Open AC-1441 Excellent Portable Tripod
I bought the AC-1441 from B&H a few weeks ago because I wanted solid but portable support for my Nikon D750 that I bought from them. The attached photograph shows a typical setup on a hike (New York City is in the background from Montclair). The D750 is on the Oben and a Lowepro 15L carries both. The question readers will have is, What lens?' I'm using the 24-120 zoom, and the Oben easily accommodates it. If you are shooting with a big lens such ... Show More

Better Than I Expected
I got this tripod with the 7d mark ii as an B&H EDU deal. I had very low expectations, already owning a Gitzo carbon fiber tripod with no center column. I was impressed with some of the features at this price point. The carrying bag is a nice extra and very nicely made for the price, including a shoulder strap. I recently took it with me on a trip to Milwaukee and took some night shots of the city. I couldn't fit my other tripod in my bag and it ... Show More

Works for me with Sigma 150-600 Sport
I read the reviews. When it arrived first thing I did was check the raised center column. It wobbled. I removed the column and ran the tightener in and out (tight and loose) until it threaded smoothly to each end. You can look down the opening and watch the mechanism. Mine was binding as it closed even without the column. I worked it until it closed smoothly. When I replaced the center column it was able to tighten properly. Seems it needs to be ... Show More

Outstanding Quality and Performance
The capacity of this head is greater that I currently need. I figured that purchasing this head is like a man purchasing a new pair of pants as he enters middle age. You get 1 size bigger because you will grow into them shortly. Themanufacture of the head is flawless. I am veryparticular about fit and finish and was unable to find any flaws in this example. Surprise / Surprise it actually came with instructions and they made sense. The operation ... Show More

Built like a tank-great value!
I purchased the BC-166 ball head to replace an older, lighter-weight ball head on my heavy tripod in the studio. I wanted a ball head that would hold a lot of weight, but be easy to adjust. The Oben really fits the bill. I don't think I will ever exceed the 66 pound capacity of this head; but that much capacity makes for rock-steady locked-down performance. The controls are simple to set up and use, it stays put where you point it, with any combi... Show More

Perfect travel tripod
An impressively light and well-made tripod. Perfect for traveling with small cameras. Took this hiking the other weekend and it never weighed me down or got in the way. This tripod is truly feature-packed and I've come to appreciate each little detail for the versatility they lend me. Shooting stills, video, macro shots, pans- the craftsmanship and little details like the integrated bubble levels and notches on each adjustment knob makes fine tun... Show More

PERFECT BALL HEAD FOR FUJI X-T-10!
After years of using DSLR's I recently decided to migrate to a mirror-less camera system. After extensive research I purchased a Fujifilm X-T10, which is simply a joy to use! I wanted a small ball head and after a lot of research, I opted for one from Oben. Initially I purchased the Oben BE-108 but found it to be to small on my Vanguard Alta Pro 263AT. I returned it and ordered the BE-117 which is the perfect size ball head for the Fuji X-T10! I ... Show More

Overall impressive, though instructions could use work
I bought this tripod with a different head attachment on it probably 6ish years ago, and its been performing flawlessly. Was a no-brainer to buy the same unit when I needed one. Overall very solid, the dual mode feet are a nice touch. Despite being fairly light it doesnt feel unsubstantial. Whats holding me back from the fifth star is are the instructions. Oben needs to update their illustration and instructions in discussing installation of t... Show More

Terrible mechanical design
When designing this tripod they neglected to add proper end stops to prevent the legs from falling out when extending them. Even worse, when a leg does pop out (and it will), you get a yard sale of parts. There are two plastic shims that sandwich the leg section and if the leg comes out, these two pieces go flying. Imagine having hiked 5 miles with 4000+ vertical feet of climbing, and then, the very piece of equipment you are depending on to get ... Show More

Perfect value for the price
For Christmas I was thrilled to receive a Platypod Ultra! I knew in advance that I was getting the Platypod, so I stared my ball head search in mid-December on B&H. After narrowing down the field, I started watching a few video reviews, and I finally decided on theOben BC-126. It seemed to be the perfect ball head for the price. It had everything I needed: - 26.4 lb Load Capacity - Arca-Type Compatible Quick Release - Tension Control - Separate ... Show More

Better Than Expected
Purchased this ball head to replace the pistol-grip head on my Sunpak UltraPRO 423, which had begun to slip when tilted. I was immediately impressed with the quality of construction and overall ease of operation. The pan operation is very smooth and the rotation scale is a nice feature. The ball head requires a bit of torque to lock it firmly into position, however, there is no slippage, which is exactly what I was looking for in a replacement tr... Show More

My first carbon fiber tripod
I'm a Gitzo guy but I just couldn't spend that kind of money on a carbon fiber tripod when I have a metal Gitzo that works just fine although heavy. I looked at the CT-2391 because it has less joints to flex but again, the cost kept me from pulling the trigger. Then B&H put the CT-2491 on sale at a considerable discount and I jumped on it. I removed the center post for the low angle option.Everything is very solid even when the legs are fully ext... Show More

THE HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD
Unlike virtually ALL other contenders (comperable makes/models; e.g., compare the Gitzo GT1542T - B&H # GIGT1542T), in this corner stands the Oben CT-2491 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs, which I purchased because these sticks: (1) hold more than 10x their weight (3.5 lbs vs. 39.6 lbs); (2) stand just over 6' tall (72.5 inches, and approximately 77.5 with the head attached); and, (3) are less expensive than the other guys. Useful, compact ballhead
I bought this to put on my travek tripod. I needed one with an arca-type mounting. I actually had to read the instructions to follow how to set the tension on the knob that you use to lock the camera into position. My Manfrotto has a separate knob for that so this suprised me a bit. Once I figured it out it easily became secong nature right away. Just a very short learning curve. Great Head couple quirks
The head can handle the weight with ease and seems quality. Comes with a 1/4 thread adaptor and Allan wrench. The large tighteners are nice to function. Especially the tightener on the ball. You can release it slightly and move to make slight adjustments rather than having it go completely loose and making adjustments seem so drastic like a lot of ball heads do. But the quirk is that sometimes the large tighteners get in the way of each other m... Show More

What A Difference!
I purchased this ball head based on reviews on the B&H site and YouTube. It was part of my decision to purchase tripod legs and a ball head to see what I've been missing in my years of using a series of inexpensive all-in-one tripods. at this point, after two sessions of photography, I can already see what I've been missing - sturdiness and simplicity. The ball head makes adjustments in sighting and aiming a breeze. I've got a EOS 40D and in use ... Show More

Solid and well finished for my D7100 w/ 18-200 lense
I was really impressed by the build, finish, and features of this tripod. It holds my D7100 with an 18-200 lens well in landscape orientation. I took two stars off which should be taken off all tripods in this class according to my understanding after talking to B&H tech for half hour. This flaw has to do with orienting the camera 90-deg to one side for portrait orientation. At this orientation, only the friction between the base of the camera an... Show More

A Great Value
I wanted a compact, lightweight tripod that would support my various cameras (full frame DSLR with lightweight primes, Rolleiflex, and my 4x5 Crown Graphic). The 4x5 is pushing the threshold for sure but it seems steady enough for my needs. It's incredibly light. It's smaller than I expected, too. The twisting leg locks are so nice in comparison to my other tripod's flip locks that really hurt my fingers. Operation is smooth and the exterior fit a... Show More

Arrived not fully functional
I took it out of the box and set it up. It all looked solid and great, accept one of the retractable feet that give stability to the legs wouldn't engage because the twist that engages it was stripped or incompletely installed. B and H was great about a return. I decided to buy a different tripod because there are enough reviews about Oben's tripods have leg problems. this is disappointing to me, as I loved my aluminum Oben. But, quality control ... This is the most versatile tripod I have ever used - I couldn't recommend it anymore! Great reach, hidden spiked feed, flip lock legs, light weight yet super durable and the an extremely low reach! Excellent value and quite smooth after I got used to it.
I used this tripod for a few weeks, several hundred sittings. There are a few differences from the more expensive brand that I have used for years. This was after liking the Oben monopod that I got last summer. After the first few hours I was thinking this would never work, but I persisted. I really wanted to like it. By the end of the day I was getting more comfortable. After a few weeks I do like it, a lot. It is lighter than the more expensive... Show More

Loving it.........
I use this 'pod with my Canon 5d3 and various lenses ranging from the 16-35 to a 70-200. What I like aobut it is it's height--with the head--it's actually a bit too tall for me (at 6' 1-ish), but for me, I'd rather have it be too tall than too short. I also love it's weight. I also love the fact that it comes in a very nice case. What I'm less thrilled about is the twist lock legs. OTOH, the 'pod is .6 lbs. LIGHTER than the same unit with flip lo... Show More

Overall a nice tripod
Overall I found this to be a nice tripod. For the price, it is nice and stable, and I like the ability to lower the legs and have the camera beneath for macro shots. The legs are sturdy and easy to set. I was a little disappointed in two things, which results in the four stars instead of the five (I'd probably give a three and a half if I could). Just what I was looking for
I was looking for a reasonable ball head to use on multiple platforms; on top of a monopod using the 3/8 screw; on a Joby SLR flex pod using the 1/4 screw; and on a future mid-weight carbon travel tripod leg set. It needs to hold fairly lightweight - perhaps 3 lb max - mirrorless cameras and occasionally long (100-400 zoom) lens. The head seems very well made, the main ball control knob works really well, and I particularly appreciate the Arca-st... Show More
