Great Sound

Jan 19, 2017

Not a audio professional but the sound comes out of this capsule is great. Lower frequency sounds a bit light compared to other Sennheiser Mics but the noise is very low and I love how short it is.

I would recommend the ME-64 for mounting on-camera setup.

Dec 15, 2016

Tested the ME-64 and works great. Can't wait to setup thru the SD Pre-Mix D into my Canon 5D Mkiii and recording also into my Tascam DR-100 Mkii. Will be testing later this week. But overall I like the idea of a shorter mic. Also using the ME-66 which is a great mic.

Impressive off axis rejection from such a short shotgun

Having used an ME-66 for the past eight years, I was impressed with the off axis rejection of this diminutive sibling.

Outstanding microphone! Cannot beat the quality.

Jul 4, 2016

I use the product as the main mic for my Canon 80D. On my first project, the Sennheiser ME 64 exceeded my expectations. The ME 64 was able to pick up the voice clearly of a fighter jet pilot next to a runway with high winds & jet engine sounds. I've owned & used a Sennnheiser ME 66 since 1994. The ME 64 is a perfect match for the ME 66. There are many microphones that will save you money but the Sennheiser ME 64 is the best for just a little more money.

Great interior dialog

Jul 1, 2016

I've been using the ME66/K6 combo for a few years for when I'm doing indie film stuff and small corporate one-man-band action, and it's been great. However I kept reading that a shorter cardioid or hyper-cardioid mic is much better in small room recording situations. I hemmed and hawed over what to get, and since I already had the K6 with my normal shotgun mic I decided to stick in the Sennheiser brand and try this ME64. I'm no expert, but the di... Show More

Great little mic

Mar 12, 2015

I use this on my FS7 as a scratch mic. The shorter length is perfect for on-camera, and the sound is surprisingly nice, definitely useable for ambient noise and outdoor shooting. It's definitely my mic of choice for on-camera.

Cardioid Love

Mar 2, 2015

I use this capsule on a camera mount for field audio for video. Or on a stand for interviews. The great thing about a cardioid pattern that is often overlooked is the rear rejection. Point the back of this mic toward the background noise you DON'T want. This capsule does a nice job of attenuating sound sources to the rear of the mic. Also, the cardioid pattern is generous, so if a source of sound is not exactly on mic, or moves slightly in front of mic.....s'okay, still can be very close resounding and clear.

Versatile, High Performance Microphone

Mar 27, 2014

I use the ME-64 for on camera audio with a Canon XA25. Excellent for small groups, interviews and interior location work, including documentary style shooting. Off axis rejection is good, and greatly reduces camera handling noise, but still provides enough situational feel for natural reproduction. I often use it in conjunction with the ME-66 (usually boomed off-camera) and the mix and tonal qualities are an excellent match. The K6 power modules ... Show More

Great Sound Quality

Mar 7, 2011

Buying a microphone online can be scary. if you have never worked with the model you purchase, you won't know what to expect, until after it's in your studio or on set. Fortunately, in this case, the Sennheiser ME64 was a good choice. I already own and have used its big brother, the ME66 shotgun mike for independent film, commercial, and corporate work. But, the ME66 was meant to be used in more outdoor situations, because of its side noise-cance... Show More

I have used this mic for shooting interviews and audition scenes for actors. The sound is very clean with little need for cleanup in post.

Great For Dialogue

Feb 16, 2010

Shooting indoors, the mic capsule has a great pickup pattern for dialogue. When actors move their head to either side, the mic does a great job of picking up the sound as if it was pointed straight at them. Very little to no off-axis problems. Also, the pattern only picks up what's in front, and nothing from behind.

Outstanding sound quality and value

Dec 20, 2009

I purchased this capsule for a recent production job. I already had a K6/ME66 system which I've used for years as an on-camera run and gun mic or as a backup for shoots that are locked down. I'd been reading that for indoor use, a shotgun was actually not a good choice and since this job involved exclusively indoor interviews, I decided it was time to try the ME64. None of my rental houses have this capsule. Since the price was relatively low and... Show More

Soundbites On a Deadline

Oct 8, 2008

Sennheiser ME 64 / K6 Just in the way of background, this mic was purchased for ENG & documentary use. I was impressed with its earlier version (ME 40) years ago, especially when compared to the more common omnidirectional mics most of us use in newsgathering. Using this mic requires just a bit more thought and care in handling than the common dynamic hammers of ENG. But the payoff is a much higher clarity of what the speaker is saying, with far ...
