ECM-77B - Miniature Omni-Directional Lav

Mar 17, 2011

We've used these small mics in our TV studio for years. They so small yet have great sound quality. They are very durable and completely reliable.

Great Lav Mic

Feb 28, 2011

Added this Sony microphone to my field gear. Easy to set up and use with the XLR inputs on my camera, delivers great audio every time. Small mic head does not stand out when clipped on lapels in interview shots or is easily hidden beneath clothes. Comes with multiple clips for varied use.

Dependable and cost effective mic

Oct 19, 2010

This is a great mic for the price. The small size of the mic capsule makes it nearly invisible to the camera and it sounds great. While I also like the MKE2 it's hard to justify the expense when this one works great. Replacement windscreens and clips are pricey. Overall a great product.

Liked so much, I bought it twice

Sep 16, 2010

I originally purchased this mic about three years ago and have used it for about 30-40 interviews. The sound quality is outstanding, even with people who tend to speak quietly. I recently purchased a second one since I was running in to shoots requiring two interviews in a single shot and I wanted the audio to match. The mic cord gives you plenty of length so you can position the camera a decent distance from your subject. Nice and clear audio, voices sound very natural. Great mic, can't complain.

Reliable and great quality sound

Aug 2, 2010

We use these microphones for weekly scheduled webcasts of our product presentations and product launches. These webcasts are initially presented live, but are recorded for internal on-demand viewing. The Sony microphones have great sound quality and are very small so they are not distracting to the viewer. I have never had an issue and these microphones are easy to use for our sometime novice guest presenters. I believe it is better to pay a little more money for a product that is going to provide good quality and last for a long period of use.

Great performance and quality!

May 27, 2010

We had purchased two of these mics last year to use on our weekly show. We also had two other mics of a different of a name. They were not nearly the quality of the ECM-77B. They work great and the sound quality is awesome!

Overall, VERY good mic

Mar 4, 2010

As a local news photog. I have used the same ECM-77B mic for over 10 years through the extremes of Chicago weather without a problem. I am of strong belief that audio should be heard and not seen, and these mics allow for a great compromise of sound quality and size. I know there are better sounding lavs, but the ones I have experience with have been too bulky for my comfort. I take care of my gear as best I can, and as I've said, brutal winters, humid summers, strong wind and rain, and the abuse of local news and reporters have not stopped this mic from working problem free.

Great standard

This is our main mic for :30 broadcast commercial productions. We've used older versions of this mic for years and now have a new one. It's a great all around mic used for many settings.

Great mic

Jul 20, 2009

Great sound. Easy to use. Might be good to get some moleskin to cut clothing rustle and other noise if you clip mic under clothing. This mic is great for interviews. I also have a Sennheiser wireless setup, stick mic (RE50), and a couple shotguns. This will be my main mic for interviews though. Though mine is new, I've heard from lots of colleagues that this is a very durable mic.

The microphone is of high quality He is simply too small, and great discretion. Its quality is great for professional productions. Use it with the Camera Sony Z7.

Excellent Product

May 26, 2008

I'm a novice filmmaker, and I've had some experience with the ECM-55's, but these work just as well. As I don't own both models, I can't give a fair comparison, but they are already paying for themselves. I've shot both indoors and outdoors, and they seem to isolate the dialog particularly well from the ambient. I'm very pleased.

Pricey industry standard

May 8, 2008

This is my field lav. I like it for its durability, long cable and epic battery life. Its sonic characteristics and quality are acceptable but don't compare favorably with comparable units from Sonotrim, Voice Technologies or Tram, specially in terms of price. Additionally, their accessories are also pretty pricey. Overall, a satisfactory mic, but you are paying a premium for the SONY name.
