Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM Contemporary Lens for Nikon F

What a fine lens!
I have been shooting Pentax for 25 years using M, A, FA, DA, and DA L, lenses. I have Tokina and Sigma autofocus lenses as well. This new Sigma Contemporary lens is amazing in autofocus speed and quietness because of the HSM. All of my other lenses are manual or screw drive focus. This Sigma will spend more time on my new K-30 with the Pentax DA 18-250 going back on the K-10d. Quality of pics and macro are excellent. I also have a Sigma EX 105 macro. My only complaint is that it does not come with a case.

Just what I hoped for!
Has become my primary walk-around lens. Love the size and weight. And it has great focal length range for most of my pursuits. Recent twilight/night photo shoot produced very sharp images. Still exploring its capabilities.

Great mid-level lens
I fall in the prosumer category. Do a few paid gigs and a lot of personal shooting. I couldn't afford the Canon L lens and think this is the next best option. And it has image stabilization which give me three times the usable shots. Did a shoot yesterday for a client and had used a similar Tokina without IS and had a lot more freehand shots come out with the Sigma. Doing a wedding this weekend and I feel confident that this lens will take care o... Show More

Solid performer
Ok, I tested this lens on a 5Dmk3 not a crop body. Although the t2i was not up to the IQ of this lens, not the sensor or processing engine. With the the 5Dmk3 I could see the capabilities of this lens, despite not being a full frame lens. Just test run to check lens IQ. I found the contrast was up to 6400 ISO on par with the 5Dmk3 and will be a excellent walk around lens for my new 70D when it arrives. No full time manual focus, or overide, the f... Show More

Great overall lens
The lens has worked great but it seems to have trouble with the auto focus when the distances are extreme. I'm not sure if this is due to the lens, an attached filter or my learning to use the lens,

Excellent lens
My best zoom lens, and better than the earlier Sigma 17-70 by an order of magnitude. I have gotten results that exceed what I have seen capable on Nikon or Canon zooms of comparable price. Build quality and appearance are a cut above previous Sigma lines. Coupled with a Sigma Merrill camera body, this is capable of some excellent photographic results. Sigma seems to be aiming directly at the advanced amateur and professional market now.

In all honestly, did not live up to hype
I have had the Sigma 17-70mm OS version for quite some time.. i LOVE THE LENS.. great macro shots, nice contrast, sharp! great body construction.when the new C contemporary version came out.. with a new look. new specs.. I was very excited as the way I can see it.. sigma would merely just take the old versio and improve it..So here are a few of my key things-PROS--the body was very nice, new construction, felt solid, smaller and lighter.-the came... A nice fast and affordable all rounder.
This lens is relatively fast, the image stabiliser is great for stills or video, it's lightweight and very quick to focus. Build quality feels good. My only complaint is that the zoom ring feels quite heavy to turn, so it will be a bit clunky when I am zooming during a video shot. But if you're shooting stills then I'm sure the heavy zoom might be a good thing. Macro is amazing. Great value for money.

Great Lens
This is a great short/medium zoom for APS-C sensor cameras. Fast and sharp. IT is also small and light making it excellent for travel and walk-around. Pair it with a good 70-300 lens and you have a great combo.

Top value standard zoom
A very good lens for the price. The OS enables shooting in poor light. A lightweight but quality upgrade from Canon kit lens

Sweet lens - great for all around work
I shoot stock footage (b-roll) and fine art photography. All I can say is that this is an awesome lens. The macro is super with awesome bokeh. The rest of the focal lengths are of course super handy when one needs to run and gun. I shot a non-typical dust devil in the AZ desert from a moving vehicle doing about 80mph... zoomed out for a wide shot and man - super crisp! Of course I shoot in manual mode most of the time. I didn't even have any stabilization turned on.

Amazing!
This lens is absolutely wonderful, i love it. The build quality is really good. Zooming is really smooth. Focusing speed is quite fast considering i have a d3100. I can't really think of a flaw for this lens. It's perfect for it's price range and it's fairly light.

Effective, but not without shortcomings.
General purpose lens for crop sensor walk about. Offering a good range (albeit less than the Nikon 16-85) with excellent sharpness, resolution and color in the center of the image at all FL's. However, on the wider end of things, you cannot get rid of slightly softer sides, even at F9-F11 (the sweet spot for the 17 - 20mm focal lengths). Better sharpness in the center and intermediate areas that even the 17-55 Nikon. The macro is good too, offeri... Show More

1ST Sigma Lens
Being a Nikon person with only Nikon products this was my 1st venture into the Sigma product line. I have only had the lens about 2 weeks but I am extremely happy with the results so far. I am using a Nikon D7000.

Great Substitute for a Kit Lens
I bought this lens for use on a Nikon 5200 purchased for my granddaughter. I much prefer it to the standard 5200 kit lens. Build quality is much greater, zoom range is larger, the aperture is bigger and it has image stabilization. I'm quite pleased with the image quality of this lens and would recommend it to the beginning DSLR photographer.

The perfect lens for my needs
Thins lens is the perfect walk around lens for my needs. It is light, it has a large aperture, it focuses very close, it has a very versatile zoom range, and it is sharp. I used to shoot the professional level Nikon 17-55 and I prefer this lens.

Great Lens
I use this lens for photographing fast paced barrel racers. Most of the time it is in low light indoor arenas. As soon as I started using this lens it greatly improved my images. I am able to shoot with a wider apeture and faster shutter speed to stop down the action. As soon as I put this lens on my T2i I could feel the difference in it and my old lens immediately. The lens is smooth to the touch. I love that. I did at first think that it was not focusing because it is so quiet that I could not hear it. So far I have found nothing that is not great about it.

Way Better Than Expected
This is the perfect primary travel lens for people who like shooting anything from insects, to flowers, to people, to art, to architecture. It is not perfect, but with a bit of perimeter cropping, I love the results. Pictures are clear and sharp in the center and the speed allows food shooting without a flash. I highly recommend this lens for anyone who travels...

So many things to like
There are so many things to like about this lens. I've been looking for a new walk around lens for a while and I did not have a huge budget. This lens fits the bill. Whenever, I use it, I keep saying to myself, I really like this lens! The lens is well made, does not feel cheap and is fairly light weight. Bokeh is amazing as well and depending on the situation, you can get some nice effects even at F5.6 which I was surprised at. I think my only s... Show More

Great alternative to kit lens
I am no photographer, I just like taking pictures. I am actually a little sad about the added weight compared to my old kit lens, but uhm the photos speak for them selves really. For my simple needs it has been great so far. Everyone looks pretty with it and it s good in low light - check!

Awesome Lens
I have been using Sigma lenses for quite some time now and just love them. This one just adds to that feeling. The lens is quick to focus, great performance even in low light and images are just beautiful. It feels very comfortable to handle and use. Another great addition to the Sigma family.

Good Good Good
Good lens but it does feel a bit plastic-y Amazing macro capabilities: I can get SUPER close and get sharp images/video (I mostly use video) I haven't viewed the difference in the OS on and off while shooting video though. the fitment at first didn't seem right but it got better. I just wish there was one for full frame.. I have a fixed 50 and 85 and this is a good in-between zoom lens.
