Drama Class

Aug 16, 2015

Have become a Fuji Believer in recent years. I use this lens more than I thought I would when I placed it in my cart. My aim in getting it was to get a lightweight wide angle that would help introduce more dramatic flair into my work. To that end, I carry it daily and use it to shoot mostly Street Photography and Cityscapes. As photographers we spend, some times more than we should. Every once in awhile we find an indispensable gem of gear, one t... Show More

It is a keeper

Jul 8, 2016

I purchased my first Fujifilm XF14mm f2.8 R just before going on a trip to Israel. It has a magnificent wide view, equivalent to 21 mm in 35 mm format using a 1.5 multiplication factor. It has a metal body that is solidly built and is well balanced on my Fujifilm X-E2 camera. I knew I would put it to good use when taking pictures of the ruins and topography of the land. I was very impressed and happy with it until it stopped focusing in the heat ... Show More

Great Rendering Personality...Visually Interesting

Jun 12, 2019

From the perspective of owning at least 12 Fuji XF lenses, I can say there are no bad ones in the lineup. I line them up in three categories...lenses that do a great job with no particular weakness(ie, kit lens, 35/2, etc,. Then there are lenses that are tack sharp...80 macro, 60 macro, 90/2, 50/2, etc. Then there are lenses that are visually interesting...35/1.4, 23/1.4, the 16/1.4, and the lens in consideration...the XF14/2.8. Impressive

Mar 13, 2014

I recently purchased the X-Pro-1 with the 55 1.4 glass; and while I am hugely impressed with that lens, I made a mistake in buying it since my passions are landscape and architechure. I prefer wide to ultra wide for those areas. I ran the lens through a series of test shots to insure I didn't receive a lemon. Over a course of about 15 shots of fixed horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines on a white fence, I was unable to detect any barrel or pin... Show More

High optical quality and low distortion

Mar 11, 2013

Optical quality - very sharp wide open, both center and corners. Only need to stop down the aperture for increasing depth of field. Distortion is almost not noticeable at any aperture value which is very good for architectural shots. CA is very well controlled. Colors are different and seems to be not as good as the Canon DSLR that I am used to, but it could be the camera and not the lens itself. Moreover, color preference is very subjective. Ope... 14mm f2.8 vs 10-24 f4

Jan 12, 2015

Some may choose to have both the 14mm and 10-24mm lenses in their X-mount kit, but for me, part of the beauty of the system is the compact size, simplicity, and the relatively light weight. I used both of these lenses for a while and tested them side-by-side and the results are not a big surprise to those who have researched these two lenses. In my experience the 14mm is a little sharper through the f4-8 range. The versatile 10-24mm is still exce... Show More

Fuji Ultra wide.....Ultra good

Feb 14, 2013

I use the lens as an advanced amateur. This lens is my second Fujinon lens for for my X-Pro, my other lens is the 60mm F2.4. I fell as if the 14MM F2.8 Fujinon is a top level lens. The color and sharpness are excellent. The correction is harder for me to determine. The correction for lens part of the procees. I see nothing on the raw data that looks like pincush nor barreling. The lens looks as sharp as my 60mm F2.4 and it very sharp. Even my thr... Show More

Great quality with one drawback

Feb 10, 2013

I own all 3 other fuji primes and used them extensively. The closest to the 14mm is the 18mm so comparisons are fair. The 18mm focuses a little faster than this 14mm. But more importantly, the 14mm has a lot of trouble focusing in low light situations that the 18mm is still able to handle. I find this to be the more troubling since I shoot a lot of low light work professionally. Also, it cannot lock focus or at best, has a difficult time locking ... Show More

Exactly what I wanted

Jun 20, 2016

I love this little lens. It's smaller than I expected, and takes beautiful photos. The 21mm (35 mm equivalent) is a great focal length for getting more in the shot. I am even enjoying using it for portraiture (as long as the people are in the middle third to avoid the edge distortion.) As with all of my Fuji lenses, the build is solid and everything works just as I'm used to. The push-lock on the focus ring is a first for me, and I love it! For t... Show More

Really an outstanding lens

Jul 5, 2016

Before digital, I frequently used Leica rangefinders in addition to Nikon, then Canon, SLRs. While I used the 35mm and 50mm Summicrons extensively, the 21mm was the other lens I used most often. This 3-lens outfit served me well for years and I only sold that equipment when the ease and quality of digital photography prevailed--along with being able to sell the Leica equipment for considerably more than I had paid for it. Fast forward to today an... Show More

It's a YES

Aug 13, 2016

I initially bought the XT-1 camera with a 18-135 zoom lens because, as a very happy owner of the Fuji X100s, I felt the need for a longer, more versatile lens that would get me where I needed when zooming with my feet was impossible. Having just been shooting in the Highlands of Scotland, the 23mm lens of the X100s felt limiting--zooming with my feet would have meant falling off cliffs! I'm v ry happy with the 18-135 but needed/wanted a wider ang... Show More

A spectacular and affordable lens.

Feb 20, 2013

The 14mm f2.8 XF on my XE-1 is a very serious photographic tool. Like the XF 35mm f1.4. it is tack sharp and when used properly is only limited by the excellent sensor on the camera. In comparing the results with my M9 and several asph Leica lenses, it is obvious the Fuji combo is superior. I know this is heresy to some , but I have been shooting Leica for 50+ years, and I cannot ignore the dimension that Fuji XF line has added to my photography.... Show More

Into the Great Wide Open

This is my second lens for my X-Pro1, The first being the 18-55. It's also the first prime I've bought since going digital. The 18-55 is a magnificent piece of glass and so far I'd say the 14mm is going to be the same. Maybe even better. It is different enough that it will take some getting used to. The sliding manual focus on/off for instance. The auto focus seems much faster than the zoom and at 2.8 it has pretty good bokeh if focused at about ... Show More

Small, fast focus, lightweight

May 24, 2016

Was considering the 14mm, 16mm f/1.4, and the 10-24mm f/4. Went to B&H store and tried them all and found this to be a lot smaller than the 16mm and 10-24mm. I really wanted to 1.4 aperture of the 16mm, but given its larger physical size and double the weight (as well as the 10-24mm), I ended up choosing the 14mm based on portability. That is mostly why I switched to Fuji system in the first place! The 14mm has a slightly wider field of view than... Show More

I was debating between the 18mm and 14mm. In the end I felt like 14mm was more versatile so decided to drop $$$. Now I have never owned or used the 18mm so I can't directly compare the two. But I can say this, 14mm is a fantastic lens with a lot of character and soul. Its very sharp wide open, but I prefer to shoot at f/4.0 which gives my enough DOF to shoot my ever-moving kids. The color, saturation and contrast produced is lovely. The lens feel... Show More

Wow what a lens!

Dec 10, 2018

This is one of my favorite lenses in the Fuji lineup. For a decently fast wide it sports an excellent performance with not much to complain about. Good: Very sharp across the frame at most apertures and always sharp in the center. Contrast - while not up to the level of excellence that some of Fujis other primes reach, is still great. AF is quick enough. Build quality is excellent and size is just right. Little-to-no distortion is quite a featur... Show More

This is an initial review; hope to be able to edit in the future. First impression - very clear and crisp pictures. I've never used a wide angle before, so I'm getting used to composition. I've included 2 images I took the first time out with this lens. I did not use the hood. I use it with the X-E1. So far I'm happy. For these images I shot in RAW, used Aperture to export as JPEG, only did minor adjustment to the images. One image I shot into th... Show More

This is a wonderful lens that I think gets overlooked sometimes in the Fuji lineup. Very small and compact considering the 2.8 speed; it fits in well aesthetically with the 35 1.4. Some of the other Fuji XF lenses stray a little too far from the smaller is better mantra, but not this one. Apart from that, it's very sharp, has very little distortion, and the focal length equivalent of 21mm gives you (one of) the classic landscape perspectives. The... Show More

Fantastic optics...Flawed controls

Apr 15, 2014

The Fuji 14mm is one superb piece of glass. I would have given it 5 stars, but the 'loose goose' aperture ring is just terrible. Fuji should have known better than to issue a lens with such a poor design. The focus scale is also a pain to deal with. But I guess we should be grateful for Fuji making an attempt with a distance scale and manual focus ability. The trend is to 'dummy down' the lenses and not have any manual controls on the barrel. Sharp and wide

Apr 7, 2014

To find this lens 5 stars good, you have to be looking for this kind of lens. This is much larger than the pancake primes in the Fuji lens lineup - it's almost the size of the 18-55 kit zoom. It's also a very wide angle, so you will get stretching distortion near the corners. In exchange for the largeish size, however, you get some of the sharpest optics in the Fuji lineup. Even straight into the sun, contrast and colors remain very good. It also... Show More

Dec 20, 2014

i held off from purchasing this otherwise fine lens because of all the reviews commenting on the loose aperture ring. I decided against the Zeiss lens because of the rubber aperture ring and the climate in Thailand would not be kind to it. Right from the get go I missed a few shots because the aperture ring slipped from 'A' to f/22. Best advice I can give is constantly check the aperture and hold it there! Good size and weight. Love the ability to move the focus ring to enable or disable AF. Best feature is the distance scale. It was strange at first to have on the left hand side, but I got used to it. Good build quality. I agree with other reviews complaining about the looseness of the aperture ring. Its a bit too easy to bump for my taste, but in all practicality this may have happened once while shooting. Its expensive, but its a great lens and ... Show More

Plenty fast, great bokeh

Jun 28, 2015

For those of you trying to decide between the 14mm f/2.8 and the new 16mm f/1.4 I say this: When I reach for an Ultra-Wide, I'm not going for super buttery background blur. I'm also not particularly interested in shooting Ultra-Wide portraits. This lens balances minimal distortion with with lots of great DRAMA, if positioned carefully. f/2.8 is plenty fast for most applications, and again, when I'm shooting wide I'm generally shooting at f/5.6 - ...
