Great camera with just a few quirks

Oct 15, 2016

I have had this camera for about a month and a half. In that time I have shot maybe 500 photos with it with a surprising number of them keepers. My other camera is a Sony a77m2 which I have really liked from the beginning. The difference is the a7ii can produce very good photos in conditions the a77ii cannot. It shoots far cleaner at higher ISO's and has more data in raw uncompressed mode which allows me to make even better photos in post process... Show More

A Pleasant Surprise

Feb 26, 2016

I never saw a need to upgrade from my A7 to the mark II version, but when the A7 got destroyed in an accident and I ordered the A7II as a replacement I got a pleasant surprise. The uncompressed RAW format (I had to upgrade the firmware for that; download from the Sony site) may give only a slightly better dynamic range, but it minimizes the halos between strong light/dark edges to almost nonexistent, which is a big timesaver in PP. And although I... Show More

Coming from Nikon D610 - a7ii --- WOW

Dec 30, 2014

First, the 4 star is because of the way sony has skimped on accessories:1. default external power adapter.2. screen protector like the nikon.3. More lenses, before more new cameras.4. Menu is still little confusing.Coming to the actual product:1. Beautiful, compact build. Yes, it takes some time to get used to the EVF from the OVF. I will reserve my judgement for later. But this is what makes the camera so compact.2. I have not owned a7, so not s... Show More

A Full Frame Beast

Dec 15, 2017

I come from video, and had lenses for my VG900. Previously I had an a6000 for stills, which is a good camera but struggles in low light without full frame. Looking to migrate to wedding photography instead of video, I checked this out since its an entry level FF. Did not disappoint. As with any camera, lenses matter. I was used to the menu functions as its the same as other Sonys, a small learning curve but pretty easy to figure out. Others ment... Show More

My 1st Mirrorless and I am impressed!!!!

Dec 27, 2015

I am not a pro but very enthusiastic about photography, I was shooting with canon and acquired few cannon lenses and extras overtime, I Shoot with a rebel due to the fact that weigh of the camera is very important for me since i start developing wrist pain and won't be able to use my camera gears. First impressions

Jan 31, 2015

I am a new enthusiast. First camera which is the a6000 which I like and is wonderfully light. Added the a711 for a few reasons. Seems like most of the best lens development is focused toward the FE platform in the future. Love the in camera stabilization, but also some little features. Got it with the 16-35 wide angle zoom. Like the auto APS-C mode so I can use my APS-c emount lenses. The one button that allows a quick autofocus while in manual f... Show More

Great for Legacy Lenses

Jun 2, 2019

I enjoy still photography and prefer using my older, manual focus lenses. The A7 II provides in-body stabilization and effective magnification (approximately 5x and 10x) so getting perfect focus...even with manual focus lenses and 70 year-old eyes...is easy. I have two manual lenses that I simply love. One is my Nikon 50mm f/1.2 AI-S lens and the other is a Voigtlander 58mm f/1.4 lens with a Nikon mount. I mount both lenses to the A7 II using a... Very happy

Mar 1, 2017

I purchased this camera to replace my Canon t5i after doing weeks of research. I shoot mainly street photography. I purchased the Sony a7 II with the Zeiss Loxia 35mm lens. While there may not be a perfect camera, the a7 II is beyond satisfactory. The optics are great. I love the Lens Peaking and Focus Magnifier. The four user programmable buttons allow for near complete customization and a well placed Function (FN) button allows for optimal cont... Show More

Amazing body. Could use better battery life, low light focus

Jan 3, 2016

The a7ii is amazing, especially given its size. Haven't had it too long so I might update this review in a few months, but as of right now it seems perfect for travelling with. Picked up the Zeiss 55/1.8 to start and get a feel for it, and the image quality with that combo carries no complaints. The a7ii's EVF is also the best I've seen--especially the less useful function of viewing recent shots because its ridiculously high pixel density makes ... Show More

Mar 15, 2015

I just love my A7ii! I sold my Olympus OMD EM5 to get this. The hardest part was choosing a lens...I stayed away from the kit lens and got the 55mm f1.8 and I am in love with this combo. Nothing like a little foot zoom. I did have an issue where my EVF kept blinking a green light and I had to send the unit back for being defective; but BH photo was great handling the return. I also purchased the flash kit and extra battery with charger. The handl... Show More

Sony A7II w/Zeiss 50/2 ZM

Apr 18, 2015

I purchased this camera to replace my Fuji X-T1 because I wanted to go full frame and didn't want to go back to Nikon. Everything about this camera was unintuitive and annoying. The only thing IMO that the Sony A7II has going for it is IQ and that's not enough for me. The IQ is only marginally better than the crop sensor in the Fuji X-T1 while pixel peeping. Sent back after 2 days of use. Pros: Great IQ Amazing low light performance In body image... Show More

Love this camera!

May 19, 2015

Excellent build quality, useful features, bright sharp EVF, terrific articulating LCD, and just the right size camera for travel. Sony has improved significantly on the factors engineering with the A7-II compared to its previous A7 models, controls are well placed and offer sufficient flexibility. Having read several pixel peeper reviews I did not expect great images straight out of the camera but I've been pleasantly surprised with the results e... Show More

I've only had my Sony A7 II with the FE 28-70mm lens for a wk now and I just been getting to know it I've been a Nikon shooter up to now. I haven't found it too difficult making the transition,so far, however I've just been shooting around the house. I've been able to get show stopper shots of one of our dogs with no photoshopping. Nice camera

Apr 17, 2015

This camera is great for landscape shots and portraits. I am using with a Metabones adapter and Canon EF L lenses. AF works on some lenses and not so well on others, but Manual Focus is very easy with this camera, particularly if you turn on the peaking level which highlights areas in viewfinder that are in focus. I was very disappointed that a camera at this price point arrives without a battery charger. What is provided with the camera is an un... Show More

Good enough

Apr 18, 2016

Coming from a Canon 5DII, I'll say the A7II is good enough as a FF camera, fantastic as a walkabout camera and good overall. I did not need the crazy amount of pixels on the A7RII, drooled after the Low ISO capabilities of the A7SII, but could not justify the premium charged over the A7II for either, and I'm happy with my purchase after 4 months with it. Dynamic range is fantastic and I seldom if not never find myself in any situation requiring m... Show More

Nice Upgrade

This is a very nice upgrade from my A700. The sharpness, color and dynamic range of the image are really blowing me away. I do miss the ergonomics of the A700 but I feel programming the buttons may solve this problem when I get around to it. There is a bit of a learning curve. The kit lens surprised me with it's sharpness considering some of the reviews. The only thing I miss with it is the range I had using a Tamron 18-270 PFD with the older cam... Show More

How can you dislike a full frame 24MP sensor with stabilisation? You can't, there is nothing out there like it. The reasonable price and compactness make this product very unique. For perspective, I have had both the A7R and still have a A7S. There are very few lenses that can keep up with A7R, the FE55mm can and perhaps the newer FE35mm in the line up. The other lenses, in my case 16-35mm, 24-70mm and 70-200mm are more suited to 24MP. I LOVE the... Show More

I previously used the Sony a6300 in this capacity, which is a fine camera for the size and expense, but even the finest APS-C sensor can not match the resolution of this full-frame camera. It was returned saying, unrepairable: corrosion damage. Now it is an 1700 brick.
