The very best

Not much else to say really! This tripod is rock solid and a pleasure to use. Proper stability for my 600mm F4 ED FL on my RRS BH-55 for bird photography.

A beautiful creation!

Jul 1, 2018

The GT4543LS is sturdy and matches my Sigma 150-600mm Sports/Nikon D750 perfectly. A beautiful and practical tripod. In bird photography, shooting with big/heavy lenses at 600mm (900mm with crop body), any vibration will kill the shot. Though a series 3 tripod may sufficed for my current set up, decided to go for a series 4. The solid construction is likely to last for years and a series 4 will be able to accommodate a 600mm prime and pro body, if I were to upgrade in the near future. Two thumbs up for the GT4543LS!

Sharpness demands this tripod.

I focus stack the orchids I grow with Leica medium format that are made up of many images. The lenses require absolute stability. This tripod which has no center column is chosen for me, 6'6". The legs do not bend and the feet do not shift. This tripod is a rock!

Gitzo GT3533LS Review

May 20, 2018

Well I've owned a few aluminum tripods but they were a bit flimsy and didn't hold up in the wind. This tripod gave me no insecurity and was lite for it's size. I doubt if I'll ever need a different model again

Perfect for long telephoto lens

May 17, 2018

I bought the Gitzo Series 5 tripod because of the load capacity and stability. It is dedicated for use with a long and heavy telephoto lens in conjunction with my gimbal head. The stability of the tripod is just superb. There is no shake with shooting at a high frame rate.

Best and last tripod

May 8, 2018

Recently went to Costa Rica with a Gitzo series 2. Many of my fellow photographers had the series 5 and it looked so great. When I got off the plane in Nashville I ordered the series 5. It is great. B/H got it to me in record time and with no hassles. It will be my last tripod. Handles my Nikon 500mm f4 just the way I have wanted. Not cheap but quality never is. I am using it now in Canada and will be using it for many years to come.

Solid As a Rock

May 5, 2018

This tripod is as solid as a rock--even fully extended. It arrived in pristine condition. It screams quality, and will last a very very long time (can probably be passed down a generation if you take care of it). I took the plunge and bought the GT5543XLS and the GS5513XLS because I fully appreciate the fact that 90% of tripods are not built to last and require replacement every couple years. Truth is: Sub-quality tripods can be extremely prob... Show More

Why did I wait so long?

Apr 8, 2018

As an amateur who loves wildlife and birds, I have spent hundreds of dollars on five tripods over the past 20 years. I finally decided to kick in the big bucks and get the Wimberley and Gitzo tripod. On the first time out with a 300mm f/2.8 lens and Nikon 850 body, I was able to easily balance the combo and quickly and comfortably track hummingbirds! For me, this was far easier to use than any of the previously tried tripods with conventional or ball heads, and I was able to get a far larger percentage of frames with focused birds. Sorry I didn't get the combo years ago!

Amazing

Mar 29, 2018

This tripod is fantastic. I use it with a Canon 600mm f/4 and it handles it very well. I carry the lens on the tripod over my shoulder and feel totally secure. I use it with a Whimberley gimbal head. Really easy to extend and tighten the legs, and vise versa. Surprisingly light, even with with the large gimbal head attached. I'm 5'11, I don't use a center extension with this tripod and with the 600mm on the gimbal, all the way down, it sits just below my eye level.

Arrived missing friction washer on one leg. Legs tend to slip even when firmly tightened. Tripod feet will not stay on; already lost one. What a piece of junk!

solid and so worth the price

Feb 25, 2018

The price was a huge hurdle for me but once I got my tripod in hand and started using it I'm glad I made the purchase. I love the hight and am amazed at how solid of a base it makes for my camera. I have paired this with Wimberley Wh-200 so we'll see what hiking with it is like soon but so far the money I've shelled out for this is more than worth it!

Very expensive but worth it

Feb 22, 2018

I have wanted one of these tripods for many years but only recently pulled the trigger. For the longest time I was using a heavy aluminum Bogen but with increasingly strict luggage restrictions, I needed something that folded shorter and weighed a bit less. The Gitzo series 5 XL is very sturdy for its weight ( 7lb) and folds down to a reasonable length. Initially I was going to choose the long model but Im glad I went with the XL two of three sec... Gitzo Systematic

Feb 15, 2018

This has been a great tripod, yes it is on the heavy side but knowing this prior to the purchase was not a surprise. For the me, the other benefits were worth it over the total weight of the tripod. The ground level option is great, the option to buy a rapid center column was fine and I was able to put the head on that I wanted, not just accept what came with it. Its very sturdy, supports my camera and lens with no issues

Solid Support

Dec 14, 2017

I have avoided Gitzo because of the price but this is the most stable tripod I have ever owned. Great feet get a solid grip on the surface and the tripod is stable at all heights from close to the ground to its full height. A hook under the centre plate allows weights to be hung on the tripod to significantly increase its weight (another reason I have avoided carbon fibre tripods). The twist locks are not an issue in terms of speed and the diamet... Show More

This is a pro level heavy duty tripod. I use it with a gimbal head setup and long lenses. I'm sure there are lots of good tripods out there, but a pro recommended this for my needs. I don't regret my purchase. The build quality is excellent and it offers a very stable platform. It's not cheap, but you get what you pay for. If you frequently shoot on uneven terrain as I do, you'll want this longer version. Currently, I have a RRS BH-55 ball head mounted on it...a very stable combination at all heights. I use this tripod as a support for Canon 200mm F2 and 400mm F2.8 lenses and it is solid as a rock at all heights - and it does extend very high. Of course, you might feel that for the price you should also be able to drive it to the supermarket but if you restrict its use to what was intended, it will not let you down. I bought this for my new Nikon 400mm 2.8 lens and man I can't be more satisfied. Extremely lightweight and easy to handle. Quick to set up and I especially love the fact that it goes from 68 inches down to 3 inches so you can stand sit or lie down on your belly and shoot if that's what the situation demands. Astonishing heigh & quality at a cost

Jun 19, 2017

The thing is -- I reasoned with myself about the cost of this, and in the end, I said f* it, I'm gonna make this investment and never have to invest in a tripod again for a veery long time, if ever. Gitzo is even beyond the classic 535 sticks I used to own. This crazy things skies out at 9' and those lunar lander feet still feel like nothing can shake it at all. A monster in every way, including cost. Worth it.
