Heard so much about this camera. I had the original fuji x100 (12 mp). Had to upgrade to bigger file size because I'm doing some wall prints. Instead of lugging around my 5D mk3 around, this camera fit the bill in: file size, image quality, quick handling and small form factor. Matter of fact, I'm so happy with this camera's performance, I'm thinking of using it as a 2nd camera for video shooting. The video features on this surpasses the 5D MK3, ... Show More

Expired, useless software for excellent camera

Nov 27, 2019

Would have given it 5 stars but my new camera cant currently do as advertised without my buying third party software. Sonys playmemories software is supposed to organize your photos and enable wireless downloads. The instructions told me to install it even though Sony knows it wont work with any updated computer, PC or Mac. I stressed considerably trying to follow the bogus in-box instructions to get my camera going. I finally researched the issu... Show More

Even better after more shooting time!

May 18, 2014

After living with this camera for a bit, I have a few more comments I had a minor gripe about functions buried in menus. I've discovered that Sony has attempted to addresss this issue by making items somewhat context aware--more often than not guiding me to the right controls. Also there is a high degree of customization with assignable controls, making the novice user experience pretty good for a semipro-level camera. In addition to the 16-50 ki... Show More

The camera I'd been waiting for

Oct 25, 2014

I've owned a dozen camera systems in my life. This camera is better than any I've ever owned. OK, maybe not better than the Contax G2 with Zeiss lenses but that was film. This little thing is a marvel. I find the menus much more intuitive to navigate than I thought they would be. The controls are conveniently placed. The size is great for travel, which is one of the main reasons I bought it. The electronic viewfinder is good, could be better, cou... Show More

Sweet....

Mar 30, 2016

I've used the camera for travel, art, portraiture and product photography. It is so compact and light weight for a camera with so many features. I wish I could use longer lenses for capturing panoramas that are automatically stitched with this camera. The auto-stitch feature is really quite good but wide angle lenses will still create some distortion. If I don't move at a consistent speed, too slow or too fast, it won't capture the pano. User-friendly + excellent image quality

May 15, 2014

I am an amateur photographer frustrated with the limitations of higher-end point and shoot cameras. I've been reluctant to upgrade to a DSLR because of the bulk and added complexity. The Sony a6000 camera does an admirable job of addressing both concerns while delivering terrific photos and video. I found myself inspired and encouraged to try new things beyond the automatic mode, with a big payoff in terms of expanding my abilities as a photograp... Show More

Great Compact Camera, Mediocre Software

Jan 12, 2015

I like to take my cameras out and bring them wherever I go. This is why I stuck to compact point and shoots, my phone, and my GoPro for so long. I wanted a more control and higher quality pictures than what those cameras could get me. I have experience with older film SLRs and a few Canon DSLRs that my friends would let me borrow from time to time, but with their size and weight along with heavy lenses would make it difficult to carry around all ... Excellent camera, if a little complicated.

May 3, 2017

I upgraded to this from higher end point-and-shoots, so I had a bit of a learning curve. But so far this camera is outstanding. The 16-50 lens has a decent zoom on it, the 55-210 has an excellent zoom but the tradeoff of course is that it starts at 55. Both are OSS, which is nice to have. I have since bought the 20mm prime as well. With the 16-50 or the 20, this camera can easily fit into a pocket of cargo pants/shorts or a jacket. The menu syste... Show More

There are many things about this camera that caused gut wrenching disappointment in me when I first started taking pictures with it. I am writing this review to let you know it is a GREAT CAMERA, once you get past the handicap. The handicap Sony software engineers have loaded it with picture fiddling software, that causes unfortunate outcomes like fine mud smear background effect, lack of precision in pictures and unreal colour. For our first adventure outside of point and shoot, this has been a stellar performer in most respects. Seeing several sites doing image quality comparisons, I agree that this provides quite a high level of IQ. We have noticed the softness of the AF system during the high speed continuous burst modes. Attempting to capture pileated woodpeckers in flight in dimmer forest environments with the kit 70-210mm maxed out at f5.6 left many unusable image... Show More

Good deal for a great camera

Dec 10, 2017

I previously owned a Sony NEX which doesn't have a view finder. I found it difficult to shoot using the LCD screen especially in very sunny condition. So I bought this A6000 because it has a viewfinder and and because it was on Black Friday sale. One thing I wasn't happy was that UPS just left the camera outside my door on day of delivery. Luckily nobody stole it. B&H should probably insist on shipping with signature confirmation. The camera itse... Show More

I was ready to step up from my 6yr old megazoom camera with it's much smaller sensor, but didn't want to spend pro-level $$. I was also interested in mirrorless because I didn't want to pack around pounds of gear, but wanted higher quality lens than a current megazoom. Several web reviews of the Sony A6000 were near glowing positive, but I stopped by a brick-n-mortar to spec it's actual size. B&H had a sale on certain E-mount lenses so I jumped o... Show More

My only two issues are that I often don't have either with me for a great photo opportunity because of size and focusing accuracy with my f1.8 primes are sometimes out.
