I love this camera!

Apr 30, 2016

I absolutely love this camera. I upgraded to a7II from a Canon APS-C and I am very happy with a7II. The image quality is great and in-body image stabilization is amazing. The EVF is quite good. Auto focus is quick. The 28-70mm lens is compact and light. Center sharpness of 28-70mm is good. Edge isn't very sharp when wide open, but is reasonably good when stopped down. For a $300 kit lens, I am satisfied. Since it's a Sony E-mount, I can adapt oth... Show More

Bye Canon. Hello Sony

May 11, 2015

This camera is a techno marvel!!!! The camera body is amazing. Equipped with image stabilization on the body is genius!!! WIFI, 24mp full frame sensor. Just to name a few features. The 28-70mm kit lens is ok, but if you are buying this caliber of camera body you probably have better lenses to attach anyways. I've enjoyed exploring all the functions of this camera so far. I'd say it's as user friendly as my Canon cameras are. Menus easily laid out... Show More

My Introduction into Mirrorless

Jun 14, 2017

People raved about mirrorless , so I gave it a try. I have to say I was very impressed with this camera. I am a long time film shooter from 35mm, medium format, and 4x5 view cameras. Digital, I have been exclusive to Canon and Nikon DSLR. Why? Because I hated Electric Viewfinders. I have to say that I love EVF now. Do I prefer them? Not particularly, meaning it really doesn't matter to me, but truly appreciate the advantages that it brings to the... Show More

Sony Alpha a7 ll Decent Camera

May 28, 2019

After losing all camera gear in the recent fire in Paradise, CA, I purchased this camera in a move from Nikon to the Sony platform thinking this was the time for this move. I had this camera with 28-70 mm lens for just over a week, then decided to move back to my trusty and reliable Nikons. Note my review is based on years of experience doing commercial real estate photography, most recently (until the Camp Fire), and a several years teaching dig... Show More

The best full frame mirrorless for the money

Apr 11, 2019

I love!!! this little camera and there is nothing little about it! It is the best full frame mirrorless I have used and probs best in class even compared to DSLR for the price range. If you need to shoot everything in a professional body (weather proofed and sealed) with excellent auto focus or even manual focus (that excepts other lenses with adapters) this is it!!! look no further. It is the be all and do all. For the money this model is classy... Show More

Use it with Nikon Ai legacy lenses

Jan 16, 2015

I use it mostly for video work and street photography, the new codec its great just learn to use the Picture profiles to get the most out of it in Grading, find within the picture profile and bring down detail to the lowest this will smooth the video a lot. With the firmware update the stabilization in video improved a lot, do it as soon as you get the camera.I'm moving from a d610 and wouldn't go back, it is a lot lighter and people don't get in... Five Stars for getting to the basics

Feb 22, 2018

Five stars for getting to the basics. I would rate its more expensive siblings at less than 5 stars, cuz the price difference is out of proportion. The basic a7-II is a fine machine, not perfect, but not expensive. Its "hot rodded" version [the "S" and "R" variants] are basically this camera with a couple of improvements that MOST users will not benefit from ... surely, some few WOULD benefit. The a7 series is currently the ONLY 24x36mm format l... Show More

Outstanding Camera

Oct 17, 2015

This is an amazing camera. it is 1/4 the size of my Nikon D3 and packs a wallop in image quality. I am a professional photographer who is left wanting in Nikon's lineup of mirrorless cameras. I tried the Fuji XT-1 and Olympus before deciding on the Sony. I decided on the A7ii as my entry into Sony. If I didn't like it, I'd return it: I'm keeping it. The Sony handles well and feels great in my hand. It is small for sure but feels like my old Penta... Show More

Traveling the world with this Camera!

Dec 1, 2015

I've been traveling the world for over 6 months with this camera. It's been absolutely superb. Some paint is missing but no problems. Can't wait for 2 more years of it! I typically carry it with the zeiss 35/2.8, which allows it to be VERY light. I am blown away by the claims of horrendous battery life. What are you guys doing? I use this camera every day and I've only ever had to swap batteries when I shot my friends wedding. I can shoot hundred... Show More

Nice upgrade from the original A7

Feb 20, 2018

I've slowly been coaxed over to the dark mirrorless side. While my favorite camera is a digital M, which is technically a mirrorless camera, I've been loathe to use an EVF camera. When the original A7's dipped below $1k I picked one up to use a film scanner with a Leica BEOON. After experimenting with a few adapters to try out my M glass (some Leica and some Zeiss) and a few Zeiss SLR lenses, I soon came to see the utility of the A7 series with ... Show More

Its worth the money

Dec 6, 2018

For the price around $1000 its good choice if youre looking for full frame camera. The only thing which always upsets me - battery. Battery life is terrible low, in low temperature conditions it just a pain. I use it for street photography with manual lenses, so for now I dont feel that I should upgrade to a7 III, I dont need these newest AF features, IQ is same, maybe higher ISO performance, but no a7 II do everything well. I had just thoughts a... Show More

Switching to mirrorless from DSLR

Mar 25, 2015

I am switching from a Canon 6D to a mirrorlesas full frame. My main reason is size and weight. I have had GREAT results with the 6D with my go to lens the 24-105L. However, the combo is bulky and not conducive to travel photography/video and family snapshots. Others have commented on how Sony has rocked the foundations of digital a bit and I agree. This is not my first sony camera (my wife uses an RX10) and have had really good results. I say up ... Show More

Upgraded from an a6000, DO NOT BUY

Feb 18, 2019

I wanted to like this camera, I really did. I purchased it and have only been able to take 5 pictures over the course of 2 days. My main problem with this camera lies within the software and hardware working together. There is a known problem with this specific model where the IBIS causes the camera to crash and render it unusable. I guess I had the case of it wont happen to me and this ended up biting me in the butt. The camera will turn on an... Show More

I might have gotten a lemon BUT

Feb 23, 2018

1. The auto switch from monitor to viewfinder is absolutely useless. You can't take a photo from below your waist - the monitor shuts off (google this EVERYONE complains about it) your only choice is to put it on monitor or viewfinder and then go into a complicated menu to change it (impossible). HORRIBLE design. 2. The date on the camera needs to be reset every time I change the battery. And that also is with a complicated menu. 3. Shooting into... Show More

Sony Support IS A JOKE and Does Not Exist

Aug 2, 2016

I recently purchased a Sony A7 II camera. The finished photographs are very very nice. However, when looking through the viewfinder in a dim lit room, the image becomes extremely grainy. And, this happens with the current firmware on the camera updated and using a Sony E mount lens and Sony flash. The image becomes so grainy that you can hardly see the image. I have used the Sony A7 camera and the Sony NEX VG20 and this problem does not exist. I ... Show More

Good camera with a great sensor and too many options.

Nov 19, 2016

I have been shooting with Leica for many years. From films to M8. Had been waiting for a reasonably priced FF digital camera and after some long debate, I have settled with the A7II. It is a well made camera with a great sensor, and it works with most of my Leica lenses (50mm Summulux, 35mm Summilux, 75mm Summarit). My 21mm Summarit does show some fall out and color cast at the corners but I might be able to crop them out. I had considered the A7... Show More

Everything I expected it to be

Sep 28, 2017

Bought this camera to back up my Sony a7r, a fine camera for the tripod work I usually do. But the a7r is less than great off the tripod. Without image stabilization, you have to shoot live subjects at relatively high speeds while autofocus is relatively slow. The a7II fills both of those gaps. It's great for live shots and in lower-light venues. At 24 mega pixels, its sensor offers resolution as fine as Sony's a99, until recently Sony's top of t... Show More

It is well built, highly customizable. Once you get used to the EVF you wonder why it has taken so long to be added.
