Fiio X1 slow, has minimal capabilities, and bugs.

Apr 4, 2018

Background I have a large music collection. I have transferred all my CDs to my computer and they take up about 100GB. I had an iPod Classic (160) for many years, and I was very happy with it, but it was stolen. Since it is discontinued, I started looking for alternatives: MP3 players, than can handle a large music collection, and that are affordable. The Fiio X1 got good reviews, and it seemed to be in a good price. I bought mine around August,... Show More

Don't bother with this device...

Jan 20, 2017

I really had high hopes for this player having read some pretty decent reviews on B&H's and other websites but, upon using it, I can relay the following: The Good: -It is really well made and fits nicely in one's hand. -With a 128 gb micro sd card, it can store a lot of music...even in FLAC format. -You would be hard-pressed to find a music player of any kind for this price. The Not-So-Good: -Even after upgrading to the latest software version, t... Show More

Fiio X1 Gen2 vs original

Feb 13, 2017

Having both the first generation and second generation units, I have split feelings about the players. The original sounded really good, but the interface was SLOOOOOW! It could take an entire song to navigate to a specific song by another artist or even to change genres. It's fine if you're just doing random play all day. Gen 2 has a much faster OS and is comparable to several other players I own (my Zune is still the speed champ) I really appre... Show More

Second FiiO X1 Purchase

Mar 10, 2017

About three-years ago, my iPod classic bit the dust. I bought an X1 (Gen 1) to replace it and loved it. The only real problem I had was that dust got inside the wheel mechanism and eventually started to give me problems. I just replaced that one with a Gen 2 and it has a touch wheel like the old iPod classic, so I'm thrilled. I may eventually use the Bluetooth feature, but it wasn't a selling point for me. I don't have wireless headphones because... Show More

Worth All I Paid

May 23, 2017

I had the FIIO M1 player which is much more compact and can take a 64GB full of music but had a problem that can only go with a ear/head phone was annoyed to pick up phone calls, bought this model because of Bluetooth and it works good just sometimes it shakes when I'm using my phone together with the Music Player. I'm buying this particular company because they are making a JUST MUSIC player with no video radio etc, which makes it not tempting f... Show More

Worth the money. Enjoy it.

Aug 30, 2017

I will e brief. I use Koss porta pro headphones. I only play mp3 and some Flac from cd. Have used a 30gb Zune and the Creative labs zen sleek photo previous to this device with the same headphones. I will only make comments on the sound. The unit has a learning curve, no biggie. The Fiio x1 II is a good unit. The sound is clear with enough volume to satisfy anyone. High end to base is great sounding and clear, however there isn't much punch to th... Show More

Excellente'!

Jun 6, 2017

I would (and did) buy this little FiiO over another iPod. What more is there to say. It is not without it's faults but they are few now and any that crop up will doubtless be dealt with by FiiO via firmware updates. And when you actually think (not feeeeeeeeeeeeeel) about that aspect of ownership, that is what is needed. Build quality is very, very good. Nothing to be ashamed of. How does it sound? It doesn't. If you want to listen to your music ... Show More

SLOW, SLOW, SLOW - Cannot handle many files

Aug 28, 2018

Although, this device claims to work with microSD cards upto 256GB, I found it could not handle 100GB of files (under half-full) without lag times of 60+ seconds every time an option was selected eg. play, skip, browse. I bought this device, hoping it would be a cheaper option to replace a very old 120GB ipod. I needed more storage and hoped to play my collection of FLAC files... It was impossible to operate when reading 100-200GB of music f... Show More

Quality sound, clunky interface

Aug 23, 2017

I bought this for my daughter to replace her ancient hand-me-down iPod Nano, and the sound quality is very good. The interface leaves a lot to be desired, mainly due to the extremely sensitive scroll wheel and chunky font. Be sure you buy a micro SD card because the unit has zero built-in memory. That could have been clearer in the description. Overall, I am satisfied with the purchase, especially considering Apple discontinued the iPod Nano a we... Show More

decent player with bluetooth and a good battery life

May 29, 2017

The touchwheel is too sensitive and seems gimmicky. Better to just have a conventional cursor/arrow control. Battery life is decent. Was able to connect it to 3 out of 3 bluetooth devices with no trouble. Will not play from subfolders, but most players wont do this. Connects as a standard USB flash device with a drive letter, as all players SHOULD.The splash screen is classic cheap Chinese and says: Born for Music and Happy...LOL. If you need bluetooth, this is one of the best on the market, for those of us who still want a dedicated MP3 player.

Stay Away From Fiio

Oct 1, 2019

I purchased this device around May. I only used about 3 times. After it played for about 10 minutes, it would freeze and squeal loudly. I had to wait until the battery died to get it to stop. Restarting it seemed to do the trick. Every time after that it would let out the loud squeal though after only a few minutes of play. I kept it too long past their return period. Fiio only has an email for contact. After back and forth emails and trying to fix the problem, I had to send it in. Sent it in about two weeks ago, waiting on a response.

Fiio X1 (Gen 2) is the player i was looking for!

Jan 18, 2017

after using it 2 weeks i can say it loud in clear, this is the player i was looking for! nice sleek cool and easy to use design both inside and outside. great sound quality, decent battery life, good bluetooth connection, i just love it! had an issue that screen used to go black when i constantly switched songs with long paths to it only way out was to reboot, solved after first time updating library, overall its a great product, would recommend for every one!

I would recommend only if your budget is $100

Feb 16, 2017

I use the the player its easy and simple to use. The touch wheel can be a little sensitive but there are other navigation controls. Startup time after shutdown is like 15 seconds. Audio quality is better than you'd expect for 100 dollars. There are some flaws with it but they are so minor that you would only get mad if you wanted it to be perfect. The blue-tooth connection works pretty flawlessly i dont think it works on 2.0 you have to do research for that.

Good machine for the price. One big flaw

Nov 28, 2016

Good MP3 player. No issues with quality or general functionality. One drawback. the Bluetooth won't sync with the car because there is no way to verify the sync code the car system sets. The Fiio sync code must be 0000 or 8888. My Ford Sync code generates a new code every time. So I can't use the Fiio for what I wanted it for most... playing my library in the car. Works well with other Bluetooth players that don't require a code.

Versatile, but . . . still learning how to use.

Feb 8, 2017

After my iPod died, I shopped around for a cheap and cheerful little music player. This certainly looks like it does the trick, but after having it for a couple weeks, I'm still trying to figure out how to maximize its efficiency. Searching for the album I want to play is an undertaking. Probably user error, but it's not super intuitive, hence the 4 stars and not 5.

Software Fix

Dec 27, 2018

This unit replaced my first generation X1 which stopped responding. It is very similar to the original, but seems to have fixed the irksome software bug in which letters with diacritic marks, as in the Spanish name Cabezn , would be partially respelled using Chinese hierogyphs, making them unfindable on the SD card.

FiiO X1 has some good features but could use improvement

Mar 16, 2018

The instructions that come with it aren't thorough. It takes some getting used to it. My chip contains approximately 5000 songs. I remove the chip and add songs to it and every time I put the chip back into the FiiO X1 it has to upload all of the songs again and it does so, so painstakingly slow!

nice size

Sep 27, 2017

It's nice and compact. Have to read the manual I uploaded from their website to learn more. I like it but the sound is to weak. Even being connected to external speakers it needs to be louder. I used this mainly for bird and owl calls, but it the sound is not strong enough.

Thats pretty much it. Why are the higher models the only one with internal storage? I hate that i have to download onto an SD Card to put in. Kind of defeats the purpose of the Hi-Res Audio, Make sure you buy a good SD Card
