MDR-V6 Better than expected...
I'm completely surprised by these headphones. I've been reading a lot of reviews before actually making this purchase. It's a surprise how old or really how long Sony has been making these particular headphones. It reproduces great bass and excellent highs. Great Product at a great price
If you are looking for a great set of headphones for the money, the Sony MDR V6 are a good choice. I won't ramble on about all the technical jargon, there are many reviewers far more knowledgeable than I on this site to do that. I bought these for personal use around home, with computers, I Touch, etc. and simply put,they sound great to my ears! Amazing sound!
I purchased the Sony MDR-V6 headphones to replace my aging Sony MDR-V4 'phones, and they are worthy successors indeed. This headphone came out in the 80's I believe, and it's still considered people's favourite headphones (upon researching reviews).... I can't be happier. Good for editing or just listening to high fidelity recordings. The power required to drive these phones and the physical weight of them are not suitable for small MP3 players and bus-ride listening. V6's are very precise and don't get muddy during complexly layered tracks. Frequency response is relatively flat down to 30 Hz, with no noticeable coloration. Outstanding product
Very honest sound. I use these for tracking acoustic guitar and every sound, good and bad, comes through clearly. I've used many different headphones for this purpose over the years, and these are by far the best. These headphones are indispensable for both home and pro studios. Best value in closed phones available.
If sound isolation is what you need,these will be hard to beat at any price; Open cans is another story. I remember when these were the Best Buy in Consumer Reports over 2 decades ago(I am 63 years old). My first pair I sold, in working condition, after a mere 17 years. Sturdy, good sound, reasonably priced
My first headphones broke. I got the Sony MDR-6 after reading several B&H customer reviews. They liked it for its sturdy build. I also like that it folds nicely into a small pack (provided with the purchase). The headphone-in plug comes with a converter to XLR size. Should have bought these YEARS AGO
I produce a nationally syndicated show using audio recorded at different times, in different places, by different people, and mix them to sound like a single occurrence. Differing backgrounds are a HUGE factor for me. These let me hear everything from an off-mic whispered conversation to an AC system kicking on at the other end of the room. If I see even the lowest levels - I will hear a source sound. Due to the uncolored nature of the MDR-V6s I have the added comfort of knowing everyone will hear my production in as pleasant a manner as possible even EQ'ed to their own preference.

Blown away by the sound quality
Forget equalizers, forget loud volume...The quality of these cans is such they place you at the center of whatever music you are listening. I hear now instruments I didnt hear before, in songs Ive heard hundreds of times already. The fidelity is such you will find yourself the intention of sound engineers who recorded each piece...At the end of the day, that is what we all listen. I am so happy that I ordered the twin brother of this marvel: The MDR-7206. Ive loved Sony electronics for 40 years already and they have neverlet me down. Great set of headphones!
I remember, as a DJ, that 10-15 years ago Sony 7506's were hard to find and sought after. These v6's have the same durable build as the 7506's and sound great and are plenty comfy. They are the consumer version of the pro 7506, but I find no compromises. I'm using them at work and love them. I have a pair of V600's as my current DJ phones, and these outshine them by far- wish I had the $ to justify another pair of these V6's to replace them! (And I'm actually keeping the V6's at work because I spend more time in them there and they are more comfortable). Highly recommended.

Excellent sound
I give these headphone 5 stars because the sound quality is very nice for the price. I have never paid this much for headphone but I don't regret it. My only negative about the headphones would be the size. I am unable to make it four stars because I know what I was buying. I wish it had a volume wheel. This wish is because my iPod classic isn't loud enough. I am yet to try another mp3 player. I tried on a pc and it sounds even better and it's much much louder. Buy them. What sold me is that everyone says they last years and years... Which make the the value even better.

Best headphones for the money
These headphones rock, I bought them after my bose AE were stolen and I am much happier with them overall. At only $, these are well worth every penny. They are on par, if not better in sound quality over the bose that I had. The cable is only attached at one side, which makes for putting the headphones on and taking them off easier. Also, the cable is curled so you will not have a problem with tangled, knotted, or kinked cables anymore. Overall, the sound quality is awesome, the build is sturdy, they fold up easily for portability, and the cord is user friendly.

Solidly Made, Good Sound
I use these primarily for watching television/DVDs, because partial hearing loss makes headphones better than speakers. Had numerous sets of Sennheisers, but they were flimsy, esp. in the cable, and did not last long. These seem much more robust than the Sennheisers. First pair of Sonys held up well for 2 years (avg. life of Sennheisers), but were accidentally destroyed. Sound quality is comparable (to my damaged ears) between the two brands, but Sony is louder, perhaps because of over the ear, rather than on-ear design. Ears can get a bit warm with extended use.

Sony headphones - Can you buy happiness?
My intial listening trials ended with some disappointment. The mid range was a bit shrill at high volume. Then I turned off my equalizer. Wow! My Sony MDR-6 studio monitors were now kicking out uncolored flat sound. How many superlatives can one think of between Ah and Zowie? They haven't been off my head since. Wearer's fatigue: zero Delighted with these venerable old cans and would recommend them to anyone. Con: The only issue I have is the coiled cord. It is not as tightly wrapped as my old Sonys and it gets easily tangled with itself, usually with me in it.

Not just for the Pro audio folks
As an Amateur Radio operator these headphones are outstanding. They are light weight, cover the ear comfortably, and sound amazing! The coiled cord has plenty of length. The only downside are the ear pads wearing out. Now they will last for years but be aware they will tear where they attach to the ear piece over time. You can purchase replacements so don't let this stop you from buying these headphones. These are similar to the MDR-7506 and they are NOT similar to the MDR-V600....The MDR-V600 is a poor unit and only buy the MDR-V6 or the pro audio MDR7506.

Headphones, great price, ipod perfect
I own a set of Bose Headphones, noise canceling monsters that are unreal, but big ole, heavy things, I needed some phones for my Son's Ipod and after all the reviews it came down to these, I listened to the Monster phones, yea great sound, but these Sony Phones are just as good, for a fraction of the price, and I cannot imagine, how that little box pumps out the energy, but you do not need an extra amp, not for the ipod anyway, would not have believed it, but you cannot go wrong, go slip on a pair somewhere, but for $, it is no gamble. B & H top retailer!

Excellent Stereo Headphones
I bought these headphones to replace my uncomfortable Sony MDR-V150's. These headphones are used for late night listening or when my wife doesn't want me playing my home stereo. They sound great and are easy to listen to for long periods of time without discomfort. I have had open back Sennheisser's in the past but I much prefer a closed back design. It was either the Sony MDR-V6 or Sennheisser HD-280. Because of my past experience with both brands I chose the Sony's. Very satisfied with my decision. Great for late night trance music listening.

My search for headphones started with an ambition for to find the best noise cancelling headphones. I ultimately found that they were 1. bose qc15, 2. bose qc33. sony MDR-NC500Din the process of this search, I found the MDR-v6's at a sony store. the salesman informed me that these are the music industry standard. they retail for $110, b&h hand them for $ and the sound quality beats all 3 of the above listed $300+ headphones (granted, you lose noise cancelling). these headphones are a steal. stop reading and just buy them. you won't regret it.

V6s are a great studio headphone
I've been using Sony MDR-V6 headphones in the studio since the early 1990s. They have good imaging, are excellent for tracking lead vocals & other overdubs. I don't generally use headphones to do mixing other than checking imaging & reverbs. That said the mixes I have done using the V6s have translated very well to other speaker systems. They are built well (I still have a pair I bought back in the 90s that still work great) and are comfortable to wear. I personally prefer them over the Sony 7506s - to my ears they have a more balanced tone.

best headphones i've tried
....im comparing this side to side with shp8900 for music listening. with the mdrv6, i can hear so much details especially the bass, that very clear bass i couldn't hear with the shp8900i know this is a monitoring headphones. my band has other plans, but i'm happy keeping it for music listening.the construction oozes quality. i must admit, being a monitoring headphone, it is not very comfortable as it feels tightthis is my first time buying from bhphotovideo after many years of lurking. i can't believe the low prices here at this site.

Awesome!Can't believe I got them for $ US at B&H. Impressive sound quality, sounds better than a lot of more expensive headphones. I now understand why they are considered a studio standard. I'd add, this is a gold standard for any studio :)I use them with my Korg Kronos keyboard, with my computer to listen to music and in my studio. The sound will improve with use and reach its peak after 100hours of usage, approximatively.Only cons : wires near the headcuffs are exposed, but I heard people could keep them in good shape for 10+ yrs.
