as well.

Perfect for a full-size DSLR & lens

Oct 6, 2018

I've always liked the concept of GorillaPods. But earlier ones didn't have the construction strength to deliver their unusual benefits on my full-size, full-frame DSLR and lens for travel (Canon 5D Mk III & 24-105 f//4 L II). This one is perfect! And the ball head is a major plus for fast and easy mounting. Strong, secure, rigid. No worries about sag or collapse (so far at least). All that and B&H's unmatched service. Highly recommended. Thank you.

Great addition to my gear

Dec 12, 2019

I bought this to use primarily for macro spring flower shots and I am sure I will not be disappointed. The combo of the Tampon 90mm macro and my DSLR are completely stable and the ballhead is fluid, turning easily in the socket. I haven't tested it on a larger lens as yet but I feel confident that it will handle something quite a bit larger that the Tammy. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a lightweight compact gorilla pod.

GorillaPod - Perfect

Apr 15, 2019

I received my GorillaPod 5K a few weeks back and found it to be the perfect solution for taking both low to the ground landscape photos as well as being used on table tops for indoor photography. Easy to carry and fully supports my Nikon D800 with a DF-S Nikkor F2.8 24-70 mm lens attached. I use other lens as well with this tripod however the one described above is the heaviest. Yes, I definitely recommend this product.

A useful tool

Dec 27, 2019

Let's be honest: all tripods are a tradeoff between weight and stability. Unless you really need that full-size tripod strapped to your backpack and are OK walking around with that all day, this is a great alternative. It did a fine job holding up a D750 with a 70-300 FX lens attached. The feet have a good grip of any surface, and the joints are just stiff enough to stay in place. The ball head works smoothly.

This gorilla is real beast!

Sep 8, 2018

I'm really impressed by the quality of this product. Very, very well made and I'm sure it will last a long ride. It's super versatile and the applications for it are endeless. Either use it as a regular floor or tabletop tripod, as a gimbal, or twist the leg to attach it everywhere almost. I also use it with my Yongnuo LED light wand as a holder. You should have one of these in your gig bag.

A must for your photogaphykit

May 23, 2018

This small tripod is perfect for DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras and unlike other brands or as I like to call them imitation knock-offs, this is stable and can handle almost any weigh digital camera. If you're doing any type of time-lapsephotography or need to have a steady grip on your camera at a low angle then the Joby GorillaPod is a wise investment. Reliable and at a good price too.
