The Best Choice for Novice or Almost-Pro

Jan 19, 2015

This is one of the best options on the market if you want to capture high-quality images, and I say this after using it as well as doing the research beforehand. In terms of comparison, I chose this over the CanoScan 9000F because it has comparable resolution capabilities AND the V600 can lift the lid 90 degrees and detach from the bed (cable stays connected). This ability to scan the faces of large objects is an important feature for the amateur... Show More

Just what I needed

Jul 21, 2014

The Epson V600 is just perfect foe my needs. My old flatbed scanner died a while back and I needed something to scan a lot of prints that were missing negs. The set up was quick & easy. The software automatically checked for the latest drivers, but I went to the Epson site and went to the V600 page & it recommended a Microsoft download for the scanner which I downloaded. The software is very intuitive...you almost don't need a manual. Some review... Show More

Wonderful Scanner & Very Affordable!

Dec 30, 2013

I bought this scanner as a gift for myself and what a gift it is! About a year ago, I started shooting medium format film and I knew that I would have to upgrade my scanner. After a positive experience with my earlier Epson scanner, I chose this one. It scans 35mm negatives and slides and 120/220 film; it is also a great flatbed scanner. The software is set up so that those who want to play with settings can do so while those that simply want an ... Show More

So So For Digitizing Film

May 30, 2013

I found this scanner to be so so for digitizing medium format film. It was reasonable for scanning prints. I purchased this scanner after reading many reviews about flatbed scanners that would digitize film. For the price this is a pretty good deal but I found the results lacking. Cons: It is extremely slow. It took upwards of 5-15 minutes to scan a single frame of 120 film (depending on the settings). If dust removal or Digital Ice is selected t... Show More

Great invention

Dec 17, 2010

I am using the Epson V600 scanner to turn my old photographs, color slides, and color negatives into digital photos that I can store on my computer and external hard drives and show on my TV. The scanner was easy to assemble and connect to the computer, and the software took just a few minutes to install. The scanner did a superb job in restoring color to old wedding photographs and slides. It was easy to insert the slides into the frame and scan... Show More

A mixed experience

Jul 27, 2017

My initial scanning efforts include both paper prints and transparencies. I controlled the scanner using either the included software. First, I scanned several rolls of paper prints in the range of 3x5 and 4x6, both monochrome and color. I had no trouble obtaining top-quality scans. All of my scans were made with the Professional setting, and all the controls I needed to use were easy to understand and well-organized. I did not need to use the mo... Show More

Scanning Negatives and Slides on V600

Apr 23, 2012

I am a previous owner of a Epson Perfection 4180 scanner, one that worked great for many years until recently (track drive broke). The Perfection V600 is my new replacement, seriously looked at the V700 but could not justify the price delta for my needs. Pros: *Great end product with slides/negative, *Does a decent job of standard options for starting up and scanning out of the box. *Multiple slides and negatives can be batched at same time. Cons... Fantastic Scanner

Jan 2, 2013

I bought this scanner specifically for slides and photos. Some of the photos are b&w and are almost a century old. The Epson Perfection V600 is extremely fast when copying photos ( e.g. 4x6 in less than a minute.) I am running an I-7 3930k Intel processor with 32gb ram.I use a new sweat sock to gently dust off the photo before I scan it. This saves a lot of problems and time when touching up the finished product. When scanning photos, I use full ... Show More

First of all, the scanner works great. No detailed instructions come with it which seems to be the norm nowadays. However I found an excellent YouTube video uploaded by Cook Library which does an exceptional job of demonstrating the V600. My problem its this: Im scanning 30 year old 35mm print transparencies that have been in mylar sleeves since I got them back from the developer. I carefully wipe each one with a microfiber lens cloth before plac... Show More

Excellent Photo Scanner

Jan 12, 2017

This is an excellent photo scanner. I made an initial test by scanning an old photograph of my mother in law for restoration. It is a 5 x 7 glossy picture. When imported from Affinity Photo (a great application putting a good fight again the mortgage company called Adobe), I blew it to see the detail and found that I could examine the photo paper emulsion as it aged for more that 50 years. I found many cracks on the silver bromide emulsion. Remar... Show More

Pretty Good For Home Use

Mar 21, 2014

I bought this scanner to scan family photo albums and am fairly pleased with it.Right up front I would like to say that I have not been able to achieve the same quality of digital files with this (or any) scanner that I have been able to achieve if I had used a DSLR camera to start with while capturing original images. And this is the biggest letdown that I have with this or any, scanner. If I am asking too much of scanned prints, then this scann... Show More

Worth Every Penny

Feb 12, 2015

For the person that wants to digitize their pictures and slides this is a fine scanner. I found the software intuitive and quickly established a work flow to scan prints quickly. Then again this is not my first rodeo with Digital Ice. For the new comer experimentation is in order to determine what can or cannot be done, there is a learning curve. I would love to buy a Nikon Coolscan to scan my thousand or so slides but I cannot afford that price.... Show More

Good resolution and speed, works with iMac using El Capitan

Mar 16, 2016

When I upgraded from an old Windows desktop to the iMac, my HP 9050 scanner refused to operate with the new OS. HP said they no longer supported the 9050, so I went looking for a scanner that would handle my 35 mm slides, had good resolution, and would work with the newer iMac OS. The Epson website reassured me that they had drivers for El Capitan. I chose to purchase from B &H because their price was very fair, they ship immediately, and my purc... Show More

Decent film scanner. Easy, good value.

Jan 14, 2014

So you have an archive of 15,000 negatives... This is a very good machine to get started. You'll be scanning negatives and positives within 15 minutes of opening the box. Default settings give you a reasonable image fairly quickly (5 or so minutes to scan two strips of negatives or 4 positives). To scan, you first put the film in one of two trays. The negative tray can hold two strips of up to six images per. The positive tray holds 4 mounted sli... Show More

A Gem of a Scanner.

Being a freelance illustrator and fine artist, I've found this product to be an essential peripheral tool. As I work both traditionally and electronically, the increasing need for a reliable scanner has overshadowed my financial concerns of late. What a wonderful surprise to discover that the Epson Perfection V600 delivers a quality scan surpassing the Agfa's and Microteck's of the 90's desktop publishing revolution at a very affordable price. Great Photo Print Scanner

Nov 7, 2013

This scanner is very good at digitizing prints. I scanned several hundred of my father's old WWII photos he had taken while in the service in Europe during the 1940's. The scanner very accurately reproduced the photos. The Digital Ice technology is included for prints as well as film/negative scanning on this model. The V550 has only film and negative. If you have old prints you probably should get this model or purchase a copy of Silverfast soft... Show More

It's a photo scanner. I've used it a few weeks now and find that it does a pretty good job at what it does, once you figure out how to make it do what you want it to do. Still getting used to the new (to me) Epson software. I prefer using the "Professional Mode" when scanning photos or film. It allows for more than enough control over the process than the other modes. My old scanner could scan 12 slides in one series, but they all had to be done ... Show More

Big Bang For Small Bucks

I just retired an 8-year-old Mac Mini computer system my wife has been using at home as well as all the dated components attached to it. I surprised her with a new MacBook Pro laptop, Henge Docking system, Epson V600 Photo Scanner, DYMO 450 Labelwriter and two Audioengine A2+ speakers. I chose the Epson V600 to replace our 10-year-old Epson Perfection V700 scanner for two primary reasons: 1) The V700 was obsolete and incompatible with the new Mac... Show More

Excellent for transparencies and prints

Jun 5, 2012

This scanner is an excellent alternative to the V700 at almost a third the cost. It actually has too much resolution when you take into consideration film grain, but I always like to start out with more and sample down if needed. Even at 24 bit I can get better black detail than with the prints from the same film. It handles 35mm slide film fairly well but the media holder does not deal with curled film well. If the film is curled it will prevent... Show More

My sons gave me a scanner for retirement and after scanning family pictures from 1860's (that' correct--I found pictures from the mid-1860's) to 1950's it wore out and I needed a new scanner. The 1960's to late 1990's are primarily 33mm slides and some old box camera pictures. Then digital pictures took over in 1999 with the birth of a grandson. THe new Perfection V600 is great. I love this scanner! I did a lot of research before choosing it, and it more than exceeded my expectations. My main purpose is to scan boxes of old family photos black&white and color prints dating back to the 1920s. The scanner is easy to use, and the scanning time is faster than I expected. The Epson software is also easy to use. Full Auto Mode gives good basic results. But you can improve the quality considerably by using the Home and Professi... Show More

Great scanner at a great price

Nov 20, 2010

I bought the Epson Perfection V600 scanner because a Linux driver was available, it scans slides and negatives and has an infrared channel for cleaning minor surface spots. That latter is important to me since I have a number of 30-40 year-old slides that have some dust and some mold spots.
