Great speaker with smart benefits.

Nov 3, 2018

I started looking into smart speakers, since I’m planning to by a Nest Hello doorbell and Hive Thermostat in the future and I was hoping to find something which also had decent sound since I also wanted the device to predominantly stream my music on. Now I’m no acoustics conisuer, but I’m pleasantly surprised by the quality of sound this little speaker puts out. Playing AC/DC Thunderstruck on one of these sounds awesome and you can really hear the base line and boom of the drums! Great product.

Good overall but.....

Dec 29, 2019

don’t do what I did and try to set it up where you want it. My tip is to set the speaker up as close as possible to your router then unplug and move it to its preferred location. This would have saved me a lot of time because, for some reason the app detected a different speaker that would not connect to the wifi. In the end I had to factory reset by holding the mic button for 10 seconds, after that everything was fine. If it could understand Welsh names’ pronunciation I would have given it 5*s!

Google home is no gimmick, but genuinely useful!

Jun 13, 2017

We brought this after seeing friends with the Amazon version, and thought it would be a bit of fun for us and the kids. We choose Google Home because as a household, we're all using Android devices with Google accounts. Turns out it's more than just a gimmicky Bluetooth speaker, it's made a number of tasks so much easier. No more scrolling through the radio stations to find music we like, we just say 'Hey Google', 'Play some summer tunes', and Google dutifully complies! Next up, auto lights!

Brilliant

I love my Google home. So does the kids. Plays my music on Spotify (got 3 months for £1 included. Not the 12 months free I was told in store). Recently also connected it with a chromecast however don't use that to much and still figuring it out. The design of the home is really modern. I like to get news and weather updates in the morning. Perfect when I don't want to to this on my phone as leaves my hands free to make breakfast etc. Overall absolutely love it and hope it can do more in future.

Nice design, good sound quality

May 1, 2019

Easy to set up. Had a little difficulty connecting to Netflix, but think that may have been an issue with Netflix. Mainly use it for Spotify - you can ask it to play any music, genre, artist, podcast etc., you can also ask to play radio, or set alarms. Looks a little like a futuristic air freshener, but most things do these days. Would like to have been able to connect it to external speakers , but the speaker on the device is good. UK version has slightly fewer features than US for some reason.

I love google home

Sep 27, 2017

The google home impressed so much, we had to by another one for the kitchen! She (google home) is a lot more responsive, understanding and helpful than the other main competitor. She even turns off our lights for us! I was shocked at how loud and clear the speaker was, with a massive range of music on google to play with it! The only complaint is that you have to take a little time to figure out the key words you need to use to get what you want for some commands - but that's to be expected!

We love it!

Set up was easy for first user, adding second user took a little longer, but once set up it recognises us both very well. Its very good at answering general questions, but we mainly use it for music. We'd uploaded our CDs to Google Play Music so it was available to the Google Home. Can either cast music to it or use it as Bluetooth speaker. Only downside is without a Google Play subscription it will only play a selection of tracks from an album, but if you create playlists it will play those.

Compared to Amazon Echo

May 9, 2017

I own both the google and the Amazon Echo, I will admit that I was looking forward to the Google Home and expected it to replace the Amazon units. I cant write a full review here so very summarised Physical : as it has a face, the face must be looking at you so you know it responded. The Amazon is 360. Responsiveness: poor compared to the Amazon by a big margin. 3rd party device support: maybe early days, but not as extensive as the Amazon. review exceeded Character limit !!!

Google Home is still learning

Jun 14, 2017

I purchased this item because I wanted to take away the need for a written diary and I was pleasantly surprised at how much google home can do but I am rather disappointed that 'she' doesn't understand my Scottish accent. I have to Americanise it which can get frustrating. I also find it frustrating when you have asked google home to do something or have asked 'her' a question then once she's done it, she immediately switches off so you have to repeat 'hey google' to get her attention again.

Hey Google turn on the lights

May 24, 2017

The Google Home is a very nice. . If you're heavily invested in the Google ecosystem then it's a no brainer It takes less than 5 minutes to set up, the voice recognition is fantastic, it's ignored/misheard me 3/4 times since I've had it. It answers everything, expect the formula 1. It is linked to my Spotify and hue and works flawlessly. The magic of saying "hey Google, turn the lights on" will never wear off. Cons are that the speakers are a bit bassy for my liking and formula 1 information

Clever, fun gadget

Apr 26, 2017

Had this for a few days now so still discovering what it can do. So far it has played a few radio channels through a pretty good speaker and reported on my travel time to work. I have used it to set reminders for cooking and to find out the name of an actor in a film. The voice recognition is pretty much flawless and intuitive. The novelty of saying OK Google hasn't worn off yet and I don't see this becoming a problem. Overall it's a gadget that can be useful and seems to be pretty intelligent.

Not an air freshener

Apr 20, 2017

The Google Home (GH), is a great bit of kit. Out of the box and set up in mins. Responded well to most of my commands even through the accent. Out of the Box she can stream music and keep you up to date on your schedule. She is also a fountain of knowledge. Add even just the Chromecast and you can send YouTube and Netflix videos to a screen, and photos. Bring in the Hue lights and other stuff and it is almost like being in star trek. Compared to my father's Echo Dot. This one suits me better.

Great sound... but has its drawbacks

Apr 27, 2017

I was really looking forward to this Google Home. A little surprised that the enclosed instructions where so sparse, but it was no problem setting it up. The sound is crisp and clear, with what must be a decent built in speaker, the microphone had no problems picking up my voice, even in another room. Only real drawback was that it has trouble with most commands i tried. I am sure in time it will be expanded. It's good for local news/weather and music (music with a subscription stream service).

Worth buying and more feature to come

Jun 1, 2017

Having considered both the Amazon Echo and the Goggle Home, being an Android and Goggle Dan this was the best buy. All the family love using the Goglle Home. Takes some getting use to saying the correct phrases. More features to be released later this year, such as each family member being recognised by their own accounts such as Goggle, Spotify, etc. A great product, a good price and time.to learn how to get the most out out before the next load of features arrive to benefit and entertain us.

Easy Peasy

Feb 14, 2019

This is a rarity, something simple that actually works! Response times is about 1 second. It's so easy to set up it's ridiculous. Sound quality is surprisingly good for its size and cost. The feature I like most is linking it to my Spotify account. So simple, It's so easy to listen to what ever you want, Google home will find it in a second or two. If you set up music play lists you say " Ok Google" play "Romantic play list" and it plays it... simple as that. I'm going to buy another.

Better than Amazon's Echo

Apr 20, 2017

The Google Home is an excellent hands free speaker. It's a bit biased towards bass but for its size it sounds more than decent. It fits in with decor really well. It has a few issues sometimes with responding to commands and I have found it works almost every time if you are standing still and looking at it whilst speaking. Otherwise it can be a bit hit and miss. Smart home control is adequate, could do with a few more features but there's IFTTT for that. Overall, a brilliant product!

It needs time to get better and more versatile,

Apr 28, 2017

It is a fairly new gadget and still being improved, as for now you can ask it things like traffic, weather, and your calendar e.t.c. If you have a smart hub at home it can also operate lights heating, security cameras, you can ask It to cast a film to your tv or stream some music from google, Spotify or other sources. Sound quality is decent for a small speaker but it lacks crispness. Microphone is very sensitive and will catch even quiet commands.A very nice gadget, you easily get used to it.

A fun first step in making my home 'smart'.

Jan 11, 2018

I took a long time deciding between Google Home and Alexa. Despite the headstart that Alexa has had, both products offer plenty of support for those looking to make their home 'smart'. What pushed me toward Google Home in the end was the fact that when push comes to shove, everyone uses Google on a daily basis! I have faith that Google will catch up, and eventually overtake Alexa in what it can do. For the time being, it's a fun piece of kit to have in the house, and great with a Chromecast.

Really easy to use

May 4, 2017

Really like my google home. It's smaller than I expected which is good. Looks stylish and has nice coloured lights on top when in use. I was a little disappointed it doesn't talk to my iPhone. You can download a google calendar which syncs with your phone calendar, however you have to manually input entries into the google one in order for your google home to recognise it. Sound quality is really good and Im really impressed. it's great just being able to tell it to turn the radio on etc!

Great if you have a use for it

Sep 13, 2017

Google home is great if you have a use for it. I already have a bit of a smart home set up and this is great to tie it all together. It's Surprisingly small, does not take up much room at all, doesn't feel cheap and looks pleasant. Sound quality is amazing for the size, I now use it as my main music player, great bass along with pleasant highs and mids. Only reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars is because it doesn't do everything I want as an assistant, but I know this is being worked on.

Not worth the money

Feb 17, 2019

This is probably the most useless piece of technology I have ever owned!! I paid a heck of a lot of money for a glorified alarm/reminder. The app you need for this is hard to set up, no instructions with it, so you're navigating all sorts of places to set it up. When you do finally work things out and set your settings, they're ignored. Want it to play music, gotta pay/subscribe! If you live on your own and want a machine to tell you jokes, then this is for you. Seriously, don't bother!

Could be better

Jun 1, 2017

I wonder whether this should have been developed a bit more before coming onto the market. I dint know the answer to that but I'm learning! Yu can find out more on the net. It won't play music unless you have Google play music or Spotify to link it to. You can ask it to tune into some radio stations but not all. The sound quality is good. So if you're happy with that then buy it. It is very good at letting you know the news and the weather when you ask.it has its uses. Just wish it knew more!

Good all-rounder

Jan 4, 2018

The Google Home device works well in it's simplicity. Very easy to set-up through the downloadable app The functionality is good and generally listens and responds to questions accurately. I think that this kind of technology is a little gimmicky, however there are some useful features. Hopefully overtime, more features will be added to make this technology more useful for everyday tasks Overall, happy with the product. Saying "OK Google" to initiate the Google Home does get repetitive

Mostly love it, but...

Jan 3, 2018

It doesn't support Deezer which is a biggie for us. The rest of it is good, and there's some very cool things you can do (search for Google home easter eggs), but it won't be 5 stars for me until Deezer is supported like it was touted to be by the end of last year. Sound quality is pretty good, and it's already handy just for things like telling it to set an alarm for certain times. Saying 'OK google' is horrible and needs changing. Swapping 'Google' for any rhyming words amuses us :)
