Super Sharp and Fast AF

Oct 31, 2019

Ok, I will be honest, its expensive for what is in essence a sort of novelty lens but... you really do get what you pay for. The optics are excellent, its super sharp edge to edge. The AF is very fast on my Lumix G85 and G9. Its so compact and light youll have no problems tossing into your spare pocket to use if that just in case moment arrives. Back in my days of film I used those cheap Spirotone Fisheyes which were ok but just that, ok. This le... Show More

Everything it should be!

Sep 17, 2014

It came between this lens for my beloved GH3 and the Century Extreme fisheye for my HPX170. Besides the obvious $2000 price difference, this lens is a no brainer if you're looking into a m4/3 fisheye. There is zero vingetteing on this which was a huge plus for me. That's the one downfall of the Century Extreme, other than the hefty price. This lens looks just as good if not better without the dreaded outer rings.. Many of us are coming from a skat... Super Light BUT subject to flare

May 23, 2017

I use a fisheye often, both for interesting image composition in crowds, and most often for spherical panorama image acquisition in a PTGUI workflow. For the sphericals the sun is often a composition component. But this lens is subject to FLARE if the sun is anywhere in the image. Also, the lens is fly by wire; you can adjust focus with a focus ring, but it is not marked. Aperture has to be done with a camera setting; there is no aperture ring. T... Show More

Great for underwater photography

Mar 20, 2015

Add this fisheye to a 10cm dome port and that's it! The image quality is amazing and you don't get that tunnel vision effect you have when using SLRs with fish eyes and minidome ports due do the image distortion associated with the dome. Whith this lens and the 10cm dome you get one of the best superwide-angle you can dream of for underwater photography. The minimum focus distance is about 0cm from the dome, so you can get as close as you can. Th... Show More

Wide Enough Indeed

May 10, 2015

Although I am still not big on the bulbous look of fish-eyed photographs, I bought this lens for very-wide outdoor work. I had played with the defishing feature of DxO Viewpoint and was not sure that I could get a rectilinear shot I liked, but after having used the lens for a couple of weeks, I have learned that urban environments with straight lines are the ones that look bulbous. Straight lines occur differently in nature. If you get the horizo... Show More

Great little lens!

Dec 14, 2013

I first bought the Samyang 7.5mm f3.5 fisheye. But since I do a lot of close-up with my kids, I needed AF since they move a lot. On my Olympus E-M1, the focus is fast in good light, and a little bit slower when the lightning is dimmer. The lens is very sharp in the center wide opened. And at f5.6 and above, it is sharp corner to corner. It can flare a lot but less than with the Samyang, not by much thought. Tha built quality is better than the Sa... Show More

Stunning Images!

Dec 23, 2014

I use this lens for just about any subject. In extreme close up photos (flowers) I try to use the distortion to enhance the subject while shooting landscapes I can make the distortion almost invisible in some ways. The distortion won't be gone but like a magician use misdirection to draw the viewers eye away from the distortion. This lens images can also be de-fished with software to eliminate the distortion be keep the ultra wide perspective. The autofocus allows me to change my field of view and keep my subject tack sharp. This is a lens for a visual adventure!

Fantastic Fisheye !

Feb 13, 2012

I'm using this lens on an E-P3, and the results I have obtained are nothing short of amazing. Chromatic aberrations are extremely well controlled, even when shooting subjects against the sun, and the distortion isn't extreme - just right for a fisheye for my taste. The lens is extremely sharp and very compact, macro capability is amazing for a fisheye. If you're a fisheye enthusiast and are on the micro 4/3 platform, I definitely would not hesitate to buy this lens. A similar quality dslr lens costs twice to three times more...

pocket Fisheye

Feb 17, 2011

Fisheyes are usually soft wide open. This lens is no different but seems to be contrasty and reasonably sharp at 4, 5.6 and beyond. The characteristic distortion of a fisheye is something you work with but I find this lens to have just a tad less than usual --a good thing. Its compact and well built and... expensive. It is the only game in town for micro 4/3. The lens cap is clever and well made and I shutter at the prospect of loosing it and having to replace it. Its fun to have a 180 degree camera in such a small package.

Fun lens

Jan 6, 2013

I'm amateur photographer and this is my 2nd lens for Lumix GX1. As expected with a fisheye lens, taking photo is fun and exciting. You see the world in different perspective and the image captured are clear and I use it mostly to take landscape picturs for now, no more need to stitch up panoramas this camera capture it all in one shot. But the lens is very big so dirt get on the lense easily and it is very difficult to clean. My dog licked the lense and I am unable to clean the lens ever since.

Fun but expensive and very specialized

Jan 7, 2011

This lens is a diagonal fisheye lens and is very sharp. I had an old circular fisheye lens years ago and this lens is much more useful. It still produces a lot of distortion toward the edges and of objects near the camera. A bubble level on the hotshoe is useful. A great lens for interior full room shots. Note their is no optical stableization built into this lens, but at 8mm this is not usually a problem. It is lightweight but may be somewhat delicate and has a lot of exposed glass.

Valuable Bag of Tricks Lense

Sep 19, 2011

I bought this lense as my third for my M4/3 ELP-1. Excellent on photowalks to break up the look of a collection with some cool wide angle shots. Used it too much at first but have now worked out that it is best with large foreground subjects. I also use it on a monopod held over subjects for a different angle or a really interesting group shot. Pretty rugged as I dropped it on concrete from about two feet and no issues. Pricey but unique. No regrets.

Fun lens!

May 7, 2012

Great fisheye for micro four thirds cameras. Small and lightweight and fun to use but not meant for flattering portraits as it can make your subjects to look like they belong in a carnival. My wife has banned me from taking pictures of her with it but I use it on as many other people as I can. You can get very interesting perspectives in really tight places and can keep almost everything in focus.

Great lens!

Apr 1, 2012

This is a fantastic lens! I'm a long time Canon shooter, and used most of wide-angles in Canon lineup over the years. None of them had a wow factor in sharpness this little guy has. Chromatic abberations are non-existant, and flare is well-controlled. Couple this with a tiny size, and this lens is a winner! A lot more spherical panoramas are in my future...

Small, lightweight, great

Jan 1, 2015

It is a very nice fisheye lens. It is very light and very small, but the image quality is great. I use this lens mostly indoors with enough light, but it is also quite impressive even at lower light levels. This being a fisheye, and with f3.5 (equivalent of f7 on full frame), most of the things are pretty much in focus.

Outrageous field of view (and dreams)

Mar 18, 2014

Smallest decent fisheye lens found anywhere. Yes, there is moderate barrel distortion but that is the effect of any 8mm and for me a very special effect that will go along way in telling the story and landscape scope of a 300 mile trek on the Camino de Santiago path next week in Spain!

Worth the splurge!

May 19, 2013

I've been contemplating this lens for about a year. It was hard to justify it because I already own the 7-14mm Lumix lens. I finally took the plunge and am very pleased with the fisheye. The bubbled effect is A-W-E-S-O-M-E. I would totally recommend this lens to others.

This lens outside is so much fun.

Jun 29, 2014

I took pictures of my granddaughter at the playground and the fisheye lens really made the shots look really cool. When she was in the swing and the shots taken while she was in the air with the fisheye lens make for a unique and great looking shot. This is just fun.

This lens is an excellent combination of size and quality for any m4/3 camera. I've shot dozens of pics with it and the sharpness, contrast, and color are first-class. If you want a fisheye lens for your m4/3 camera this is a no brainer.
