Good value headphones with minor flaws

Nov 14, 2013

I needed a pair of headphones for portable use that would be good enough for quick mastering jobs, yet not be so expensive that I'd be afraid to leave home with them. The Shure range had gotten good reviews so I thought the SRH240 was worth a try. In the studio I use an expensive closed-back headphone for detail work so I was hoping the SRH240 wouldn't be too much of a disappointment in comparison. In actual fact I've been pleasantly surprised... Show More

Shure SRH240 Headphones

May 25, 2015

Firstly, here's what I wanted from this product. Good overall sound - yes! Given that this product is reasonably cheap, the sound quality was not that different to the Dr Beats, I just compared them with. Maybe the Shure's lack a little in the bass end but then again, they're not in the same price range. There are a couple of reasons why I'm not going to give these a 'five' and one of them is comfort. I had these headphones on for about... Show More

Good headphones but not worth the price!

Feb 27, 2015

I bought these headphones as my first pair of monitor headphones for using in my home studio, seeing as these are shure and within my price range I took the gamble and got them. I'll keep this short for basic studio work they will do the job, the sound is clear and has detailed highs and mids however they lack in bass, very much so in fact. The bass response on these is not good at all and can be awkward for mixing with however having said that t... Show More

Can't fault them for use with a Line6 Pod

Aug 11, 2014

These are very comfortable and sound great when used with both a Line6 Pod (Their primary use for me) and during a test with an iPod. The adapter for the larger size jack plug is the screw on type, which is a very good thing. I've just other headphones that used a push on adapter and any time you unplug them the adapter gets left in the socket which most frustrating. The shure system is a really good design. Very comfortable for prolong... Show More

Excellent quality and great value

Mar 10, 2017

The Shure SRH240's are a great set of headphones for a very acceptable price. It has a great frequency response range and are amazingly comfortable to wear. They bring me right into the sound and are great for isolating other external sound sources. They're very comfortable and the build quality is great as to be expected from the Shure brand. I would say that they compete with headphones that are four times the price very easily. They ... Show More

Sound: The headphones have a very linear sound and so you have a pretty good nuanced workflow. the heights are very velvet and fine but really true and faithfully but present. ... Show More

Not the quality expected from Shure

Dec 3, 2014

Firstly, these are good headphones. Comfortable, well made, & with good sound. However, on comparison with bog standard cheap studio headphones from Behringer which we give musicians laying down backing tracks, there is little difference in sound, mainly with a disappointing bass response. We will be looking at similarly priced other products in future & not these as we are not disatisfied, but a little disappointed. Obviously you can't go far wrong with Shure, they are well made, professional & offer good value for money. Recommended with reservations.

Basic studio headphones

I use them at home for recording myself and listening to reviews and music. The sound is very clear with good bass although I am no expert on headphones I have tinitus but can hear everything clearly. The build feels like cheap plastic but they have not shown any signs of breaking. The cable is long and of good quality and includes a screw on adapter for 3.5mm to 1/4 inch sockets. They sound great much better than I expected some reasonably priced headphones to be.

More than i expect

Nov 5, 2014

This is a cheaper more light weight build version than the 440. But the sound is more equal than i expect. I have both - and did a listen between this nice Shure. And tho this 240 is build more light and not so steady, it is a good choice for the money. For personal use - this is perfect... For all person use (studio-radio), maybe choose 440... Both 240 and 440 deliver such a clean and NON colored sound, that AKG better watch out.

Brilliant headphones. Great for noise cancelling and a really good clear sound through them with high/mid/bass portrayed very well. Very sturdy and adjustable on your head, although become a bit agitating if on for too long - but what headphones done! I'm using these currently in the studio as I just love the feel and sound of them.

Functional, but not very sturdy

Aug 22, 2019

I bought 2 pairs several years ago. They work okay, and are comfortable but that's about it. I've had several singers dislike singing into them (probably due to a fairly scooped frequency response) and neither survived very long when I repurposed them for gigging. But they're cheap, so there's that.

These are great headphones for studio or just for music lovers. They have great sound, better than some other more expensive headphones. Maybe you'll get tired if you wear them for a lot of hours.
